Apparently Eagles lead 10.6 to 2.5 at half time with West Coast dominating. :( No injuries to either side, usual suspects good for West Coast. McDougall kicked 3 goals in the first quarter.

Jakovich leading Croad to the ball every time at CHF.

Why is the feeling always so good when we beat Hawthorn?
Maybe because some of my mates go for hawthorn, and one of them is a real smart arse to me when they win?
But then i guess beating any melbourne side is a good feeling for me, cos i get to bag the cr@p through all the people here! :D

Beating Collingwood is always the best feeling though

Courtesy of GOALden Hawk on Hawk Headquarters:

"Late in the 3rd term, Eagles lead 12.8.80 to 4.7.31. Hawthorn have apparently been much better this quarter but poor finishing for goal has let us down."

Just thought i'd keep the updates coming

Eagles win 99 to 64

Let them get a few back but a pre-season win is a pre-season win and there must have been some good signs to be leading the way they did.

Good stuff, hopefully, no further injuries of note.

2 week injury. With 15-odd days before rd1, there is no reason why he can't recover in time. The question is, has he done enough to secure a spot in our rd 1 squad, and is he so important to our structure that the eagles be willing to take a punt on him being fully recovered?

to be honest johnson didnt do much in the first quater, the ball seemed to keep on by-passing him at CHF to Doogs. He got only 3-4 possesions in the first, jako replaced him in the second...johno went to the bench and he got injured playing at CHF in the third.

i think it would have been touch and go whether he got a game round 1. this injury makes woosha's decision alot easier. i suspect staker will get a birth ahead of him.

apparently the knee injury to Barker is serious
Barkers knee looked prety bad.... he was helped of the ground by 2 trainers either side and his knee and a massive ice pack.

Johnson was in pain when he came off... it looked like a corky to me but wasnt sure. He collided with sampi taking a brave Mark. Shame because he had a solid game.

Doogs took some solid grabs, but missed plenty of set shots, but very happy with his efforts and attack on the footy.

Mead will fill in the rest i'm sure.

Just got back from dinner.. Great game by Cousins and Judd..

Judd's took a strong contested mark inside 50 for a goal.. was my highlight of the day :)

Also saw the cousins/bateman thing.. Wasn't much it in I thought

I thought Johnson did a corky with the Sampi clash, he seemed okay a few minutes later. Chooky had his knee iced though.
It was a very good workout, WCE took the foot right off the accelerator in the last quarter otherwise it would have been a massacre.
There were a lot of very good Eagles players out there. I don't rate the Hawks chances of making the 8 at all and I reckon Hay is weeks off being fit. As for Shirley Bateman, what a hairdo, any girl would be proud of it. And what a tosser of a player too.
Back to WCE, onlt two concerns for me :-

1) Staker...........confidence gone
2) Doogs...........great game except he can't kick straight..maybe a confidence thing but remember the stick BB took with poor kicking Well the crowd will murder Doogs if he kicks like he did tonight.

Now the question is..........................

Who do you reckon will line up for us in round 1 ?

Heard it on channel 9 :) We shouldn't be too worried, I rekon he'll recover and then a couple of games in the WAFL and then in contention for about r3 or 4 ! Hope doogs doesn't cop any flak from the crowd if he doesn't kick overly accurate, he's only young and that will only make the situation worse, i sure as hell won't be booing him.

hey im on a mates computer and wont be home tonight, so a full review won't be forthcoming until midday tomorrow. Just some general thoughts though...
-not withstanding his average kicking, Doogs was outstanding- he took marks on the lead, in pack situations and was good at ground level- despite his inability to convert after the first quarter, he was still leading tothe ball and getting quality touches all day, against a variety of decent opposition. He took on and saw off Graham, Jacobs and Hay over the course of the game, and never really stopped finding the ball.

-EKA and I both thought that Johnson had sprained an ankle in the collision with samps. It didn't look too bad at all, and after a few minutes it seemed to get better... When he went to the huddle at three quarter time he was hardly limping at all, so I think it was a fairly light sprain or jar or whatever nothing big. Unless Johnsons is just a real hard bastard who pretends everything is fine when it isn't, I would be astonished if he missed round one.

-Embley was about bog I thought.

-Lynch is a god among footballers and the answer to all our prayers at CHB.

-Jakovich is an embarassment to himself and the team in defence..

hope hes right? how so?

I wouldnt think the injury would keep Johnno out of the first round. He was walking on it around the boundary quite well, without grimacing at all. 15 days and hell be fine. I reckon he will play personally, Hes been playing very well and it did appear to me at least when he was off a little of our structure up forward disapeared.

yep, pretty much agree there

As we both commented, Jako is a forward and only a forward now. Good guy to have on the bench if Johnson/Doogs/Staker are struggling/get injured to play as an impact player. Wasnt hard for him today but, he got Croad up forward;)(on a side note Croad is an embarrasment to football)

I cant think of a player who didnt do a few good things. My player, Michael Collica i felt had a solid hitout without being awesome. Im supposed to be pushing him for selection, and he will go close but hes by no means a certainty. Didnt do anything wrong though and is a chance to play IMO.

Adkins did well with what he did, got the ball a fair bit and did some good things with it. Could have had 2-3 more goals if hed kicked straight but his characteristic hook shot on goal was there and he didnt judge it as well as he normally does.

Seaby(obvious bias ahead;)) in my mind was very good. Mead commented he plays a lot like Cox did probably early last year but for mine is a lot more agile/able at ground level than Cox was. He played a fair amoutn in the ruck to give Coxy a rest and i reckon at the least held his own against Campbell and Everitt, possibly even winning the battle. Provided a good target on the wing as a link man and had about a million handballs without a single kick;) Does this guy hate kicking or something? i shall have to ask him:P

Cox was, when on, quite good without being awesome. Definately an awesome sight but, he just breathes confidence now. When the ball goes up and he comes in it just looks like hes saying "This is my ball, i KNOW i'm going to win it. Will work great in tandem with Gards this year. Where Seaby fits in is tough, as he is a ruckmen, not really a forward. Wouldnt be surprised though, if Johnno cant play, if Seabs got a game and Gards played at CHF to easy him in, so he doesnt have to ruck. This is a serious possibilty and may have been going to happen even if Johnno wasnt/isn't injured.

Exciting times ahead. I dont think it was that we were awesome today, we only really did what we had to to put them away. Never REALLY put the pedal down, nor do i think we intended to. Hawks will struggle bigtime IMO.

Vicki, the day draws ever closer.....

PS At this moment I pray that Lynchy didn't have a stinker and Mead isn't taking the (Stephen) Michael

Lynch was great, he really was. Calm, cool, collected. some VERY good spoils, knows what to do under pressure and rebounds well. He really does to me look like an early days jakovich and seems to be sky high on confidence. a dead set certaintly for round 1 IMO
