This question just came into my mind the other day and I was wondering if anyone remembers and could answer it for me.

Under Malcom Blight i am not sure what year exactly there was a player making his debut yet didn't spend 1 second on the ground with Malcom insisting he learn the game from the bench.

Does anyone remember who the player was???

IIRC it happened to Brett Chalmers in the 1994 season and Graham Cornes was the coach.

I cannot remember Blighty doing it – I could be wrong but.

Was it his first game though?

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Lucas Herbert because he rode the pine all day under Malcolm Blight, but I don't think it was his first game when it happened.

You are right Vic Crow, it wasnt his debut. I think Blighty was disappointed in his efforts from the previous week and wanted to show him that AFL footy doesnt come easy by leaving him on the bench for the entire game the following week. Just another reason why I'm not a fan of Malcom Blight, even though he took you blokes to a couple of flags.

Ok I would have sworn it was his first game but maybe he had only played a handful of games or something, looks like Malcoms ploy didn't work too well.

Didnt Neil Craig do a similar thing with Hudson this year in the pre season game agaisnt west coast. Pretty sure he spent nearly the whole game on the bench watching how cox went about his business.

It was Round 16 against the Bulldogs at the MCG.

It was his 11th game after debuting in Round 1 1999.

He played a further 3 games - the last against the Kangas in Round 22, which was also the last game for Troy Bond, Trent Ormond Allen, Rod Jameson, Matty Liptak, Matthew Golding.....and Blighty himself

There's a fine line between genius and madman.

By then Blighty was a complete madman IMO - and a cruel one at that.
