Hey mobs, I did all this
Step 1, are you on Vista? If so, good luck and good night.
If you are on Windows 7, apparently it might work, though I'd guess you'd need to run in the XP mode that Windows 7 is supposed to be able to run in.

Step 2, check to see if you have OLDDOS already on your computer.
Start bar > Run... > cmd {enter}
Now type qbasic {enter}
if it works, it works, if it doesn't you need OLDDOS as well as QBasic

Both are at the following download page :http://qooty.footypedia.com

Assuming you need OLDDOS :
Create a folder on your computer (perhaps called Qooty) and download OLDDOS into it. Once downloaded, run OLDDOS and it'll unpack a bunch of stuff.

Double click QBasic.exe that you can now see there, if it works, yay.

I have extracted all the files from olddos and I can open qbasic, what's next?

Never mind, found the file Q, Qooty opens but this comes up

Program Files Missing (UTILS Folder)
Please report the comments of errorlog.dat to Qooty support.
Qooty cannot run without these in place. Press a key...

The game itself that you downloaded is just the program, it has no relevance to the Sweet FA at all ... its just a program you can use to run a league in the same way that others have used it to run seasons of the Sweet FA.

If you wanted to look back on past seasons, you'd need to get all the match files from those seasons ...

... and you'd need the latest version of Qooty which isn't released yet... give it another day or so :D

You on crack Mobs? I just want the program that sims the games, I have no interest in looking at old data. I assumed the was the "Q" file?

In your case, are you able to report the comments of errorlog.dat to Qooty support.

its nothing special much BUT it DOES include the ability to build a warehouse of stat data from multiple seasons and/or leagues :)

how do I get the comments out of the file, what program opens a .DAT file?

Yeah QBasic is not a compiled language ... the whole thing consists of pretty much "what you see is what you get" ... QOOTY is actually open source whether or not I want it to be!

Yep that's the same problem some have with Vista, and also with DOSBOX.

Unfortunately, when Vista tries to go at it from a DOS perspective, it loses the first letter of every file and folder name.

No answer to this issue, unfortunately. At least not as far as I know.

I just read this online :
Windows Vista Home Premium and above can run DOS based programs. You open it through windows using the command Prompt but you need to set the compatiability mode to either 2000, 98 or 95 and you need to disable all visual themes.

Give it a try with some research but it either appears you need to have upgraded to Vista from a previous operating system or Q.Bat has something called an "internal manifest" which doesn't allow me to run the file as an admin..

Make any sense to you?

Ooh.

The first bit is all fetta to me but the second bit ...

While I wouldn't have a clue what to do about it, it DOES sound fixable ... it would be to do with administrative permissions on your computer, or letting it know that you are logged in as admin when you use Q.BAT (I am n00b at that stuff so be gentle), or maybe ... just maybe ... the Dos files are lodged under a user profile's program files and can be moved to the Admin profile's program files????

Again, that stuff is over my head ... but I am kind of able to lick around the edges of it without biting a piece.

Where did you see a reference to the Q.Bat has something called an "internal manifest" ??? I wanna know tell me what's my scene.

eth you can only get those stats if you have all the league files.

Remember, from the Qooty site you can download Qooty. The program/game.

You can then invent leagues/clubs/seasons/fixtires/matches/results, by typing some data in, and telling matches to play.

Then you will have access to data for all the matches you have played, players you have given a run.

Someone else might download Qooty, make their own leagues/teams, run their own seasons, and they have access to their teams and players data.

You can't see their data, unless you ask them nicely, and they eMail you all their match files :)

Do you use Excel or Word? Imagine you've got Excel/Word on your computer, and the kid down the street with the stupid light brown hair also has Excel/Word. Because he is a darned nerd who spends all his time at the library, he has made a file keeping track of when he goes to the library, so he knows when to return his Justin Bieber autobiographies and newspaper clipping he likes to borrow.

You want to bash him because he's not you, so you'd love to know when he goes to the library, at what time, so you canw ait down that side lane with the piece of picket fence you want to stab him with. Maybe you could work it out from his details that he has typed into his Excel spreadsheet.

But alas you can't read that spreadsheet because, you might have Excel, but you don't have his file, that he created.

So you'd have to get his file first, which maybe he'll leave on a USB stick one day when at the library ... so if you could only work out when he goes to the library and ahhr geeze I've gone blind.

So anyways, analogies and all the post-traumatic stress of my school days out of the way, you can't see Croweater's stats, unless you went back through every thread in this subforum, and copy pasted every match stat display into its own file, saved it, and then ran Qooty and told it to collate the data.

I have been back through all those threads and collected them all, so that' why I can produce those stats. I suppose if you ask nicely I could eMail it all to you :)

It is Sweet FA (this league in this fantasy forum on this website) you are interested in? Otherwise I can help you even less. Tarks is doing RFFL. That's about it.

Okay well you should get into cahoots with Tarkyn_24 cause he is currently trying to bring RFFL files into line with standard Qooty format ( they got a bit out of line through some manual fixes of corrupted data causes by n00b Qooty use - *waves to The Majestic* :D ), and will then be attempting to achieve the same thing.

Unless of course you don't like Tarks in which case just revert back to the library and fencepaling plan! :D (*waves to Tarks, then faints from sight of blood*)

I don't have RFFL files on me, sorry :)
