Great stuff. Although you contradict yourselves when you talk about not touching Peter Wright with a barge pole because we don't need to invest in another 200cm+ ruckman, but then go on to you think we will take another ruckman with a later pick or rookie selection. Add to that that Peter Wright is also one of the better Key position forwards in the draft, not just a straight up ruckman. I just felt you both were a bit quick to right (pardon the pun) him off. Especially when you referred to him as erratic.

Fair point, all we meant was in the context of pick 12 we would prefer to spend it on a mid given our list needs, but a later pick should go on a tall.

Plus 200 cm kids are normally erratic when they start in the AFL, even when they are supremely talented, when you draft one it's long term investment.

To add two things to this episode:

The AFL.com.au Dan Richardson quotes were from a phone call the reporter had with him during the trade period to discuss specific players (they've since written articles on Cotchin/Rance contract, Vickery and Knights), so you won't be able to find that audio/transcript anywhere.

The weird Friday night game: Richmond v Melbourne is Anzac Eve, we've been pushing for that fixture for a few years now and they let us have it this year due to it being a Friday night, probably wouldn't otherwise. We expect that if we can draw a big crowd, the fixture could become a permanent one.

Nice one fellas . Very interesting re draft camp results and AFL performance not always correlating....

Won't be drawing a big crowd with Melbourne winnin wooden spoons every year, even if they become good one day it won't ever get more than 60. I reckon we should've pushed for Hawforn, the 5th biggest club in vic

Positive as always!

You need to take your Richmond hat off for a second and say what will the league allow us to do. Remember, they control everything.
If you can take a game that has proven to attract crowds of 50,000+ in recent years when both teams are playing ok, and one of those teams now happens to be in need of some high profile games, you have a much better chance of getting that off the ground at league HQ than another blockbuster.

Playing this game with the league is about making a win for all parties, not just one club.

Also, there's a real history of Richmond and Melbourne losing players during war time, from that point of view the teams are a natural fit.

Hey Stig, since you are in this thread can we have a podcast super group episode?
I know the 2 podcasts have a different focus / feel but I think that would add to the experience.

Lets be honest as promising as he is his physicality is a fair way off afl level. Hopefully he can get his body and fitness to where it needs to be. Not many stick kpfs in the afl. His efforts in the vfl have been great though.
It's deliberate, letting Jack have a few more goal kicking awards before taking them all for the next 10 years.

Ha did you see him in the time trial? Talk about running like a girl!!

I think westhoff took a few years to fill out , still isn't particularly big. Don't know if he also runs like a girl flea . But if the Bean comes close to being near westhoff I'd be happy with the club's return on investment... I think the Bean is still settling into his body given , I believe he was still a mid untill 16yrs....
