the plane could crash on the way home and we could get some sort of expansion draft in sympathy from the afl!! Full of heaps of draft picks and a choice of a player from each team in the league.

I thought Sylvia was good. Bell beat Ebert when he was on him. Stefan Martin showed good things. Morton is a classy mover - his disposal will get better. In fact our whole team can only get better. So I guess thats a positive.

hitch hiking would be a good idea, now just if we could get Ivan Milat or Bradley Jon Murdoch released for one night and let them roam adelaide looking for hitchhikers.

I am positive that we are Putrid!
I am positive that we need more mature players in the team for the next 2 seasons until the kids mature.
I am positive about the cricket season.....bring it on!
I am positive that we will get Picks 1&2 in next years draft.
I am positive that we need Rich before Watts,Cause I am positive that our midfield stinks..apologies to Junior.
Enough positives for you?

No. Just no.

Worthy of debate this. What good is Watts if NOBODY can deliver him the ball. Midfield is disgraceful, even with the injured players back. In truth we need them both & Warnock.

What good is Rich if he's got NOBODY to deliver the ball too?

It surprises me that many of you don't have much faith in a midfield that can include Buckley, Jones, Bartram, McLean, Morton, Dunn, Petterd, Grimes, Johnson, Green, Maric, Moloney, McDonald, Bruce and Valenti. There's more youth than veterans as well, and if he gets his shit together Sylvia can have a run in there too.

True Grimes isn't proven yet, nor is Maric but you can't help but feel they will be gems. Bartram has had a mighty shite season but we know what he's capable of and next season he'll be back to his best. Bookmark it

Good news, Richmond need to make up 353 points on Sydney to make the 8. They could be a chance the way we're going.

Conversely if WCE lost to Hawthorn by 70 today we only need to win and make up 71 points on them to avoid the spoon.

But then again I never was any good at math.

Fair comment............but.
When the ball spends the vast majority of the game between the arcs, you need players that can use the ball well hence my case for Rich.

It is hard enough for forwards when the ball is coming in well. One of the main reasons players in the forward line have been getting injured over the past few years. They are constantly been chasing clanger passes and hence the increase in collision injuries as they have been rarely been leading in straight lines.

If you watch Newton & Miller they are straight kicks so if we can get Rich this will help.

So using TJ as the benchmark passer with him scoring 100
score the rest of our midfield out of 100. If you honestly assess our midfield you will find that nobody will be within 20% of TJ.

You make a reasonable point BBG, but I feel its so much more difficult to find a quality KP forward than it is to find a quality midfielder. I don't think Melbourne has any real weapons up forward now, so Watts could be the man we need up there.

If I was to place my preferences on who we draft at #1 it would be as follows:

1. Watts
He could give Melbourne some form of a forward line in the future, and excellent KPF don't come along too often

2. Naitanui
I know he's risky, but as with anything 'high risk=high potential reward'

3. Rich
I like him as a player, he reminds me of Sylvia, but if Sylvia can get a full pre-season in and build up his fitness, then consequently enter the midfield, Rich won't be required. In addition, I feel we have the makings of a v. good midfield, even if it is somewhat injury prone

Is this same TJ who had a kicking efficiency of 70% last year? No wonder we're necked when that's who we were relying on.

One of the more interesting theories! True for Robbo I suppose, but not sure how well it holds up.

As for TJ being 100, Green would be at about 130 this year, Bruce 50, Wheatley 40, McDonald 75, Moloney 50, Morton 50 (will improve), Sylvia 50, Davey 80, Valenti 60, Buckley 60, Jones 50, McLean 200.

I don't have faith in a midfield that is slow, one dimensional and can't hit targets. The one positive from yesterday's game was Buckley's ability to extricate himself from a stoppage with some dash. Only Mclean, Maric, Green & Johnson I would categorise as good kicks. Moloney bombs and the others kick floaters that often set up their recipients to be spoiled, or miss the target completely. The only additions next year are a fit McLean who isn't quick and Grimes who will probably play off half back and Petterd. It surprises me that you have faith in players that have consigned us to the bottom of the ladder with precisely 3 wins. One of which was a fluke, one was playing against a team that didn't care about winning, and one against a flaky Brisbane. Yes I have little faith with good reason. We need a Ruckman, Key position players and speed. It is going to be very slow climb.

This is all sad but true. Our midfield isn't what we make it out to be. Our current midfield would have been mediocre (at best) 2 years ago. By that I mean not as good as the midfield we had back then. The game is so much faster than 2006 when we were playing well and the above post is correct about our lack of speed. Some times good disposal and positioning can make up for lack of speed but we don't even have that. My personal preference for the #1 pick is Watts (let's not kid ourselves we have to build all over the ground) as we have no forward structure or kpps at all, then jag the best midfielders we can with the next two picks. There seems to be a good spread of quality midfielders in this years draft.

if you look at the team for the whole year its been the forward line that has given us nothing the most of the time, midfield is easier to fix up, topline KPP are a must and we need 2 or 3

Grimes was picked in the centre yesterday for Sandy, don't know if he played there but was one of the best
