Cowan kicked 4 maybe and dalton sporting a Shaun rehn type knee brace 3 and murph a couple, certainly have not replaced what they have lost but Cowan dominated as mentioned above, there new centre half backed looked a likely type used the ball well but silvans lack of a key chf meant he rolled back a lot into frouds space, aswell as a on baller I believe is a cousin of the tessareiro (spelling up the piss I know) looked solid through the midfield! They had a lot of new faces mainly young kids which should hold them in good stead in saying that there biggest issue is in the ruck and midfield depth I believe

Cheers Beau, I don't think you can go wrong playing the kids. I believe it is better than rolling in old retired players to fill gaps. Might as well develop them - have a look at Olinda... Best of luck to the boys..

Might be a long year.
I know practice matches are not much of a guide, but beating Silvan is not a real challenge anyway and means even less when Silvan had half the side not playing.

Not actually from mt.evelyn RHT,was just itching for a game of footy, it seems to be dragging this year and I work with a bloke from mt.ev, I must apologise I know my comments weren't in line with most of the usual negative garbage that finds its way on here! But olinda great example of promoting juniors think upwey do it very well also! Just on olinda see tregonning has put a clearance in to Sydney f.l and one of the rosier bros trying to better themselves at a vfl level would think they would need some pretty handy kids to cover those two interested to hear how they are tracking up there tees? I know they have a tough praccy sat against montrose f.c

Exactly right kids are the way to go. A mass injection of players from other clubs will often bring short term gain but always results in long term pain. Unfotunately the people that feel the pain are the true club people left to clean up the mess.

Ummm, just taking it 1 week at a time, Errr, just looking to be competitive, Hmmm hoping to be there-abouts...

Yep we have Montrose this week, Mooroolbark the following week. This is the 3rd year we've had Montrose and both previous games were decided in the last 5 minutes. The difference is the depth as there Reserves have been far too good for us both times, and our Reserves have been finalists in Div 1 both years, its great lead in for us. Tregoning virtually didn't play last year so were prepared for it. Rosier has had an exceptional summer, and will be with us when not at Casey. Hopefully for his sake we don't see him all Winter.....someone always steps up in this situation.

I think we have an exceptional working relationship with our Junior Club, and to be brutally honest, we would be absolutely stuffed if this wasn't the case. It is far more difficult to attract quality from off the hill when these guys have to drive through suburbs such as Montrose, The Basin, Boronia, Bayswater, Upwey, UFTG, Monbulk etc.

Emerald knocked off Belgrave by 14 points @ Emerald. Belgrave won the Reserves clash.

Bit of a surprise there Minnesota - I would have thought Emerald would have won by a lot more than 14 Points. I think they beat them by about 15 goals last year. But it is just practise match form.

Do Belgrave look the goods? How did the Collins triplet go?

Didn't see the match, just heard the result. I'll try and get some more info on the match today.

Gembrook beat Wantirna South by a goal or two in the seniors. Good hit out for both sides.
Wantirna South won the Reserves by 13 goals and they also won the Colts pretty easily as well.

Upwey first hit out for the year against Glen Waverley.

18s won easy.

reserves won easy despite playing the last quarter with 14 players.

seniors ran away with it in the last to win by around 4 goals. a lot of depth this year. some really good young kids coming through. pretty good performance considering some names that were missing.

Speaking to the heathmont coach, quite a few missing through cricket commitments today. Wandin got them on an off week so speak. Good player include Daniel hammersley, nick cross land and big sharply from the game I saw

Wandin took care of Heathmont to the tune of 80 points today, looking strong over at the kennel.

Certainly would not be getting carried away with wandins efforts heathmont resembled a second division(yvmdfl) outfit and the scoreboard showed! Still not quite sure where the dogs are at, a month ago everyone on there forum considered there recruits no good, but on another thread everyone has them top 5 some top 2! Certainly not convinced after watching today that they will have a big impact

Twenty odd clearances in you'd have to think some of them can play.

have no affiliation with them so like a lot around the league just go by glancing at the clearance list but what I can't quite understand is the hysteria surrounding the amount of clearances? Aren't they just trying to improve their list? And wouldn't both the match committee and general committee be derelict in their duties not to have that aim? As long as they aren't selling the farm to buy what they can't afford what's the drama?

u would think that wouldnt u but i ventured up there today to try and witness the hype. had a couple of solid contributors but as stated in oldtimers post, heathmont undermanned. big kiwi ruckmen looks to be a crowd favorite. young full forward kicked a few and no.1 who plays forward looked as tho he had spent all weekend on the turps. interesting to see how they will pan out this year

That's about 35 new players in over two seasons if it's not successful what path do they go down next? What possible options do they have and how long can this approach last?

Method could prob go either way finger but what alternative approach were they supposd to take? Can't build a side out of under eighteen kids anymore. One thing I will say is they seem to be young blokes, not your 28/29 year olds plus I was told that 4 or 5 are ex juniors coming back. I wish no club Ill will whatsoever I just reckon, purely from the outside looking in, it seems very hard to keep up without recruiting heavily and in doing so rolling the dice, look at mt Evelyn, any recruiting is a risk.

wow if thats a fact, the season could be interesting. having said that, from what i saw today, the players they have recruited are not of the ilk as say silvans recruiting in the past. yet upwey seem to recruit players year in year out and no one gives any shouts. do people have it in for wandin or wot. i see it as they are only trying to improve their club. happy to be told otherwise.

totally agree rufee, only one player out there today that looked of some age. no.24 but was told that he has been a club bnf and is going round one more year to help out the younger brigade. young and quick seems to be the way to go nowadays. i did ask some of the locals on 'the deck' about the juniors up there and all seem quite excited about the coming year. maybe not a bad few years ahead

Who was having a shot at Wandin? Simply asking the question as I doubt a club has recruited so heavily before.

C'mon fingy, you have been potting wandin from day dot thought you would be wrapped with there recruiting after all they have certainly helped your interleague aspirations this over the last two years!(Seems that is The Only sides barrow you want to push!) would like you to compare Belgrave and upweys clearance list not to dissimilar I would of thought? In more relevent news mt ev beat coldstream by 4 goals yesterday
