Pyman Quits.. More About Rawlings

Robert Pyman has quit the club due to personal problems

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,7443436%5E20322,00.html

Pretty sad for Robert- Good Luck to him & his family in Adelaide, thanks for services.

<Rawlings story moved to new thread. Click here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86992 - Shinboners>

Go Roos
Presumably we now need a new assistant coach? Spider.. ooh Spider;) Though I think he was offered a possie anyway.. how about we get Blakey back:p

It's a shame Pyman is leaving, as he seems to have a good working relationship with Laidley. But, looks like we are in the market for a new assistant......any thoughts?

Last year I was hoping Wayne Schwass might have been given a coaching role of some sort (not sure if he's involved at Sydney or not), but from what I've seen and heard from him I think he would make a great assistant, and seems to communicate well and have some ideas. I guess Laidley will be looking for someone with similar beleifs to himself, and someone who he can work well with.

As for Rawlings, the club is obviously very keen, but like others have said, I hope we don't go over the top trying to match the other offers....and looks like he'll be fairly costly at the trade table too.................but we'll all know this morning. Though he's been saying all week he'll make a decision within 24 hours!!

The Horse Longmire would be another suitable candidate for the assistants role.

Back on the Rawlings topic...Jon Anderson (also a Cats fan) on 3AW this morning stated that Geelong are not so confident of signing him - after our revised offer yesterday.

I'm sure we'll all find out where he's going later today.

What about Darren Crocker from the Tigers. If we wash him, give him a good scrub down and get all the Tiger filth off him, he might be a good assistant.

Is it worth the risk....what if mediocrity is contageous? Fair chance he's caught a bad dose since being at Punt Road!

That's terrible news not so much from a club perspective but as a family & personal thing. Hope everything works out well for Robert and his family.

If there's one bloke I would want sounded out for a coaching role, it'd be Fridge Roberts. Footy smarts on that bloke were unbelievable, he played "best option" footy all the time (and didn't he coach a flag side in Queensland this year?).

Firstly, Best of luck to Robert and his family.
Secondly, I agree with Darky that we should definitely consider Fridge for the role. I remember an interview with Pagan when he was asked who he thought would be a good coach after finishing his playing career and he nominated Roberts as exceptionally capable and thinking person. He stayed with the club for couple of years after retirement and had positions in marketing and was a runner for a little while. I hope he can lure him back again.

Best wishes to Robert Pyman and his family. It seems to me that they would have known about their daughter's illness at least sometime during this season, so it's a credit to Pyman that he stayed with us until the end of the season. It would have been totally understandable if he left earlier.

As for his successor, I would agree with Darky and D-Man that Mark Roberts would make a great assistant coach. I remember that Pagan once said that he was used as a de facto assistant coach when he was playing with us - he said that Roberts had a great understanding of what was happening on the field. However, the one thing that would stop him from returning to Arden Street is that I think he had burnt a few bridges at the club - hence his sudden departure from the club last season.

Last season, I thought that we should have made a big push to get Tony Liberatore onto the coaching panel. He's done the business at Box Hill and he would be ideal to get the solid work ethic into our young kids. I doubt we'd be able to get him, but I'd love to have Libba at Arden Street.

One from left field would be Marcus Ashcroft from the Lions. He's just retired, he's seen everything from the wooden spoons at the Bears to premiership glory at the Lions. He always worked hard and he's played under many different coaches.

and then there is J Blakey to consider. If we were able to get the Horse it would be great. Get the feeling he will be a senior coach before too long.

Its a pity this isn't seperated into 2 threads because more Jade Rawlings stuff is insignificant next to what the Pyman family is going through

Best of luck to them and our thoughts and prayers go with them.

get well soon !!

Done.

Just a shame that I can't split peoples posts and make two more threads: one on Pyman and his family and one on his successor.

all the best to robert pymans little daughter, children are the biggest fighters as many times they are unaware of just how serious there illness may be, it is best that they be by the family with all this going on.

Opps sorry didnt realise this was why he was/is leaving.

I would prefer to get the horse back.....roos and him have done wonders for Sydney. Libba would also be a very good pick up considering what he's done in Box hill. Blakes is a bit raw i reckon first year out only in an assistant role albeit at Brisbane. And schwatta hasn't had a coaching role of any sort yet....

I read the same thing about Mark Roberts about what Pagan said about him.

Also agree with with Marcus Ashcroft about beinga current player retire to coach.

Best of luck to Robert and his family.

I've heard Mark Roberts call a couple of Brisbane games this (last) season, and his knowledge of the game and the various gameplans is quite astute. On a couple of occassions it was like Matthews was listening to the call, as soon as Mark made a suggestion, the move was made on field and nine times out ten it worked in Brisbane's favour. I think "The Fridge" would be a great pick up, if we can get him.

I heard that aswell. It was the Brizzy game where got got belted and i noticed that aswell. Would love it if he came back to North.

My thoughts also go out to the Pyman family as well.
I like most of you people remember Deni$ Pagan saying Roberts if given a chance would make a great coach, so if we could grab him that would be great, if not I reckon Schwatta even though has no coaching experience, just hearing him as a special coments commentator the last year or so does have some brains plus he was great player for us for a number of years and played it hard.

As much as I would love to see an ex-Roo at the club I think that with the coaching staff being so young that an experienced guy should be pursued. Steve Malaxos has left Sydney with big wraps so I wouldn't be disappointed if he headed to Arden St.

I neglected to wish Robert Pyman and his family (particularly his daughter) all the best for the future in my first post.....hope everything works out ok for them.

As for the new assistant, I think any of the people suggested here would be worthy replacements.....but I still like Schwatta!
