There are narratives and there are narratives. One narrative tells us Putin is evil and possesses powers which can determine elections anywhere in the world.
Another narrative says maybe the USA is thoroughly evil exercising its super powers across the globe by whatever means are at its disposal. But Putin arrested and opposition leader and had him detained over night...and a Russian dude beat himself to death in the USA.

This is the Anglo narrative - that same narrative that colonized, slaughtered and enslaved around the world.
The same people who will get all upset if you say something racially derogative - have no issue what so ever in destroying an entire country and its people.
4-8 million refugees - no problem but offensive comments or a Russian arresting an opposition leader - my this is unacceptable.

The Israeli Lobby directly influences every US election down to senate and congressional levels. Every US Presidential candidate must speak and seek approval from AIPAC - Israeli body - and not Russians are Us. Who but an Israeli could demand to speak in the US Congress as Netanyahu did without Obama's invitation? We also know the Saudi's run around with their oil money to influence senators, congressman and presidents. Both Israel and Saudi Arabia enjoy special US relationships. Russia on the other hand enjoy a raft of economic sanctions implemented by the US and its many semi-independent allies.

Putin arrested an opposition leader and then released him. Whilst, the benevolent US continues to play nuclear chicken with North Korea. The USA continue to illegally occupy Syrian Territory. The USA continue to dictate terms to the entire world - with military basis in 150 countries - But Putin arrested an opposition leader overnight.

Goodness - the mental derangement is daily getting worse on our BF boards.

The hypocrisy of the average western citizen can only be excused due to some kind of chemical imbalance.

Putin is a campaigner but the campaigner Russia needed. As Russia needed a hard campaigner to stop anarchy and the establishment of nuclear rogue states.

Unfortunately like all campaigners, he will over stay his welcome.

The whataboutism opus.

A thing of terrible beauty.

It was always about him and him alone.

Nah - it’s the mote in your eye you forgot. Or, was it a log?

Either way, I’m sure you get the point. See an optician!

I get the point that for some bizarre reason some people hate negative news about Putin.

Part of my plan to seize power here is to have a close friend and secret conspirator as the opposition leader.

They will get arrested a lot, beaten up occasionally when we need to revalidate their place meanwhile they are approached by the real dangerous opponents, the ones the public don't see that could organise violent insurgency. Then those real opposition members are quietly bumped off.

Do you think Putin isn't smart enough to control both of the public sides of government?

And others love to grasp at every straw of negativity directed at Putin

He arrests and murders opposition politicians, and journalists who say the wrong thing.

What is going on in your head that you think that is “a straw of negativity”?

Putin faces the largest, most powerful omnipresent villainous super power in history. And he should fight them with habeas corpus and Miranda rights?

The Russians bent the knee under Yeltsin. It won them good media abroad but poverty and exploitation at home.

We demand morality from Putun whilst we applaud or deny the ubiquitous barbarism of the Anglo world?

God bless him. He's like that fat kid you love that always eats the pie on the windowsill.

Anything you do is OK because someone else out there is worse?

Pfft.

He’s a murderer and a thief.

He stole it all, including their church.

What are you getting out of this? Your strenuous protests and defense of Putin are out of proportion.

It’s interesting, to say the least.

Putin could probably shoot someone in Red Square and you would still act like voting in Russia was real.

Well Chief - you just went ad hominem -

The reason ad hominem arguments are nonsense is that the self same attack can always be made back at the initiator. And therefore it adds nothing to the discourse.

The Russians have always had a more repressive system - before during and after the Soviet era.

This is nt ideal. Whether a more liberal approach is possible whilst still avoiding the rapaciousness of the USA led world is a very doubtful.

This threat is thoroughly understood by the average Russian.

Unfortunately, the average western citizen remains blithely ignorant or dismissive of their own governments calumny. And this more than anything else means it is extremely difficult for Russia to become less repressive.

You see how I got my point across without impugning your character - only your competence as a debater.

Navalny was a nationalist who had no qualms about using racist slurs against minorities in Russia. He was a regular speaker at far -right rallies. Then he studied under a scholarship at Yale in 2010 and returned as the poster boy for western backed opposition. It appears he became a traitor representing the interests of nations that increasingly see themselves at war with Russia. He only has very limited support, as this is how he is seen in his home nation.

Navalny gets like 1% of the vote right?

He's about as much of an opposition leader as Pauline Hanson.

AFAIK the communist party is the second biggest party in RUssia.

He is a leader in opposition to Putin.

Does the estimated potential size of a Russian presidential candidate’s vote have any bearing on arresting them?

If he was so insignificant why bother to arrest him?

Because he was breaking the law?

Protests are allowed in Russia if you organise it beforehand with authorities. He deliberately doesn't do that so he can get arrested and get credibility from it.

Dangerous criminal obviously!
