I hope someone can help me out here. I looked for the info on afl.com.au but could not find it.

Once a players value increases, if you then wish to trade that player, do you receive the amount you initially paid for him or do you get his 'new' value? So if you picked up a rookie, who soared from 80K to 200K and a gun had a few bad weeks and dropped in value, would the extra 120K be available for you to use?

Only if you trade the player who has had an increase. Same goes with a decrease. So, if for example, your rookie went up from 80k to 120k, that would be his new value, but you can't 'bank' that money, you can only use it if you want to trade the rookie in for a 'big name' player.
