had the pleasure of attending the Bulldogs President's dinner last night in Darwin.

Smorg's gave a good talk. He has a lot of passion.

One of the main sponsor's gave a talk that went on and on. But if he is paying dollars I can listen

It would of been nice to have some past local players there - eg West, Koops

Sat near Smorg's during the game. The guy is a true fan. Every player who came off he yelled encouragement to. The guy has a passion for the club.

I have read some player reviews and I think they may have been harsh. The humidity and ground conditions were tough. The only player who looked out of form was Bandy - no confidence at all. Streety played well, gave a contest.

Thanks Elvis for the report. I have some questions you may be able to answer.
1. Do you think the club should play 2 games a year based on what you saw last Saturday night.
2. Was there genuine enthusiasm shown by the locals towards our club
3. What was the crowd split. Were the majority following the Dogs,Blues or impartial just happy to see a game of AFL footy.
In my opinion the timing was spot on for this game with us now having a break to aid recovery before our next game. If we were to play 2 games up should we play them in successive weeks before the bye allowing the boys to stay in Darwin thereby reducing travel and aiding recovery.

Mitcha - happy to answer the questions

1. Do you think the club should play 2 games a year based on what you saw last Saturday night...............................................................

Yes. For three reasons. The Dogs have real community support in Darwin and the NT. The players, based on their experience, handle the conditions better than their opposition. The club makes a good $ out of it. I know that may rattle some cages in Victoria, but think about interstate members, this is the only time of the year they get to see the club.

2. Was there genuine enthusiasm shown by the locals towards our club...................................................................................

There certainly was.

3. What was the crowd split. Were the majority following the Dogs,Blues or impartial just happy to see a game of AFL footy.................................

I would say the crowd was 70 - 30 in support of the dogs. But also they supported Carlton if they played good football - which they did in patches.

Have to agree 100%. I would say the only thing that will bring the Darwin matches undone is if we play against a lot stronger teams (eg port last year) and get hammered. I think we need to nurture it. We only have 200 or so members in the NT. WIth a few more wins I think we can increase that.

congratualtions to the doggies staff who put on the show - slick and well run. As I said last time it would have been great if there had been some ex players (or some of the coaching panel - that may be pushing it though) there before the match.

WAS ANYONE ELSE AT THE GAME OR DINNER - I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN YOUR THOUGHTS

PS - THE DOGGIES SUPPORTER THEY ALWAYS SHOW ON TV AT THE VIC GAMES (THE BIG GUY) WAS THERE - HE HAD A SMILE ON THE DIAL

Big Dave from the cheersquad, the highest profile non celebrity supporter the dogs have.

For what it is worth, Dipper made comments before we had played a game in Darwin about the fact the Bulldogs have great support in the schools in the NT (he had done a few clinics). Also a friend of a friend is currently teaching in the Darwin and echoes that sentiment.

Ted Whitten spent a lot of time in the N.T so the Bulldogs have apparently always had a big following in N.T.

EJ was an annual honoured guest at the Tiwi Islands GF. They played the game the way EJ loved it to be played. Full of skill and audacity.

Was at the game. We have a lot of support from the locals and are the second team for those who have long standing other allegiances. It's a great experience. Book early for next year.
