So I'm looking at buying one for the World Cup, since most of the games are overnight.

How big a HDD would I need to record two or three games overnight? (As I'd just record them overnight, watch them the next day and delete them before the next night so storing them permanantly won't be an issue)

How much am I looking at paying for one with dual digital tuners?

What type of brands should I be looking at?

I have a Beyonwiz DP-P2 which has 500Gbs.

A game of footy on OneHD that took about 220 minutes was around the 10Gb mark. Soccer's obviously shorter.

Would thoroughly recommend the unit, but requires a pretty high nerd factor in order to utilise it to its full capability. IceTV coupled with a smartphone like the iPhone makes watching what you want when you want a breeze, and I haven't really missed Foxtel since moving out on my own.

Dunno what they cost at the minute, but there are some sales on. I'd be guessing a hard haggle should get you in the low to middle $600's.

The dual HD tuner TiVo with a 1TB extender drive is the way to go. Easily the best UI of any PVR but you need internet access to obtain the guide data. The ability to rip shows off it & re-encode is a great feature too.

Cost is about $1k ($699 + $300) all up but well worth it IMO.

Any of you guys, or people reading this thread, tried to build yer own?

I use my PC with a HDTV Tuner hooked up to my 42" LCD as a recorder.

The image quality isn't as good on the HDTV tuner for the PC as it is on the TV but it does the job. My tuner is only a $40 usb stick, but if you were to spend about $150 on a PCI card tuner the quality should be just as good as the tv tuner.

I like it because I can then edit the files how ever I want straight away as it is already on my PC.

DGTEC, Model # DG-HDPVR5009. Got it from Dick Smith

Damn thats cheap, good buy, might have to look into that.
