Outstanding work.

You've got to hand it to Ben Keays, he's been there since the early days of the rebuild with what looked like a pretty limited skill set. Unlike a lot of others who fell by the wayside, he's developed into an outstanding role player, doing a lot of unrewarded running week in week out. He's also turned into an attacking weapon with his improved kicking helping him hit the scoreboard more often.

Seeing this in the crowd brought home that he's become a bit of a spiritual leader as well.

He's another that would richly deserve a medal around his neck.
It's amazing he's become one of our most reliable set shots too. Kicked 18.4 (with 5 no scores) from set shots this year and is in the top 25 league wide (from at least 10 set shots). Running better than Fogarty, Thilthorpe, Rachele and Rankine, with only ANB and Tex with a better percentage.

Always last to finish set shot practice at training.

Felt he has always been a pretty good kick for goal. His problem with kicking is that his brain is about 2 seconds ahead of his body. 100% lacks composure. It's far less of a weakness in the forward line than the midfield.

Has been absolutely amazing since moving forward thought.

How we win:

- Soligo doing his best inside to outside work. Even his handballs to space from contest are effective as we have our defence set up.

- Keays and Fogarty up forward are excellent 1 on 1 players- give them a chance, Keays can outmark and outwork most medium defenders. Fogarty has that real burst speed and he is hard to bring down.

- Hinge and Milera out of defence but also part of that 80M defensive wall once we trap the ball inside 50M. Their ability to hit targets coming back inside will be invaluable.

- Preventing clean ball from contest, if guys like Sidebottom, Crisp, DeGoey, Daicos x2 and Pendlebury are allowed space we are in trouble. Its just about pressure in close. North had way too much clean footy from contest.

- Worrell in the D50, he can take Elliot 1 on 1 in the air and on the lead if we need. Bond, if he plays needs to stay on the ground, he goes well in close and I saw him do a push up with a player on his back in round 23.

- Dan Curtin has to get some form back on the wing, his speed and aerial power are invaluable, especially with kicking out of defence.

- Zac Taylor needs to be involved in the game, his 10 touches is worth 20 from an average player.

- Peds, draw those free kicks. Don't go for marks, don't try and play defensively, just terrier the ball and get a high tackle. Stage, act, flop and pull a stupid face while doing so. 2 Goals is more than a win. I have a feeling he might be sub and bought on if the game is tight.

I'm hoping the week off helps our younger players up a bit, we need them to win us the game. Our older guys will do the job but the kids have to finish the work.

I honestly do not have a good feeling about this game. We only just beat them last time and were, frankly, lucky to win. I suspect we'll go down by a fairly slim margin. That said, I can see us winning fairly comfortably too. I simply think a close loss is more likely.

The last time we met a team after being lucky to beat them earlier in the season, we belted them by 99 points ;)

I am surprisingly calm TBH. It being Tex's 300th is actually quite adventagous IMO.

Shifts the focus of the fans/media and the playing towards playing for a club legend, rather then the nerves of playing a first final.

Some will say its a distraction. I'd call it a welcomed distraction from the nervous energy that consumes players.

You're right, we were lucky. However, consider that many things went in Collingwood's favour in that game, and yet, they were still unable to win.

They won't have the advantage of a longer break over us this time, and we won't be carrying Murphy and Schoenberg.

Crows by 6 goals. On a dry night after a proper rest (unlike last time), we should be winning. Use that energy from Tex’s 300th and ANB’s 200th and put them to the sword.

Geelong in a prelim at home two weeks later. Brisbane in a granny.

Well thought out :thumbsupv1:, Nicksy, but d'ya think it was smart telling the world what your plans are ?? :confusedv1:

(I'm just glad you didn't mention Curtin's marking power.
That kid has great hands ... uhhhh ... ooops :rolleyesv1:).

TBH I actually don't agree with the take that 'the Pies were unlucky and deserved the win'. They played 1 behind the ball and we responded. Its their coaches fault for not recognising our interceptors were all over them, and they could have had 100+ I50's and not put up much more of a score then they did.

Don't forget the Pies put up 33 points in the 1st quarter, and only scored 23 for the rest of the game. In fact it was 51-23 after quarter time. If we played 4 quarters the pies might have only score 5 goals for the game.

And in terms of a few umpiring calls that didn't go their way. I mean, wrong team for anyone to complain about that with. Come back to us when umpiring calls almost directly cost you 5 wins in less than 2 seasons (including the time Dawson got hit in the face in a marking contest, drawing blood, 40m out directly in front against Collingwood for a shot after the siren to win the game.... Nothing to see here, play on).

The odds that Collingwood will have 9000 inside 50s again would be very low, that was very strange. Keep that number down and it should be a good night.

Keane's 50th for AFC as well.
