Looking back on the last 2 premiership sides it is easy to see a CORE of domianance in these teams that led the way to their success.

Essendon: Hird, Lloyd, Mercuri, Fletcher, Misiti, J Johnson, Wellman, Caracella, Hardwick, Lucas, Long

Brisbane: Voss, Lappin, Brown, Lynch, Black, Akermanis, Leppich, C Johnson, Michael.

All players who were capable of beating their opponent 8-9 times out of ten. Hence the teams consistent success and hence the premierships.

That being said, I am looking 2-3 years in the future when the team should be ready for similar success. Of the current players on our list I can only see a few who have shown the potential above to make a group like this:

Cousins, Gardiner, Wirrpunda, Kerr, Judd, Phil Matera

There are others who still have a lot of ??? over their heads as they haven't had an opportunity to show what they could achieve:

Glass, Gaspar, McDougall, Humm, Sampi, Seaby, Hanson, Cox, Hunter, Haynes, Munro

There are other guys (the vets) who I would love to see playing great footy in 2-3 years but there days are dwindiling:

Jacko, Milli, Peter Matera, Wilson, Banfield

Then there is the mix in between with 50+ games of experience or 3+ years on the list who have not shown either way whether they are ready to be the real deal.

Jones, Williams, Embley, Prior, Fletcher, Green, Sierakowski, Merenda, Taylor, Tuckey & waste of space Harding.

While some are capable of beating opponents 5 out of 10, that is not enough, I think if a squad is to win a premiership it can afford to carry 4-5 of these guys but not 10. It is going to be interesting to see in the next couple of years who steps up and who falls away. If we were to talk trades right now I doubt many clubs would be interested in these guys.

I think Jones and Fletch should be up in the group above. Jones has shown he can be a very good tagger, and certaintly does not deserve to be down in the not proven at all, and fletch came 3rd in our B&F last year, had a great first round, then played some shockers, got dropped, and has come back to be playing some very good football again.

You left out Braun. I would put him in the group with Cousins, Wirra, etc. He generally beats his opponents and is a solid contributor to the team - especially now that he is getting back to his 99 form.

Harsh, but generally fair.

I would put Collica in the winners group now & believe that Cox will get there soon. Subject to continued health, Braun also.

Jones, Williams, Embley, Fletcher need to continue their current improvement and I'm hopeful they will.

Then it depends on future draft choices and development of players like Gaspar, Glass, Sampi and the others.

Overall, too early to say, but I'm happy with the progress Woosha & Co. are making.
