Looking at the team last year , I was leaning for us to replace Weller in our best 22 , however after the guy has shown so much determination to drop a huge amount of weight and really putting in during the preseason , I will find it hard to take him out of the 22.
Which is good , but it closes the door on any newcomer into the forward line.

Geary - Brown - Webster
Roberton - Carlisle - Savage
Sinclair - Steele - Acres
Weller - Bruce - Billings
Membery - McCartin - Gresham

Longer - Ross - Steven

Newnes / Dunstan / Stevens / Armitage and Gilbert

I really do feel this will be the line up - unless we get injuries

I was kind of hoping the side would look like this

Geary - Austin - Webster
Roberton - Carlisle - White
Sinclair - Steele - Acres
Long - Bruce - Billings
Membery - McCartin - Gresham

Longer - Ross - Steven

Stevens / Dunstan / Coffield / Battle

with Weller , Savage , Newnes , Goddard , Armitage , Freeman , McKenzie , Phillips waiting in the wings if anyone doesn't cut it

The preseason games will be a must see , to see who gets in the team , due to our supply of talent now

Unless we get some preseason injuries it’s hard to see anyone breaking into our best line up from last year . It’s a shame really because it means they won’t win the rising Star.
Be good to get Clark in there as well.

Can’t wait for 2018 season.

But people in the area would like to see them, and that's a great opportunity to do so.

I'd hazard a guess that it's more important they work on strategies, tactics and training out of the public eye at this stage of the pre season than worrying about having open sessions for the public. They'll have those during the season.

I think there will be opportunity for Coffield and Clarke to break in at some point, injuries and suspensions always come up, if they get their chance and shine then they could stay in the team for a long time.

But I know what you mean. Hard to win the rising star if you don’t play a good chunk of the season.

I see your point, for supporters who live out that way and who can't come in for a regular open session but they do hold community camps around the coast from time to time. But the real business now is getting ready for the season. Maybe on the last day they could allow people in for the last hour or so.

You should email the club.

Sounds about right . Do people find it annoying because I’ll turn it off if that is the case.

Can’t wait for 2018 season.

Don't turn it off BT. How will we know if you're looking forward to 2018 or not if you do? ;)

Contract done, ankle mended, McCartin gets on with the job

Paddy McCartin has signed a two-year extension overnight.

With the ink still drying on a two-year contract extension that ties him to St Kilda until the end of 2020, key forward Paddy McCartin put his best foot forward at his old school on Monday.

McCartin, 21, returned to the main group on day one of the Saints’ weeklong pre-season camp at Geelong Grammar, after overcoming an ankle injury that sidelined him in December and for the first half of January.

On a perfect day for pre-season on the Bellarine Peninsula, the 2014 No. 1 pick was pleased to commit his future to the Saints and get back on with the job at hand.

“It’s a two-year deal on top of this year as well, so until the end of 2020, which is really exciting. It’s good to get it out of the way and just focus on footy,” McCartin told saints.com.au at Geelong Grammar on Monday.

“It’s good being back out there. I’ve done a lot of work in the last six to eight weeks to get back. I got out there today and feel really fit and confident.”

While frustrated by another unfortunate setback late last year, McCartin said the injury hadn’t undone the block of work he compiled late last season, across the off-season and in the first month of the pre-season.

“I had a little setback with my foot, but that hasn’t really set me back at all; I feel fitter now than I do before. I’m looking forward to getting stuck back into training fully,” McCartin said.

“I had a really good block heading into the off-season.

“With my head (concussion) I had a lot of time to get really fit and do a lot of work, and then I took that into the off-season. I felt really good when I came back at the start of pre-season.”

McCartin said the change of scenery this week would not only help reinvigorate the group during the toughest month of the pre-season, but also help strengthen relationships.

“It’s relatively similar to a normal training week, but just in a new environment which I think sometimes is really refreshing," he said.

“We’ll do a lot of work together on specific things and train, then we will go up to Jack Steven’s farm on Friday night.

“It’s going to be a really tough training component, but also a good opportunity to bond as a group.”

Actually, I just rewatched his highlights and tried to look for evidence of him as an inside mid, and it seems I underrated him in that department. He stood up in a few tackles and was able to weave through traffic and fire a handball out to advantage. So the attributes are there, can he build them up to be able to do it consistently at a high level is the question I guess.
Ran through there against WA. His biggest asset is his size and awareness. He's very good at knowing the options around him. Which are all inside traits. I don't think he will be an inside mid but I think he will be present at the stoppage as an outside mid. He could he used as a quick run through option

Moved on from Reiwoldt's place to jack steven's place.

Dont rate Lonie a chance ?

So we are going to have the Coffield/GOAT mutant twins careering through the guts?

Interesting to see the article on Koby say that he was troubled by groin issues for the 2nd half of the year, on top of having lost all that weight and getting bad food poisoning just before R1. Has certainly had more than his fair share of injuries and so-on in recent years.

Had major surgery on both groins at the end of the season tho and reckons he hasn't missed a session of the preseason and is feeling the best and most free he ever has, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes if he stays relatively injury free this year.

Barring injuries, there's looking like being huge competition for spots on the inside.

Also interesting to see him say that McPhee (who has taken over the midfield from Kingsley) is "letting the mids play", which I take it means they've been let off the leash a bit.

sorry if this is known news but wife was on the phone to the club today who advised there will be no intraclub game this year due to AFLX and the closeness of the dates with scheduling issues, but family day Friday March 9 down in FRANKO.

personally I'm disappointed because it's something I look forward to, and last year at TBBO we saw the beginning of the Billings.

Not sure what AFLX has to do with anything, given that it effectively just replaces R1 of the JLT series (which used to go over 4 weeks in total).

Disappointing, as the intra club and R1 of the JLT/NAB were a great opportunity to see the young ones that we might not see much for the rest of the year.
