I am really disapointed with our trade week, i would have loved to secure Prismall. Now that our two big targets warnock and prismall are gone what does this mean for PSD? We wont have enoguh cash for O'Keefe. I would of loved to do a 'VEALE' deal with freo to get warnock aswell to push him into the PSD.

Who is out of contract and our main targets? Is Seaby out of contract? Who are we going to take with pick one in the PSD?

Seaby is contracted, looks like we won't use the psd now, would probably rather utilise pick 67, or elevate Valenti...

Using the PSD will allow us to have other clubs de-listees and undrafted kids train with us. I'd much rather take this route than use pick 67 as we'd get a much better idea having had them train with us.

By my reckoning we have draft picks #1, 17, 19, 35, 51, 67 & 83.
At this time we have had Bode, Holland, Neitz, Weetra, White & Yze - Retired/Delisted
***Uncertain if Carroll is going to be delisted, but it appears that is what we are wanting to do.****

If we say that Carroll is delisted & paid out that will leave us with 7 vancancies on our list. (Unless someone else is delisted - Can't see who at the minute)
We will then promote Wonaeamirri from the Rookie List - leaving 6 selections.

Will be interesting to see if we use all six selections in the National Draft or wait to use our #1 selection in the PSD. We should have some idea as to who will be available in the PSD before the National Draft at least.

At the minute though I'm not sure who is out of contract & fits with our policy of being under 23 yo & having fotballing ability?

Is that the official club policy now? Hmm... I've heard that somewhere before ;)

It works pretty well if you're willing to go through a few years of pain, and seeing your old favourite players being moved on. The only difference will be that you guys won't get the same draft picks the Hawks got, with the expansion teams and the priority pick getting moved.

Well isn't this just great. We finish bottom, armed with picks, Pick 1 in PSD and an aging player in high demand (Green) yet it comes to the end of trade week and we have done nothing and have nothing left in the PSD.
Did we just think that clubs would let Prismall and Warnock waltz into the PSD for us to select. For once can the club be pro-active and get themselves out there and get someone or some picks. From the past five or so trade weeks all we have got is Ben Holland who was a fringe player at Richmond and Brent Moloney who we payed over the odds for.

Now PSD Pick 1 means nothing to us, in past years when clubs have got Nick Stevens and the like we will get what? A kid who wasn't in the best 60 odd of the National Draft. Until Melbourne actually grow some balls and be ruthless in their recruiting, trading and all other areas we will go nowhere.

For what its worth i'm glad we didn't get Warnock and/or Prismall.

Warnock was demanding a ridiculous salary for someone who has not established themselves as a top class player yet.

Prismall has a knee reco. and doesn't really offer us anything different from what we've already got.

Neither wanted to come here so stuff them...

We have 3 picks inside the top 20 in one of the best drafts of all-time.

I think we have plenty to be optimistic about with our hand at the draft table...

Its all well and good to trade players and try and get good players in. The fact is (as shown by the 6 trades) trades are getting harder and harder for clubs to do. Clubs dont want to pay over the odds and want win wins, which is very rare.

Its also easy to say that we should get rid of our duds for other players and picks but the reality is we finished last, why would other clubs want our duds?
The fact is prismall and warnock wanted to go elsewhere, that cannot be our fault, its just a mark of our current position. The great thing about footy is the swings and roundabouts, in 3-4 years we might be the ones where players want to come and not disregard like this year.

Since this year they have introduced the law allowing delisted players to nominate for the ND, the PSD is basically redundant.

I basically think that most teams will use the PSD like we did last year for Martin. Players that they don't want to use a ND pick on or they're willing to see if anyone else wants, then they'll throw them a lifeline with a pick in the PSD.

I wouldn't be suprised to see the AFL get rid of the PSD in a year or 2 anyway, no real need for it anymore.

Tom Lonegan is out of contract. should we chase him.? would fill the hole at FF until Watts is ready?

Wona & Valenti were both rookies not from the PSD, so it was only Martin. While i rate him, 1 player is hardly cleaning up.

We're likely to grab a few rookies, but unless we know of someone we want before the national draft who'll be going to the PSD, then i'd be suprised if we used any picks. We'll know if we've got any plans to use the PSD depending on how many picks we use in the ND

I agree with you M4C. The PSD sometimes can last 15 minutes in total with only a handful of clubs making picks. I think we'll go for rookies , judging by the approach thus far taken by the MFC. 2009 will see a very young MFC take the field , and I'm actually excited by that, even though short term we will find it hard going. But , long term, it will reap dividends.

Just like it would've been used before the Hawks decided to run with it. I've got a feeling yours wasn't the first team to ever go with a youth policy.

So the only uncontracted players who were mentioned during trade week are O'Keefe (too expensive) and Carr (back to Port anyway)?

Excellent timing.

Did you see him in the GF? He was woeful...and i've never really been impressed by him.

I feel bad for the guy losing his kidney and all,

but he only adds depth to a list as a backup player...he is a quality VFL player,

we already have one of those in Juice Newton, i dont think we need another one ATM:thumbsu:

Yes because he was the only one that was woeful, I'd definitely take him given the chance in the PSD.

Lonergan>>>Hawkins for mine.
