Just re-watched some of last nights game and noticed how many times the ball got past the fielder, and it was all over in terms of the chase. I actually would prefer if there was some of that chasing of the ball that occurs at large grounds like the MCG or the long boundaries of Adelaide Oval, rather than the fielder always having no hope of getting there.

yeah same here, cricket is become more and more a batsmens game these days
if the wicket/ground slightly favours the bowler, play will usually be delayed
the ropes get brought further and further in for one dayers
there will be huge scores at the world cup with the poverty grounds the windies have

Large.

That way batsmen have to earn a 4 or 6 by timing it well.

thats right.. how many times do you see miss timed shots go for six... Watching the highlights in the news and Katich did a flick off that legs that went nearly out of the ground....

This thread should be merged with the massive "Official Australia in South Africa Thread."

Enough with the merging - time and time again, I check to see my thread only to have seen it disappear.

No point, they would bring the ropes 30 metres in for the MCG or the straight down the ground boundary at the Adelaide Oval anyway

I know it's for safety reasons that the ropes have been brought, but how btasmen in the 70s and 80s would've loved these roped in boundaries. I saw a DVD of Viv batting just the other day where he hit Greg Matthews and held out to Kim Hughes at mid who was right in front of the fence when he took that catch, that would've been a comfortable six nowadays

The ropes only need to be brought in 10 metres max. on any ground - but of course they're in much further than that on the Gabba, MCG and Adelaide.

Bump.

What I saw today is the same as what I saw in South Africa last year - you need very little skill on hitting 4s and 6s on those grounds. How many 3s were made today? Lucky to have been 1, and I hate that.

I love the chase of the fielder after the ball, not seeing them take two steps and the ball has gone over the rope.

I like large. However most grounds in world cricket are tiny, so we'll have to get used to it.

Postage Stamp for personal reasons :D

I watched highlights of the Ashes series in 05, and Flintoff mis timed so many shots that went for 6 it was not funny, he would have been caught in Australia so many times half way between the "30 metre circle" and the boundary (yes, I know the circle is not there in test matches)

Medium size is good.

People want lots of sixes and fours, but it gets too harsh on the bowlers if the ground is tooo small, its virtually impossible for them not to get hit for 6.

Its boring, its ruining cricket.

20/20 cricket for small grounds, but please have large grounds for odis and tests, defeats the purpose otherwise. its meant to be even for batsman and bowlers. atm the batsman are being handed a 50 before they even walk out to bat.
