Just wondering if anyone knows exactly which clubs will be participating in the PSD, and what number pick we will end up with, given that some clubs will be passing on their pick.

Apparently Schofield has been given permission to train with Freo, and in fact may have been at the training session down at Freo Oval this morning. However, he's still no guarantee to be at FFC next year - who else is ahead of us that may see Schofield end up on another club's list for 2005?

Kangas expressed an interest in him, but it has been reported that he has priced himself out of their market.

Makes you wonder how much Freo are going to pay!

With all due respect to the Kangaroos, I don't think it would take him much to price himself out of their range.

Seems a foregone conclusion that Schofield will be a Docker next year...

That doesn't sound good, I'd only take him on the cheap!

I would like to know exactly how much he is on, I have this morbid fear we are going to be over paying him for TWO years, thurs harming our chances of hanging on to some of the kids when their contracts expire at the end of next season.

murphy and Dunn will be coming out of contract next year

It might be a front ended contract with a larger amount this year and reduced next year.....who knows??

Quite honestly, why would you bother with Schofield? Not stirring or anything, just seems like such a waste of time to go with a borderline 22 midfielder with only 2 years left when you have kids like Dunn, Haines, Dodd, Siegert around the mark who need a run and would be much better in the long term.

Connolly has some pressure on him this year. may have influenced the schofield decision

Got a feeling you're right, which would have influenced his decision to get rid of all our draft picks for Carr as well.

Can't blame him really, if we're 4-7, or even 5-6 at halfway he's gorrrrne.

I'd add Gilmore to that list, but your sentiments are exactly the same as mine.

I dont really understand this thinking. He is the best coach we've ever had. We have a very tough draw for the beginning of the year and anything can happen in footy.

Can't agree with you there.

If we have a 50% split at the half way, that would not be too bad, something to build on. Less than close to a 50% split (eg. 3 / 8 ) rumbles will start, but I reckon he would still have the rest of the season to pull his nuts out of the fire.

The upside to all this, is that 2004 was a year of lost opportunity, the club will learn from it, the club will go forward. Alot of lessons have been learnt. eg. amount of player latitude allowed.

As for Schofield, the only reason I can think of getting him is for insurance. The young kids may be still a season or two away, he will provide a ready made bridge to plug injury gaps.

Having Schofield ready to go should be good incentive for some young buck wanting to make a name for himself to work harder.

If you have a competitive spirit, surely you should be thriving on some actual competition.

Our football club has gone for so long giving a game to any young kid that could walk that our perspective on these things is all arsey-versy.

Depth is good. How you get that depth doesn't really matter. What matters is how the freaks on your list react to it.

If they give up dispirited or start hawking themselves around to any old sucky club that'll have them because they're not in our starting 22, then I have but three words for them.

See you later.

Get Schofield - play him if he's good, drop him if he isn't.

Seems simple to me. The kids are still there. They still have the opportunity to get a gig.

It's up to them to make it and take it. Having some old Poort reject knocking at the door should only just make them hammer the ********ing door down.

Firstly dont want this to sound like the first post on who our new coach will be in 2005..but there isnt exactly an abundance of coaches in waiting.

Eade, Wallace, Pagan, Matthews stable at their clubs, so really we're stuck with choosing assistants again which we wont do unless we have no choice.

CC will get an extension for 2005\6 unless we finish alot worse in 2004.

I think CC has done a great job and I hope they keep with him, so don't get me wrong here, but there are a couple of Brisbane assistants that I would be comfortable giving a gig too in Odonnell & Creswell! Odonnell has been Leighs apprentice for yonks now, and Creswell did a great job with the Geelong midfielders last season. And let's not look past Mark Harvey.

So what's this nonsense about a lack of quality coaches in waiting?

I'm not saying that's what i'd do, i'm just saying that's what I think will happen if we're up sh*t creek halfway through the season.

He's in the last year of his contract, and he aint going to get an extension unless some real improvement is obvious. If it's not then the board will probably get rid of him before the end of the season, particularly if we're still playing soft unaccountable footy.

And importantly, there are going to be a lot of ropeable supporters if we're 4-7 halfway through.

There's one right under your noses as good if not better than any of those!

Are you Broadbrige's brother or something?

You've been harping on about him even before we got him, calling him our next coach etc.

If i'm mistaken feel free to correct, but you've never once mentioned his name, only ever semi-secretively dropped the hint. Why?
