Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Brisbane

Negative is the Florenca situation.

Bloke comes in as a covid top up and shows he’s well and truly up to the level but is 24 going on 25 so he’s probably borderline in getting picked up on a formal AFL list spot.

Would have lived a lifelong dream playing a single AFL game but gotta feel sorry for him that he’s probably at long odds to make a career as an AFL player.

Thought he was impressive tight in the clinches. Couple of errors by foot but that’s to be expected from a WAFL player moving up a considerable level to AFL.

If we managed to get a mid season draft pick, I wouldn't be disappointed if we used it on him.

Florenca was ranked:

#1 for West Coast for contested possessions with 13 (#2 on the ground behind Lachie Neale)
#1 for West Coast for Tackles with 7 (Equal with Jamaine)
#3 for West Coast for Ranking Points 102 (behind Hurn and Gov)

Rounding out his 19 disposal, 13 contested, 7 tackle, 4 clearance game, was that he only played 65% TOG (The lowest of any Eagle other than the subs)

Seriously. What does this tell you about Kelly? Who was pretty invisible for the first half, before getting involved more after half time. Or any of our other senior mids that are constantly letting us down by not being competitive?

Shuey hasn't cracked 13 CP's in any game he's played in 2022. Neither has Kelly. Neither has Yeo. Neither has Redden.

The fact a part time footballer/carpenter can come into the side with a couple days notice, and still outshine our established midfielders on hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, before getting parked on the bench. By rights he shouldn't be fit to lace their boots.

Ruckmen take years to develop unless they’re absolute freaks like NN or Luke jackson . They’re very much a long term investment.

I like what I saw in Jamo, now that he actually got a gig in his preferred position. I wouldn’t be writing off Bailey Williams either, way too early.

Having said that I don’t expect either of them to be a gun first ruck but will be solid back ups .

As far as worthless stats go, DT points are about as worthless as you can get.

For all their knocks, you're better off citing the CD ranking points for the game as it actually takes impact on the result and DE% etc etc into account.

Jamieson could get the ball 15 times and kick it straight to the opposition, or out of bounds for that matter, and DT just counts his kicks.

It's a fair point though.

Jamieson finished with

12 disposals - Williams and Strnadica career high is 11
13 hitouts - Strnadica career High is 10, Williams 17
5 Tackles - Williams 4, Strnadica 3
3 Clearances - Williams 3, Strnadica 4
4 Marks - Williams 5, Strnadica 3
72 ranking points - Williams 78, Strnadica 76.

Certainly hasn't disgraced himself in his second outing compared to the alternatives, and this after myself and many others had written him off.

Looks more a more natural footballer than Williams, who might be a better athlete with a bigger jump, but gets lost and is invisible for long periods.

Are either of the three actually going to be getting there hands to the ball in a ruck contest? No, they aren't a viable long term option replacing Naitnaui.

Might as well give him a few more games though. He attended 50 ruck contests last night. Edwards had 32..... for Zero hitouts.
After last night I think we need to see more of CJ to understand whether or not he might be a viable long-term ruck replacement.

I think we have Brandered (trademark pending) his development. Playing back, a little forward etc, but less on-ball time.

He hasn't been great playing back (WAFL and obviously 1 x AFL), forward he's average but acceptable for a resting ruck, but he was decent on-ball.

The challenge now is he needs 2 competing things, strength/weight and fitness.

Bulking him up (not Nic style, but a little) will significantly improve his competitiveness.

Gday fellas, first time poster long time listener here. Finally bit the bullet and signed up.

Even though it was mess and hard to watch...again. it was more enjoyable being able to stomach another belting but with new faces in the team.....florenca, jamieson etc.

Particularly florenca....his natural instinct to throw himself in and get the contested ball and get a handpass out is what we've been lacking for a few years now. Continued watching the game just to see more of that.

I would love to pick him up with a late pick as depth just to have more players like him around. Regardless of his age.

Jarmaine Jones. Stop dropping this kid. Shows he loves to compete and play. Goes hard.

Negatives- first season of trying to implement a new game style and it shows. Every week from absolute beltings.

We are utterly lamentable.

The club did everything to try and shut the game down, bogging the stoppages and parking the bus behind the ball, completely sacrificing any notion of attacking intent.

The wet weather worked to our favour, providing a heavy, slippery track not conducive for scoring and the opponents were on a night where they were far removed from their best.

Yet we were still smashed by 75 points.

Tonight's score of 30 is the equal 5th lowest in the history of the club.

2022 now ranks as the first time the club has had multiple matches with a score of less than 35 points in the same season.

Those sub-35 point scoring matches have also occurred in two of the last three weeks.

Over the last four weeks the Eagles have averaged just 44 points in total and lost by an average margin of 83 points.

We look unfit, slow and panicked in possession in every single position on the ground.

Just disheartening to see how rapidly and calamitously the fall over the cliff edge has been.
We were undone by a few simple errors though.

2 fumbles that I remember (there may have been more) where we were out and probably heading forward for a goal, fumble and turnover and Brisbane goaled instead.

At least 1 clear htb in front of our goal not paid.

Our goal kicking could have been better

Wtf is with our defenders giving guys (like Cameron, but not limited to him) 5+ metres of space when the ball is in a contested situation at half back. Seriously just man-up. 2 or 3 times quick kicks landed in their laps with no pressure on taking the mark, because our defenders were ball watching.

Considering what we put out the previous 3 weeks this loss was reasonable. OK in the contest, got the ball forward a bit, even owned territory at times, but really lacking class on the outside.

The next main issue is the game plan, it doesn't look to have changed enough to give us any chance.

Not much joy for you lot this year, but Jamieson looks a player.

Ordinarily, may not have found that out for a few years.
I think he may well have been delisted at season end. After 'developing' at full back in the WAFL.

Even his previous game he didn't see any ruck time.

But, and this may come as a shock to no-one on this board, players play better in the position they have played at through juniors (in most cases).

This is the sort of misleading rubbish we always get on BF. Florenca is a cabinet maker not a carpenter. I agree with everything else. Just as it is sad to see our listed players perform well below the better WAFL players when playing for the Beagles.

Negative losing the tackle count by double digits. Barass Duggan Naish JK 0 tackles.
Positive The intent and endeavour was there. Jones 7 tackles, Florenca 7 tackles Redden 6 Kelly & Jamieson 5
this and contested possessions were the olny stats i was taking note of, tackling early was great, dropped off completely after quarter time

+ve: geniuses on here who've been writing off a 21 year old ruck who's had no opportunity to show his wares have been shut down pretty immensely

I for one have always liked what I saw In Jamieson, but rather thought he would develop into a good key forward in time. I am rapped for him.

Exactly, I think the majority of this board had him pegged for delisting at seasons end.

He was still given a bit of a lesson by the Big O and Fort but he certainly wasn’t any worse than Strnadica or even Williams have been so far in Naitanui’s absence. Most impressive was his willingness to do the follow up work when the ball hit the ground in terms of tackling and dishing out handballs.

Worth sticking with him for the rest of the season I reckon. As back up for Nic when/if he comes back.

Bailey Williams can earn his spot back through the WAFL. BW may in fact be used to spell JK later in the season as he’s likely more of a key forward than a pure ruckman but even that might be a stretch. Certainly hasn’t come on as the club would have hoped.

Duggan is pretty frustrating in my eyes. I like him, but I had the following question running through my mind last night.

What’s his role, exactly?

He’s not a great shut down defender who regularly quells elite small forwards.

He’s not a dashing rebounding defender.

He doesn’t rack up possessions.

He doesn’t relieve midfield players with minutes through the guts.

I feel like we’ve been saying the same thing with him for 5 odd years now. He’ll end up in the middle and play well there. It isn’t happening, and all we’re left with is a bit of an inbetweener. Not a bad player, but one we really should be getting more out of.

Even his best games are basically solid efforts on a back flank. He’s a resource we need a lot more out of, and by this stage of his career he should be influencing results a lot more than he does.

He's always been a bit average. I think the best he can hope for is a solid HBF with a bit of a hard edge which is pretty much what he is now. He will never be a midfielder.

You should be getting at least the odd BOG match from your first round picks. Trade bait but unfortunately he’s in the age range we need to keep

Duggan is sort of like our 2022 Beau Waters/Sam Butler but not as dynamic as Beau and not as good rebounder as Buts

Yeah thats pretty bad. Youd think at worst the guys should all have decent tackle numbers.

On SM-G925I using BigFooty.com mobile app

Can't kick a score, can't stop a flow on of goals and can't tackle. The perfect recipe for a bottom of the ladder team.

Would like to see SPS attend more centre bounces, been impressed with him when in there. Of all the mids that attended centre bounces last night, he attended the least, despite having the highest rate of getting a centre clearance (4 attendances for 1 clearance). For reference, Kelly attended 21 of the total 24 centre bounces for a return of only 3 centre clearances. That's not to say he didn't have a role in handballing/blocking for the player getting the clearance though. Redden attended 18 for 2 clearances. I just can't see why you wouldn't persist with SPS in the middle more
