Are WAFL clubs forced to pick an AFL player in the seniors if they are not selected for WAFL duty or can they drop them to the reserves/colts without incurring the wrath of the AFL club they are aligned to?

Reason i ask is Calib "Wonder kid" Mourish continues to be a liability to East at this stage and badly needs to regain some form as hes looking out of his depth at the moment.

If East were to drop him, would Freo enforce its will and make East play him in the seniors?

Yeah, up to the WAFL clubs. Siegert spent half a season or more in the ressies in his first AFL year.

Besides, why bag Mourish? He's an 18 year old, speculative pick 79, plucked out of a country league... very much a project player one would think, and no-one would expect him to make a big impact immediately. Let him go back and play half a season in the reserves if that's what he needs - can only be good for his development, and doesn't automatically mean he's a hack...

I think it is with consultation between the AFL club and the WAFL club itself.

I just looked it up in the rules and here it is;

8.8.2 WAFL Clubs are to play their allocated AFL players, after discussion with
AFL Clubs according to their (WAFL) direction. This would apply to both
grade and position.

There has been a few occasions where the AFL clubs have insisted that players are played in the seniors when they aren't up to it or that they be played in specific positions that are not suitable for their WAFL team.

I can still remember the eagles taking Brett Spinks to Melbourne for a game he was never going to play because Souths refused to play him in their league side. The guy couldn't even run a lap of the ground and the insisted that he not be dropped.

There have been a couple of occasions too where players have actually been moved to another WAFL side if the AFL team doesn't like how he is being used.
