I've never played League before, let alone Union and am thinking of joining my local club.

I've only really played it at school, nothing too serious but know the rules.

I've been told I could get a spot on the wing piece of piss because I've got a lot of pace behind me. The only thing I'm worried about is the tackling. I'm assuming tackling in league is alot different to tackling in Aussie rules and I'm afraid I'll let alot of people through. I've played Aussie rules and am a pretty good tackler in that. What's the main difference?

just try to get in your opponent's face and wrap up the ball. unlike aussie rules, you're allowed to tackle the shanks/ankles, but i wouldn't recommend that technique unless as a last resort. you're also given a fair bit more leeway for above shoulders contact in league, within reason, so don't let that worry you too much, just get the sucker down.
more importantly, you're gonna need good communication between yourself and your centre; if he's going up-and-in, you have to as well; if he's sliding, you have to as well.

get your head to the side, hit at the hips and slide your arms down. They cant run without legs

Defending on the wing is shit to learn how to tackle, much easier in the middle of the field. Also, if anyone inside you goes in you are ****ed, 2 players running at you and a damned if you do, damned if you dont situation re which player to stick on.

2 on 1?
I'd do what Robbie Ross would do for the Storm and run hard at the ball carrier. Aim to smash him into next week.

Force him to pass before he's ready. He may bomb it. Or you WILL smash him.

Or just pretend to slip over.

Im just saying, wing and especially centre are much harder position to defend at simply because so other peoples **** ups can leave you in a world of trouble, compared to in the middle where you just tackle what comes at you, you dont have to worry about it so much.

Marker Defence is good fun.
