Well now that I'm over the crushing disappointment I'm feeling pretty good about the future. Some positives from tonight:

Harvey coached superbly. Great gameplan! Good matchups. Crowley tagging Ablett, Josh on Bartel.
The first quarter of exciting, attacking footy.
Sandi!
Pav!
Ibbo!
Jonnos back!
with 2 best defenders out of the game for the last quarter we went within a point of the champs.
Mayne & Headland to come back in.
we've turned over a few players on the list and we're back in business. I think we'll win quite a few from here on in.

I think Harvey has to leave Crowley and Carr to do what they do best. Shut down jobs and niggle the shit out of form players.

They do it well, leave there and let them be physical.

You've got to leave Drum in, could develop into a fine tall. I think the biggest positive you could draw on from tonights game was the clearance work.

Performed very well against the second best Clearance side in the comp.

negative - trying to slow down game with 8 minutes left in 2nd qtr...geelong bang in 5 in a row...good coaching? or poor decision making by players

11 unaswered goals to the cats at subi end not good enough

We played 2 and a half quaters against the best and lost by a point thats the positve.

It shows we need to aspire to develop/create an A grade midfield because when a side has that opposition can't effectively close down all of them at the same time- ie corey & sellwood came to the party while bartel & ablett kept quiet.

Also agree josh and second chance need to be played in tagging roles.
Ibbo continues to develop, Rhys is developing nicely, drum did some useful things, Johnno and mundy stepped up.

Lets not forget Big Bird's dominance- its been along time coming.

The biggest positive for me is we have blooded 3 class kids, Palmer, Mayne and Ibbotson. All 3 have the potential to be A grade players. And then along with those 3, throw in Foster and Warnock and you have a good midfield in 2-3 years time.

Spot on.

JCarr and Crowley do their best work when they have a defined role on which they can concentrate for the whole 4 quarters.

Crowley's best game of the year.

Don't forget about Hinckley, he has been thrown in the deep end and will only get better. Freo stuffed up in the 2007 national draft ............... no.

I was very frustrated last night, but let's look forward.

I reckon Sandi this season has been solid and I felt he was improving one step each game, last night he took four steps at once. He has realised he is big and is not afraid to swat the "pretty boy" midfielders if they get in his way.

... or Brock. :thumbsu:

Solid group of players there - all aged 18-22.

ditto ditto.

They need to be given a job of "shutdown X player. niggle him the entire game". And they do a fanastic job.

I thought the one on one, with plenty of hard running to get numbers to the ball and the quick play on at all costs to give Pav the chance to be one out with his defender and the forwards ability to shutdown geelongs run out of defense and stop the easy delivery to their midfield who usually hang around the wings waiting for the easy kick where the positives we have been looking for ,for a long time .Full credit to Harves and the coaching staff to get this team oriented mindset into the troops and lets hope he drums it into them with the fear of death if they dont continue.

But the best thing was, it wasn't actually "play on at all costs", it was more like "keep the ball moving by using the right option". Too often when sides want to play on a lot and keep the ball moving, they try and do it when the play simply isn't there to be made. We played on when we could, but we very rarely ran ourselves into trouble just for the sake of playing on.

I hope that made sense.
