Do we get any credit for beating Collingwood on their home ground without NN, Gaff and Shep or was it it just luck?
It was luck that the team we were 5 goals down to have a history for being grand final chokers....hence 'colliwobbles'.

We were a good side that found its mojo at the right time.

TBH, I don't really care who, what and why.
I really enjoyed it and still do.

Was recently voted as on of the best Grand Finals of all time.

That's good enough for me

What a strange game, first quarter was terrible, second and start of the third meh, last quarter and a half good (for us atm).

Positives

Darling was good for the second week in a row, works his ass off thats for sure.
Thought SPS was good one of the few that looked like he was having a dip all game.
Wests second half
Kelly I thought tried hard, had a few wtf moments but was always having a crack.
Thought Jamo and Williams competed well.
Apart from getting reamed out of the middle in the second quarter our clearance work was good.
Tackling pressure.
Few contests in the last when JD, Clark and Waterman showed some physicality
Redden was ok i thought. Gaff tried but has pretty much 0 influence.

Negatives:

JK not even a shadow of his former self. Should hang them up, been terrific but its sad seeing him like this. I wanna remember the rampaging JK.
H Edwards has gone backwards at a rate of knots.
Was Foley still concussed? Fumbly, crap disposal.
Witherden, Duggan terrible
Cripps just piss off.
What a shambles the first quarter was, no pressure no work rate (was sick of seeing us greatly outnumbered at every single contest)
Naishs first effort off the subs bench was weak as water.
Winders game , and the to rub salt in the wound his injury.
Thiught TB was poor and some of his efforts, as the senior defender, were pissweak.

Who did you have in mind? Hough played wing. Clark and West had time in the midfield (not young but rookies). XON has palyed midfield.
Clark, West and SPS should be getting the majority of the midfield minutes if you actually want to work out which players can cut it.

I'd be surprised if West and Clark had more than 10 in total. This isn't development. Prioritise their midfield time over shuey, Kelly, Redden, gaff

Thought Waterman was unremarkable and forgettable, but that big negative spike in the final term is a weird one. If anything I’d expect a massive negative spike for his hilarious double turnover soccer off the ground attempt in the third.

I assume he gave away some frees late? Didn’t seem to be nearly that bad, albeit very vanilla and forgettable.

TB held up admirably in a ridiculously inundated backline at times, but dunno about career best.
I seem to remember Barrass losing more contests than he won. Big fan but thought he got well beaten yesterday.

we need stats not surprises, it looked far more to me. Hough on the wing is development. West was buggered from all the in and under scrapping. Rotations are important to performance and development.

Gaff might have had a bit of it but cannot recall too many times he made the opposition hurt. Story of Gaffys career for mine.
Kicked a goal and made at least two tackles that were called holding the ball. I've been pretty despondent over his performance this season, but he was good yesterday.

Positive - Jack Darling.

If it wasn’t for his efforts in the first half we would’ve definitely lost by 10+ goals and created a bit of unwanted history along the way.

Other positives - Gaff turned it around in the second half and looked dangerous for us for the first time this season
SPS, Redden, Shuey, Clark, West, Barrass, Hurn all showed a lot of fight and helped to make it a contest for the last 3/4 of the game.

SPS is way too skilled to be put to pasture on a flank. I always thought he was as hard as a marshmallow but he’s proving me very wrong at the moment.

So many missed opportunities in front of goal. Probably 4 out on the full plus Kennedys dropped mark means we should’ve been a bit closer to them in the end.

Negatives - That 1st quarter was atrocious and it’s a common theme for us this year. After the bye I’m expecting to be battling it out for 4 quarters. I don’t mind losing, but it’s not acceptable to be getting blown away like we have seen so far.

I don't think talking about "credits in the bank" is appropriate at this point. We had 24 players to pick from and we used 23.

It's hard to make significant changes when that's the availability.
Sure, but it’s a pattern of selection that’s been apparent for 3.5 years now. Is anybody convinced Simpson will deviate from this approach? He seems to speak a lot about the importance of the senior players. You know, the ones who haven’t done anything since the GF.

At what point do they find themselves on the outer?

Hopefully we'll have another 2017-style list clean out, a decent run of injuries, and an injection of yoof:

Paddy Brophy (ret)
Sam Butler (ret)
Jonathan Giles (ret)
Tom Gorter (del)
Josh Hill (del)
Tom Lamb (del)
Sam Mitchell (ret)
Drew Petrie (ret)
Matt Priddis (ret)

Jordan Snadden (del)
Simon Tunbridge (del)
Sharrod Wellingham (del)

Bolded those who were Best 22 at the time. There were 6  This year I couldn't tell you who our Best 22 would be given the injuries, whoever runs out each week is pretty much the best 22 available, so I'm not sure we'll see a similar injection of yoof like Ryan, Rioli, Venables, Cole, Allen and Waterman next year (Chesser, Culley, Pick One...), but a deep list cut is needed.

I agree to an extent.

But we had consecutive 5th(?) finishes after the GF and at the bye last year looked on track for September. I would like to think in there was the chance to drop players this year, with the results we've been having, they would be dropped.

Take Cripps for example. I really want him dropped. But Rioli, Ryan, Petch, JJ, and now Winder are all unavailable. He could be 6th in line and can't really be dropped right now.

There was posts yesterday about HEdwards too. Without Gov, who can replace him?

The consecutive 5th finishes and then 9th last year were all abject failures in my opinion. Players should have been held to account for them much earlier.

You’re right, the true test of Simpson will be when most players are available. Then we’ll see the direction (or lack thereof) he has for this team.

He's a very good defender who had a below average game.
not one on one, or against big talls and not accountable, he kicks with a dead foot for some reason - great spoiling over the pack with some high marks. He certainly isn't an onfield leader - which FB needs to be.
I think he is one of many West Coast players that we emotionally engage with and like a lot, but over rate horribly
