I have posted this list in a previous thread and think that it makes the number 6 pick look pretty average.

Since 1998 the number 6 pick has been
1998-Murray Vance (5 career games for Carlton!!!!)
1999-Damian Cupido
2000-Dylan Smith
2001-Ashley Sampi
2002-Steven Salopek
2003-Kepler Bradley
2004-Tom Williams
2005-Beau Dowler
2006-Mitch Thorp
2007-David Myers

Not one of these players would I definetely want on Carlton's list (a couple of maybes).

I think it is worth trading the pick for someone established and half decent that can get us over the line in the next 2 to 3 years.

Yeh i remember when Carlton drafted Murray Vance. Him being a Carlton supporter, me and him always have a bit of a chuckle about it.

Salopek is a gun makes my thread re trading for Stanton look good to me

Trust me, its going to take a lot more than that to make it look good ;)

I suspect u only watch Carlton games because to be honest writing what you did makes me cringe.

Stanton would be in our top half a dozen players with ease. For starters his is Essendons best player behind Matty L, and last time I checked they beat us twice.

And I suspect you don't watch junior footy because there are a few running around you wouldn't swap for Stanton :)

I wouldn't have thought M Lloyd is Essendons best player ?!?!?!
If you think Stanton is worth Pick 6 you have sh*& for brains !!!!!

Yet Carlton's record of trading away our top picks is arguably even worse than that list, with only 1 player picked with our first pick even making it to 50 games (see rehash of earlier article below):

So we're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Fine. Pick 6 is a dud. But look at pick 7s - Bartel, Selwood, Palmer etc

Just a matter of getting things right.

PS - Salopek is a gun

I think you're onto something here! We should definitely trade our pick 6 for pick 7. But seeing how successful pick 7 is we'd have to throw something in to sweeten the deal. Any ideas?

We may as well hang on to pick 6. Using the OP logic we'd be lucky to land a mouldy old sandwich for it anyway.

Code:
___Pick 5___ ____Pick 7____
Micheal Stevens	Josh Carr
Leigh Brown	Danny Roach
Mcdougall	Laurance Angwin
Xavier Clarke	David Hale
Jarrad Mcveigh	Andrew Mackie
Brock Mclean	Kane Tenace
Lance Franklin	Jordan Lewis
Pendlebury	Patrick Ryder
Travis Boak	Joel Selwood
Jarrad Grant	Rhys Palmer

Since 2001, the only players I wouldn't want at Carlton taken at 5 and 7 would be Clarke and Tenace. Still too early to judge Grant, but every other player has shown promise/is a proven performer.

Whilst pick 6 has been lackluster, it's got more to do with the judgement of the recruiter than the quality at that selection. For what it's worth, the only pick 6 taken since 02 that I'd write off is Bradley. Salopek is a very good player, Williams and Myers have shown some good talent, while the Hawthorn boys are unproven.

Very interesting how picks 5 and 7 seem to produce some guns.

Although I wouldn't say Angwin (eccy head) I would want back on Carlton's list.

I sort of do hope we keep pick 6 and reverse the trend of the list I posted but if we can make a good trade for it then why not?

Example
Fisher and pick 6 for Ryan O'Keefe

Mate if you want to get a Victorian representative you have to give them somthing!!!!

Fisher will never represent Victoria and pick 6 is a roll of the dice.
