Positives/Negatives vs St Kilda

Negative -

Every moron in the gameday thread calling for Simpsons head. Seriously, stop that shit. Calls for him to be sacked, or comparing him to Worsfold is just downright stupidity. I get it.. I was upset that Bennell was the sub too, but reign it in and get some perspective.

Worsfold had years in the job, and this is the list he leaves Simmo with. Simmo's been in the job 9 months or something and he's inherited a midfield full of girls blouses, who aren't hard enough in the contest and constantly sook (Shuey, Gaff, Masten, Selwood)

Meanwhile, his most consistent player (Priddis) is so damn terrible at kicking the football that 80% of his possession's are handballs. Roll the dice on whether they hit a target or not.

Give him a minimum of 3 years at the helm before you start writing him off. After that you can go for broke

Shouldn't have to say this shit every week.

Huge negative was Bennell being Sub, wtf goes on in that MC room.
Bennell has arguably been in our best 3 players almost weekly, has been a shining light for us all year and here he is sitting on the pine while total spuds like Cripps are running around chasing shadows.

In my opinion Bennell being sub was one of the most stunning selection bloopers in Footy history.

Agree with the Bennell sub. Very strange choice

Just watched the replay.

Positives
McGov and his strong contested marks
Lycett (Please don't drop him!)
EMacs defensive game on Riewoldt

Negatives
Kennedy and Lecca. You'd normally bet your house on them scoring from a set shot so not unsure why the need to pass it off all the time
Masten. What is his role now? I keep seeing him in our defensive half, shouldn't he be in the other half?
And the big one
Slow start against a wooden spoon club, next two weeks will be messy.

I know it's revolutionary, but was Bennell just resting up for a big job on ballantyne off a six day break? Also felt to me like Lycett was doing at least 50% of the ruck work to keep Naitanui fresh.

Just a feeling though as I didn't get to watch the whole game.

Positives:
•Hurn taking control and playing like a true leader. Looking more and more like the best fit for captaincy.
•Mckenzie showing a lot of class on one of the most inform forwards in the game.
•Rosa proving he is really worth trying to resign. Stayed in the game and kept running all day long.
•Lycett looks ready to take over the reigns when cox retires. (Just hope thats soon rather than later)
•McGovern. Loving his work. I feel like he could become an X factor type player

This seems pretty obvious, especially after Ballantyne had another top game. If we'd lost the game on the back of Billings 3goals then question & rage away but we still won by 5 goals with a lot of dysfunction.
Some of our corraling(sp?) is so damn poor. Its laughable how often we give up the attacking side to our opponents in 50/50 situations. Even tackles where we seem to fly off sideways, allowing them full view and access to run forward.

Positives:
Three more goals to McGovern.
LeCras with more midfield time.
Rotating Captaincy seems to bring out the best in the captains for a day.
Rosa and Darling best games in three weeks.
MacKenzie back to his best.

Negatives:
Our famed Forward Press has gone missing.
We are still only playing in short spurts.
Our Tacking is poor in places.
Lack of a small goal kicking forward to capitalise on the spillage from our bevy of talls.

One huge negative is that i'm starting to think Shuey not going to the next level is just his attitude and work rate more than anything else, which is pretty disappointing.

Hope i'm wrong though.

I think Shuey would be a star at Hawthorn, Collingwood, Sydney, Port or Freo. At our club the opposition know he is the only midfielder that can hurt them and they make sure he is closely guarded.
It is easy to say he needs to deal with a tag but he has had one right from the start. Great players from other clubs get tagged but they have great players around them which we don't. No one cares what Priddis, Selwood or Masten do. The opposition will concede 30 possessions to all them every game knowing they won't hurt them.
Shuey needs some help and until that happens he will always look like a disappointment.

Positives: Lycett. Midfield was quite good. We won the last quarter. Rosa and Priddis were good. Gov and Darling were good. Hurn in the backline was fantastic, should be captain.

Negatives: Some of our kicking was terrible yet again. Some of our decision making was terrible yet again. Masten was crap, Cripps was terrible. I thought our forward line pressure was actually very poor, they got it out of their backline far too easily.

At what point does someone start a MB thread about Gov leading the competition in contested marks for a 3 week period to ultimately conclude he is better than Jack Watts?

You hear people say Suckling or McKenzie are the best.
Victoria media. You'll see a great example soon comparing the fanfare around Brown's retirement vs Glass'.

Nothing better than Hurn's dead accurate low trajectory passes. Except maybe the 60m high trajectory version that spots the waiting forward. Or maybe the 65m goalbound version.

Irrelevent... different drafts. Should be pointed out that he is currently gaining as many possessions for Melbourne that Tom Scully is. Or that he currently has 1 less possession than Jack Trengove this season whilst having 150% tackles and 280% marks.

Actually he'll likely get more stats for us than anyone drafted in '09 (Gov's first eligible year) for Melbourne.

Or if we want to go for his actual draft year... how's that Lucas Cook bloke looking?

to smart for this thread I am afraid. Good to see Lysett getting plenty of work.
Bennell back after a knee reco gets a light outing - acid put on others to perform. Some didnt like the heat and it will be noted.

Such a meh game, first part of the game felt like none of the boys wanted to be there.

+
A win's a win
Mcgovern
Lycett - Should give him the cheque book
Mackenzie

-
Masten
Cripps
Sub choices. I would say our ideal option would be Cripps at the moment, if he is to keep getting a game.
WTF to do with the Cox conundrum.

that press went missing in 2013 and was barely famous. Simpson may not even be implementing a forward press. The game evolves.
