Given the fact the lad (Rhys Palmer ) has some talent should we offer Fremantle a late 2nd round pick for his service, could be a good addition to replacing Dash at half back, or turn him to a goal sneak up forward.

Let me think about it - no.

Who do we replace Milburn with? Umm any of our younger players, Gillies, Taylor Hunt, possibly Guthrie in time.

Don't need him, don't want him. And certainly don't want to give away draft picks.

Re: Rhys Palmer

You may have read our game plan the wrong way. Yes we are trying to create turnovers, but we're trying not to turn the ball over. If you get my drift ;)
No.

Re: Rhys Palmer

Ok take that as a big NO who else can we steal for a penny that will complement the side and fit in with our young brigade.

His disposal/decision making skills aren't close to being good enough to play across half back in modern AFL.

With a change in environment and some good coaching he may grow into a player who uses the talents he does have to become a solid AFL midfielder. We've got enough players who should be able to become solid AFL midfielders.

More likely he will be an average to above average forward flanker. You don't trade 2nd round picks for average forward flankers.

Generally you don't find these players.

You can take a chance on a player like Marcus Drum and hope that the new environment, new coaches and fresh start will unlock the potential that they had when young.

You can also sometimes pick up the delisted players who no-one really wants dirt cheap but not many of them become great player for great sides.

Otherwise you just do what you can with drafting young players and hoping to get some value out of rookie and mature age selection. Our recruiting has been second to none on both these fronts and I don't see any reason why this will change.

If you want to pick up a younger player who will have immediate impact in our current side (Boak, Gray, Dangerfield for example) you will have to pay top dollar for them. Unless there is an obvious trade available (player we really need, player desperately wants to come to Geelong, or Geelong player desperately wants to leave) I doubt we'll find much value in trading for quality players.

Re: Rhys Palmer

Half back? My gosh, someone who turns the ball over that much would be the worst half back in modern history with the press? Definitely not.

He's going to GWS anyway, everyone knows it.

Scott Gumbleton

Hi All,

Given we will have a couple of spots on the list due to Retirements delistings etc would anybody want to take a punt on Scott Gumbleton, we took a risk with Marcus Drum last year and it didn't pay off cause he just couldn't get himself right (His body let him down), Gumbleton has not been able to get on the park but has talent to burn and Essendon Paitence must be wearing thin after 5 years and just 21 games.

Now im not saying we should just trade for him but if the bombers delist him give him a pre-season with our medical staff and if we can get him right give him a spot on the rookie list or draft him in the 5th round as this draft is not as deep as 2012, I beleive all we can do is gain from it

Re: Scott Gumbleton?

Depending on how many retire, I'm guessing we are going to have a tough time de-listing the necessary amount of players anyway, without making way for another hopefully, injury-riddled player Like Gumbleton.

Re: Scott Gumbleton?

No, we already have Brown who copped enough injuries over the years

Pretty sure Hird is on record as saying the Gumby is a required player at Essendon so can't see him leaving there anytime soon

Required to do what exactly?

Hird hasn't selected him once and it's not as if he's coaching a team full of superstars. My guess is he's talking him up to try to increase his trade value.

Re: Scott Gumbleton?

No. We already have Brown as our designated 'very talented but injury prone forward', we don't need another.

There's also no way you'll get him that cheap, Essendon won't delist him and they'd only trade him for much much more than late picks. The risk is not worth it when factoring in what he would cost.

Re: Scott Gumbleton?

Essendon will want something decent for him.

Yeah true. And he is contracted.

We've sunk a serious amount of time and effort into him. I'd say we'll run him stupid this preseason and give him one last crack at it next year. If he breaks down, he'll either retire or be delisted.
