We lost, and we'll have *******s trolling this board for the next few days to tell us about it, but I can't be alone in saying how proud I am of the way the boys fought it out tonight. With barely a fit player on the bench for the entire second half they took it right up to a top 8 team and almost pulled off a famous victory. Had we done it, it would have been one of the great games but the fact that we came so close against such well stacked odds is a reason to believe that there is light at the end of this awful season.

Heard on the radio that Bell is ok and might even play next week (!) but that Davey is gone for the season and Holland is probably gone permanently.

Shame, then, that so many of our fans didn't bother to show up. I don't give a **** if it's an away game and you have to fork out $20 to get in - show some respect to a champion of the club

Very proud of the team that came out in the 2nd half. Bell going down early ignited them, but just ran out of legs in the last.
As for the team that showed up in the first half...it was the Melbourne we've seen for most of this year, and extremely disappointing given the night and lead-up to it.

Had tears in my eyes by the end of the game, not out of disappointment but through pride and love for this club.

If only we had more fans like us guys. The team were gallant, playing for the jumper, playing for Neita with no where to rest or hide. And they did all they could.

Melbourne are one team I can't get a handle on, obviously you don't have your best list on the park. I like Newton, he'd surely be the successor to Neitz. But it must be frustrating (hell I know) that Melb can play so badly for some parts of the game and so well in other parts.

Oh and as for the crowd. I was honestly expecting 70,000. 40k of them, given the time of year and the fact that they're collingwood, and 30k of us, given, oh I dunno...neitz's 300? Just over 40,000 and someone wasn't pulling their weight. From where I sat I don't think we were outnumbered 10 to 1, but to those dees fans who didn't go and realistically could've - shame, shame, shame. Hand in your voting privelages and rights to finals tickets forever.

Our supporters who failed to attend the match missed what turned out to be a really entertaining game of football. We lost but I'm happy beacuse the boys showed some fight and real effort. They put the hard yards in.
Win or lose when they give 100% I'm happy.

I'm proud but filthy. The first half effort was pathetic and cost us the game. The second half effort was magnificent, especially considering the odds. I thought Neitz was sensational and put in a real typical peformance for his 300th. Also gutted for Dutchy who will likely finish his career with horrible injuries in a fantastic act of desperation. And, as metioned by others, was really disappointed there wasn't a 70,000 crowd befitting the occasion. But I'm happy I went and saw Neita's 300th, even though yelling has given me a headache.

Yeh weak crowd. I saw the rain coming in and i just imagined countless Melbourne "supporters" turning round their Range Rovers and heading back to the comforts of home.

First half was abysmal. Second half inspirational.

After Byrons goal in the third i was going so nuts my head almost fell off.

i went last night. Fact is u can say ur proud because they stepped up after Bell got knocked out but where were they before that? Weak as P!ss Neitz showed up in the first half but was anyone else out there? What is with Dees playing dismal halves of quarters? Anyway hopefully we get a coach who has some guts and gives it to the players that unless they put their head over the ball there out.

Time for us to delist a lot of players as well. 9 of our listed players are over 30.

By the way anyone see how useless Jeff White was again last night? Half time the hit outs favoured Pies 22 - 12. Wow Jeff White you were against 2 useless ruckman, and even they muscled you out and got in a better position. When are we going to get a RUCKMAN!!??

WHite has been one of our best players this season, give hima break. He played a bad game

Neitz has been playing with debilitating injuries and so cant turn, kick and run properly. Give him a rest for the last few games and give him one more year. THe young forwards arent up to it yet and need Neita there

Bate should not been playing. Obviosuly injured and couldnt run at all. Hence he had no effect on the game. This guy wil be a star though

Neitz should stay on and as Captain. Our forwardline and team is directionless without him and he's not nearly as bad as you suggest.
From what I heard last nite, White copped a heavy corky, which is a killer blow for a short leaping ruckman. I don't remember him even rucking in the last quarter. He would be better value to keep than trade, even if he becomes the backup ruckman.

I think the first half showed our lack of coaching, the players had no idea how to play even if the effort was below the required 110%. I also think they would have come back even if Bell wasn't injured.

There was quite a bit to be proud about in that second half. I left the game feeling pretty empty, but yeah, quite proud.

And Neitz has in no way, shape of form 'lost' it. Yes, his form is down, but he did some nice things off the ball yesterday. I still want him at the club next year, and I have no doubt that he will be.
