Eddie better be careful what he asks for.

Might end up with more away games there instead. Or away games at Launceston or Geelong.

Etihad is just a second home ground to a Victorian club. Cant see the fuss. All Victorian clubs should easily be able to manage playing at the MCG or Etihad and not feel they are disadvantaged there. If they do feel disadvantaged then they re making excuses.

An easy fix to it all is give us our fair share of interstate home games. We constantly play away five times and play at home only four times. Give us an extra home game v an interstate team and one less v a Vic team and play it at Marvel. Bingo. Fixed.

I don't give a rats where we play our away games but I doubt even the Cats would forego a potential MCG blockbuster for a game at their (very profitable) Kardinia Park. Absolutely certain we won't ever see the Hawks (Launy) or North (Hobart) or Doggies (Ballarat) suggesting they host us at their alternate venues.

I doubt we will end up with any more games at the MCG given we play so many there already.

Whatever we gain in less home games at Etihad and more at the MCG, we will lose in more away games at Etihad (or worse) and less at the MCG.

That's a bit confused. We're contracted to play 14 (H&A) games at the G. Doubt that'll not be honoured by the AFL for the duration of our current tenancy agreement. We'll also never get less home games at Etihad but that isn't the discussion which is about who we play there.

Fair enough. We only had one home game this year v a tenant and we won it and have a good recent win loss record at the ground. So I think its an overblown topic.

Easily tweaked as I say and the best way is to play one or two more games against interstate sides there instead of the MCG. Which they hate because they never get to play at the G but shouldnt be solely up to Collingwood to resolve.

We're all sick of being treated as nongs so the media can make money

Let em stand on their own

Maybe we can get a decent 10 team competition only on free to air

And not the manufactured event we put up with now

Lets start our own comp Kerry style

Eagles
Crows
Sydney
Pies
Tigers
Cats
Blues
Dons
Lions
HAwks

The other 8 teams are just draining resources, diluting the talent pool

Home and away finals with aggregate to determine winners

Then a big day with promotion playoff curtain raiser and g/f

The rest division 2 with Tasmania and nt

TV rights are dictated by those 10 clubs in division 1

Surely now that the AFL itself is the owner of Marvel, the ‘easiest’ tweak is to have Melbourne clubs play home games at their home ground. So Collingwood play all 11 home games at the G, as do Melbourne and Richmond etc

If Geelong or Melbourne are happy to sell a couple of ‘home’ games well good luck to them.

Thats a bit contradictory of course. As the owner of the stadium surely its in their interests to schedule Collingwood and other crowd pulling teams there as much as possible................

Ultimately I think it’s a forehand conclusion that we will go back to splitting the QB gate one way or the other. Melbourne is posturing to keep it, as they should. It’s a profitable enterprise and you should never just roll over. But they must know it’s a certainly to change back to the way it was. It’s a big day for the AFL also and they want to keep both parties satisfied, no longer just the one.

It will be grubby and tacky if they use Neale Daniher and his honorable charity as an argument as to why it should remain a Melbourne home game. I hope they dont stoop to that level. This should continue strongly no matter who is wearing the dark shorts.

Would I care? Absolutely.

It's taken a new turn in recent times with the Neale Daniher 'Freeze MND' foundation, the game itself takes on a secondary meaning when you consider what is the end result. Collingwood and Melbourne continue to put on a good event for the foundation, this can only benefit proceeds towards research and finding a cure, further more entrenching their will on the day and making it an annual event. The crowd numbers never disappoint and should be close to 85,000 estimate this year.

I do think there was talk last year that if the Demons lost the sole hosting rights to this match they would consider making the MND match the home fixture. The risk they run is we might only play them once in a given year. They know they can’t afford to lose it, though I’m sure they’d still get an AFL hand out if they were short.

Stuff em. If they want to keep the gate and home game let them play against St Kilda on QB and enjoy the 55,000 crowd.

Grubby and tacky, as I said. MND is not about them. Hopefully it stays on QB.

They can still co-manage the charity side of the day even if its not a home game, I'm sure its not that hard.

The Freeze MND QB event will continue whether Collingwood is the opposition or not. Whoever they play, it's very much Melbourne's day, from the gate to the pregame to the (barracking) commentary to the conflicted umpiring. I just don't see what benefit it is to us.

Money?

We'd still pull a big crowd if it was a regular schedule season game. When Collingwood and another Victorian club are going well, attendance will be high regardless of whether it's a marquee game or not.

Even if that were true the AFL can fix that. There is no reason we should be playing against tennant clubs there.

Yeah there is - we would draw a better crowd against a tenant club than we will against an interstate team at Etihad (because some opposition supporters would actually show up).

Admission revenue aside it would also potentially boost the bottom line due to food and beverage sales, corporate bookings, etc.

It would also make zero sense for the AFL schedule two higher-drawing MCG tenants at there, as it will inevitably cost the AFL (and the clubs) money.

They also can't keep up scheduling interstate teams at Etihad against MCG tenants by default, as it's bugbear number 1A for interstate clubs (ie. hardly ever getting to play in the MCG even when they are in the thick of it at the pointy end of the ladder) and the AFL can't keep basically ignoring them.

In the end the AFL runs the show now and they'll do what it takes to make Marvel statium a more viable ongoing concern, so it is inevitable that we'll see a shift towards MCG tenants playing one or two home games against lower-drawing Victorian teams at Marvel every year and more games against interstate teams at the MCG.

It wont be a huge number mind you, but it will increase imo, as it fits in with several of the aforementioned AFL agendas.

Queens Birthday game re Collingwood v Melbourne has been a tradition,
But its changed to i am not sure what to call it a fundraiser would be a terrible thing to say as i lost a co worker to that evil disease.
I think Melbourne and Collingwood should keep this QB clash locked into there AFL seasons.

And fight and fund a cure to motor neuron.

Can’t understand where there is a “negotiation”.
Simply Collingwood goes to the AFL and requests that the QB game become a rotating home game between the two clubs.
The AFL make the fixture so only the AFL can turn QB from an exclusive Dees home game to the rotating home game that it should be.
And if the AFL Decide that they will pull the QB game because of our stance, well so be it.
We are Collingwood.
Stuff the rest.

Yes indeed...but degrees.

Previously the stadium owners sole interest was in looking after Etihad, hence wanting guaranteed ‘blockbusters’, a contracted number of Collingwood games etc.

However, unlike previous management, the AFLs sole focus isn’t on maximising revenue of just Marvel stadium.

Quote Channel Seven boss today on improving ratings and the state of the game in general: "if we can get Collingwood firing, that helps."

Lol.

Fremantle and Port Adelaide would justifiably survive over just about all the Victorian teams sans us and the Tigers you mentioned in such a situation.

I’d rather play Etihad tenants at Etihad anyway.

We should maintain our actual home ground advantage against interstate sides by playing at the MCG rather than diluting it by playing interstate sides at Etihad - where they probably already play as often as us each year.

Love to play all interstate teams at Marvel.
Just to pee them off about not getting a run on the G.
