From what I can remember the bears came in and aflq did a restructure and omitted mayne.
The ongoing legal battle was expensive.
Made no sense as they had close to the best facilities as was shown by the amount of finals played there.
They also had the best nightclub on Sunday nights after footy.
They played out of Kedron for a few seasons but Kedron wouldn't give and said no to the idea of mayne taking over the lease.
Not sure when they landed at wolves.
But probably there for the long haul unless an existing ground or new
Facilities come available.
Not a lot of open usable space on the inner North.
Thanks very interesting and not right

Mayne have an excellent system and continue to excel.
If they had decent facilities the could quite easily play state league.
Round one results can be deceiving but I think it's playing out as expected.

Council under Jim Soorley wouldn’t renew the lease and they handed ground to St Margarets private girls, on the back of losing the lease on Perry park to soccer in 19
69. Moved to Everton in 2005 and place was pretty ordinary. Its a wonder they made to 100 years.

Definitely not having a crack at them as I said my memory isn't that great these days.
But from what they have had to endure over the years it's impressive that they keep sitting on top of plie.
It seems a bit unfair that clubs of lesser quality have been handed multi million dollar facilities given the history and contribution they have given to Qld footy.

Just saw the Kings team list come across my facebook time line. Gilhooley in the ressies? Holna on the bench for the ressies? Interesting decision indeed as i think they were class in the qfa days and their seniors desperate for an early win in the qafl.

My Kings really struggling in the QAFL, they cant find their feet and the exclusion of Gilhooley does seem strange.
Taking more of an interest in this competition and some interesting results in the first 2 rounds. As expected seems to be everyone chasing Mayne with Springwood taking the opening of the season easy before they ramp up after the June run of Byes. Uni with some good wins seemingly adding an ex grange player week by week. Caloundra seem a solid side. Sandgate with some huge inclusion’s yesterday which should see them far more competitive then the opening round suggested, had grave fears for them after seeing that result. Any news on if those players are permanent inclusions? Moreton look set to continue their rebuild. Not sure about Hinterland think the upcoming few weeks will be more tell tale of where they sit.

don't know if its recruiting, junior footy connections or mates finding mates - but UQ have a strong list of ex QAFL players, some quite good ones and some who were on the fringes of their QAFL club selection but are quality players at this level.

Will be hard to challenge Mayne, but they seem like the most obvious challenger.

anyone know why there seems to be an exodus at grange?

Think the general consensus ive heard around local footy coming out of grange is the coach is very intense, and the program isnt appealing for young blokes who want to play with their mates, from all reports university always been a good place for those blokes who also want to play a decent level of footy. Even a few years ago when they were down in the dumps and getting thumped by my Kings they had the likes of Crozier and Macanawai suiting up for them.

If you have an arsole control freak no wonder there leaving

Fair assessment - Grange have also had a lot of off ground turmoil the last 2 years some directly around the coach and a former President pulling the pin.

Tips for this weekend.

Uni beat Hinterland (by 3+ goals)
Caloundra Springwood (either side win by less than 10 points) Should be a very evenly poised match.
Mayne by 10+ goals.

Ok maynes win today was incredible not only for the score but for having 21 one point players.
Whatever they are doing needs to be franchised.
No dickhead policy, good people involved and the two pathways work together. It's a club that sees players also get involved on the committee and coaching.

Yea when you put it into basic terms like that it's not a difficult formula is it. Good on them - always been a good humble footy club.

Wow Hawks in big trouble this year without those FIFO players, Springwood and Caloundra good battle as expected. Am I reading it right that University & Nambour were level at 3qtr time? What happened in 4th?!

UQ flexed their muscles in the final Q. Very impressive.

This comp this year could have some big blow outs.
Mayne will inflict multiple 20+ goal wins. Such a strong outfit, heads and shoulders above the rest of the comp. Might as well start engraving their name on the cup now.

The bottom half the of the ladder will be interesting.
Hinterland will surely rise, having played only the 2 games, and both against strong teams.

Could be a long year for Moreton and Sandgate, both will do well to get a win against another side besides each other.

What has actually happened at moreton? They made finals year 1 of Div 1, then they’ve dropped off significantly.

Is it a location thing? A culture thing? A recruitment thing?

I’m not having a swipe, I think they’re in a great location to grow as quick as the houses in the area, but it just isn’t happening.

I do wonder the location thing as well perhaps. Redcliffe in the level below smashing everyone. Sandgate not too far away in same comp. Pine Rivers also in Div 2. But hinterland and Caloundra are far away enough it shouldn’t be an issue. Could also be the old guard of moretons glory years are all gone and they haven’t rebuilt well?

From the outside it looks to be a combination of factors: significant quality youth hasn't been available for a fair period, the 3-peat players largely gone, depth and then maybe some issues around location. Redcliffe's current success would be more likely to affect Sandgate IMO.
MB would likely benefit from stronger youth programs at clubs like Narangba, Bribie, Glasshouse etc. There have been a couple of great young players move on to QAFL also.
Another deterrent (albeit left-field) could be it's harder to attract players in a 7 team comp where 1 team is invincible, 2 others looking almost impossible to compete with from the bottom few spots.

It's a bit of a micro issue of the macro problem the GWS Giants suffer from - it may be a very fast growing region like western Sydney but a lot of the population is very rugby league centric such as the polynesian community and even more so now the Dolphins are in the NRL. From what I understand a very financial footy club though and obviously a great facility.
It would be very difficult to recruit players because they are invariably travelling north or south 30min+. I know Redcliffe are going well right now but it is in Div 2 so hard to compare their progress with MB's.

Weekend tips:

Mayne by (pick your margin)
Springwood should be too strong at home
Caloundra by 5+ goals.

Easy weekend of tips, margins are the only thing you could argue on.

Wow 245 point final margin, that’s just ridiculous. Whats even the point in playing the rest of the season, just playing for the honour to get pumped on grand final day. 28 goals between Doolan, McLean & Quin. Makes you worry what they’ll do next week to Moreton. Were Mayne just that good or were Hinterland just that bad? Still looked like an okay hinterland team in
