Moloney was traded to the Dees. We went for Bolton but Sydney traded for him didn't they?

Bolton went in the PSd, but he priced himself out of us taking him. We were keen on him, but (a) couldnt affford him and (b) he refused to go to us. He was always going to Sydney.

The PSD is a non-event. It only exists as a legal mechanism to stave off restraint of trade law suits. The AFL has advice that they need to allow a mechanism for out of contract players to move clubs.

The analysis is flawed. We used the PSD to get Simmonds. We went to Freo and said trade him too us or we will use the number 1 pick in the PSD to claim him for nothing. Splendid use of the bargaining chip.

The PSD draft (apart from the occasional uncontracted player) is basically about taking someone who has trained with the club and impressed. Someone you don't think you will be able to rookie.

If anything using the PSD draft can be somewhat against your will. We had to use the PSD to take Matt White because Collingwood were sniffing around him. We didn't think Collingwood would pass on him in the rookie draft. Instead of being on the rookie list where he can have a 1-year, half-wage contract he ends up on the senior list with a 2-year, full-wage deal.

Numbers taken in the PSD
2003 - 7
2004 - 12
2005 - 8
2006 - 10
2007 - 9

When you consider that since the WCE took Andrew Donnelly in the 1996 PSD - the only other player they have taken was Troy Wilson in 2001 ... well perhaps we have been over-utilising the PSD.

While the RFC may not have picked up the best players, they are no worse than many other clubs.

Recruiting is not the problem, it is player development. All of the players listed here as having been 'missed' would likely have become hacks had they been drafted by the RFC.

the psd works if you can get a player to come home etc

eagles comparison is rubbish, they have been regular finalists so its not as if they have been in a good position to get a top player

the bottom clubs need to use it to their advantage

:)DISMISS the choice of Mal Michael at pick number 2 (either dodgy or genius, depending which way you look at it).

Granted Kingsley has been pretty much a non-event, has Cain Ackland, Matthew Clarke, Josh Thurgood, Ben Ross, Adam Cockshell, Chris Bryan or Cameron Cloke been world beaters.

I think not!

PSD is a non-event!

Apologies for my misjudgement phoenix as some names mentioned were actually late draft picks or trades. But there is no excuse for overlooking the lad who smashed us in the Ruck back in R1 while Kingsley was nursing another niggling injury!

I assume you're talking about Cameron Cloke.

The bloke who was average since and then did his shoulder? , no better than KK.:confused:

And the Saints came an agreement with Matthew Clarke who had retired, we had no right to pick him up.

we were always going for bolton
but he said he wouldnt play for us ( good decision on his part )
and frawley said why pick someone who doesnt want to be part of us

probaly the only thing he ever got right

remember years back we picked brett chalmers and he wouldnt play for us just stayed in adelaide

once delisted posted a letter to everyone telling them he would only play for the pies
got rubbed out for a year or 2 for doing so
then ended up with adelaide and wasnt very good anyway

I think hes talking about cain ackland ?

I'm actually talking about Cameron Cloke who played a blinderthat day and (despite his shoulder injury) would choose him over KK every time! Unsure if Ackland was playing that day.

Ahh dont no about a blinder mate...
Cameron Cloke had 6 disposals 3 marks and 15 hitouts.
And yes Cain Ackland played he had 5 disposals 0 marks and 16 hitouts.

They were only competiting against Pattison and Polak in the ruck though,
and it was the first time pattison had really played ruck for that amount of time.
