We have got our bad game out of our system before the finals.

There were no other positives. Worst performance under NC for a very long time. We were systematically pulled apart by an average side at best. It was one of the most painful things I have had to witness. It was like someone shot Bambi.

I didn't see the game today but I am assuming the experience was no more pleasant that watching Norwood beat West by 12 behinds (plus about 5 gettable shots out on the full) and watching Adelaide United get absolutely trounced everywhere but the scoreboard today, I think it was 12 or more corners to none.

It's like a car accident ... so horrible to watch but u can't look away and then you tell your friends all about it.

You don't mean Bambi of Prince song fame do u? "Bambi, can't u understand ... Bambi, it's better with a man" ... and so on and so forth.

For all last weeks pro Gill supporters ......surely Gills efforts today as the future of our forwrd line was a POSITIVE

Very frustrating game. Only 3 goals after quarter time

Gee I thought nothing would top the WCE game in terms of absolutely horrible performances but I think this one today just about takes the cake.

Just need to forget about today and move on.

Must beat the Dogs next week.

If someone had have told me we would be sitting 6th after reound 21 and have had no Burton and no Porp , I would have told them they're dreaming.

We have had a fantastic year but we are still along way off being a genuine premiership contender.

NC has to make up for some pretty deplorable years on draft day/trade week, so there are no quick fixes.

Well said :thumbsu: We can all see that we lack natural KPFs which is where Hentschel and Walker come in. Sellar and Tippett have the body size and strength but Trent and Taylor have the footy smarts and goal sense. If at least 2 of those 4 can come good, then we should have a much stronger forward line - especially with Porps, Douglas and some of our youngsters crumbing.

I like Moran but he managed to put the ball down the throat of an oncoming Saints midfielder at least 5 times today and another 5 times he had Crows waiting behind him and he's tapped the ball forward and to ground into a 3 v 1 contest in favour of St Kilda.

He's promising but his ruckwork and in particular the directioning of his taps needs a LOT of work.

Just a follow-up...stats, stats, and you know the rest but here's the facts:

St. Kilda - 26 hit-outs (23% efficiency)
King - 21 (19%)
Goddard - 2 (0%)
Other - 3

Adelaide - 27 hit-outs (30% efficiency)
Maric - 13 (31%); 5 disposals, 1 mark, 77%TOG
Moran - 10 (40%); 12 disposals, 7 marks, 72%TOG
Other - 4

Interesting reading hey!

I am getting tired of the pre-conceived bias against Moran based on a couple mis-timed leaps, a couple soft frees in his early games (which ruckman isn't pinged for crap frees), and the fact he is newer to the game...i am not claiming he is an elite ruck yet but he is far, far better than the scathing reviews people have given him (not just Rave Slave, but others who even suggested dropping him this week:o). His major deficit at this stage is he in not a naturally 'hard at it' player like Maric but he makes up for it in field play with good positioning, linking up, very sound skills, strong marking, AND good ruckwork which is improving every game.

Watch the play not the reputation i reckon.

For a <10 game player he is one of the most promising we have had. Get on board people.

Right on the money there Springy.

Like many others, I had us somewhere between 6th and 12th at the beginning of the season as we all knew that it was going to be a year of transition between the old and the new - a year of development.

We've blooded 6 young players for their very first AFL game plus 2 youngish newbies with very few games under their belts from other clubs.

We've been lucky with the draw and we've played somewhat above expectations at time. The reverse has also held in 2 games - last Sunday and the match against West Coast.

We have had to improvise week after week with the forward line while we wait for our draftees to become ready for AFL action, a situation that hasn't been helped by the loss of Burton and injury to Porps.

For us it comes down to 2 things in our current state of development - intensity and domination of the clearances as we are still down on AFL consistent players.

Both of those were at low ebbs on Sunday and we all know what happened after that.

We won't win a flag this year - we're not good enough at this stage - but we have made big strides in the transition from relying on the old hands to the new boys, while performing at the top level of overall expectations.

I'd say that all in all it's been a pretty good year.

Could not have put it better myself. :thumbsu:

Also big props to Simon Goodwin for proving that the momentary glimpse of good form was just an anomaly and that he's now back to missing targets, second guessing and fumbling the ball.

Either get your back fixed (if that's the problem) or get out.
Missed the game live fortunately but have read a few scathing reviews on here about Goodwin. I saw on Footy Classified though that he got 5 votes in the coaches votes.

What's the story?

The truth is in the middle. Still not injury free, made a few uncharacteristic errors but overall contributed more than most in a terrible team performance.

That 5 was from Lyons who thanked him for some of his pin point passes....................to their players.

Try being there....It was hard to watch us make the Aints look good.

One thing that bugged me was the way we moved the ball forward. From what I could gather against the Dons we went through CHF, ie Gill. On Sunday this did not occur. In the third quarter we constantly went down the wing and lost it in the forward line as the kick went to Aints defenders. Why not use Gill who was at CHF? Quite often he was one on one and you would back him in that instance.

Add to that Ruttens nonperformance on Riewoldt. Bock killed him, why not stay on him all day. Even when pushing deep in the forward line. Rutten was a good match up for Kossie though.

Milne was running around like a stray dog as was Harvey at times. A point I made during the week. Although this week we was not good enough to take advantage, he set up two goals.

As the OP stated the positive is that we played so poorly we made our opposition look good. We were not beaten playing at our peak. A better team such as Hawks or Geelong would of smashed us by 100 plus. However I hope this is just a blip, and we come back agains the Dogs and beyond.
