Question.

Can a club trade a PSD pick?

Say for example could we trade pick 1 in the PSD, with say Sydney or Hawthorn for their first round November draft pick (they could even throw in Mitch Thorp for their troubles)?

I'm thinking if Brian Lake didn't resign with the doggies and nominated for the draft they (hawthorn) would get first crack. We could then either use pick 9(?) for ourselves or package it up and make a serious play for Salopek.

Bugger...

Ok if Lake is going to be on the table, and if we have flagged we would put the hand in the pocket for the right player would we concevably put one of Frawley  or Garland  on the market and try to secure another (very) early first round pick?

The Doggies have said that they won't be trading Lake and if he wants to go somewhere else he's going to have to take his chances in the pre-season draft.

Imagine if he did go into the pre-season draft, I know he'll re-sign with the Dogs but allow me to dream.

B: Bennell Warnock Frawley
HB: Strauss Lake Rivers

Garland to go forward.

OR

B: Bennell Lake Frawley
HB: Strauss Rivers Garland

Warnock as depth and very handy depth at that.

If only.

U obviously dont follow trade week or national, rookie and psd to closely.

i said in another post a few weeks back that lake may be on the market... and everyone thought i was nutz. That said, lake will be a doggie next year.

We need a midfielder who can kick like rich (scully) and a gun ruckman. McIntosh? (is that how you spell it). He has been on the verge of walking the last few trade weeks. Saw him having a indepth conversation with his manager in the CBD the other day.. maybe something is up again?

Stuff seaby... pick 18 and rivers/warnock for mcintosh. hell yeah. We have real currency to play with. Roos are just about to start a rebuild, we are on our way up.

We have a better version he's called Colin Sylvia.

I'm not that sure we have a dyre need for a ruckman. Jamar is a fantastic tap ruckman whom seldom gets beaten, and he has been working well around the ground. Between him, Martin and Messen jobs right.:D

Well said Andy... and you're right on the money about Sylvia too.

Colin Sylvia is a far better player, with a lot more upside, than Rich.

I am not a massive Rich fan. He was the best first year player, easily. But i have said it before an will say it again. I do not see a massive upside to Daniel Rich. His game and body are basicly fully developed thanks to him being a professional footballer for the last 2 years.

How about Warnock for Hawtthorn's first rounder? It'd be sad to see him go but we could potentially pick up Butcher and another gun midfielder with pick 8. Hawthorn need a full back and the trade would be tailor-made. With the emergence of James Frawley it may not be needed, but we could then pick up lake in the PSD *drools*

don't forget Jimmy Strauss and Addam Maric, the best kicks of the '07 and '08 drafts

So who's still out of contract at other clubs then? Lake? Salopek? Anyone else we'd want to take?

Well as said earlier in the thread, Lake will almost certainly be staying with the Bulldogs anyway. Salopek however, looks like more of a chance...

You are seriously overrating Warnock's value. I think he would be worth probably a third round pick.

If ever a team is going to pay over the odds it would be Hawthorn looking for a full back. You can't rely on Croad coming back, Gilham and Shoenmakers in his second year. In this so called weak draft I'd give up my second rounder for Warnock for sure if I was the hawks. We'd have to throw in something to get pick 8 from them.

Personally I wouldn't trade Warnock for pick 25, I'd keep him and then try Garland in the forward line for the best part of a season.

Would be very hard to get pick 8 from Hawthorn when they don't even have it.

Maric is a better kick than Rich? Now that would be something to watch.

Both Sylvia & Davey would be better kicks as well...
