I was just looking at our list and the younger tall players.Out of Livingston,Thornton,Merrington,Prendergast and Beasy who do you think has the most potential?

Talent

Livingston and Thornton, then Beasy

Livingston is very very talented, Thornton has real passion and Beasy has got some good skills from what i've seen

The club will be banking on those guys in a few years time

Thornton - Talent to burn. Once he develops, look out! Is a very good kick and has a touch of mongrel which suggests that he will be an enforcer once he bulks up. Not any old enforcer though, one with great skills.

Livingston - Class, class, class. Not in the Brownlow mould, more in the self assured SOS mould. Will be a cornerstone of the team for a long time.

Beasy - Jury is still out but the lad has a great leap and can take a strong overhead mark.

Prendergast - An athlete not a footballer. The tackling ability he shows in the VFL will be beneficial in the AFL. Now all he needs to do is learn how to take a few more marks and find the ball. I won't hold my breath.

Merrington - I loved the game against Port where he held some strong marks but he only showed that sort of form fleetingly the rest of the year. Too slow for a key defensive post, not consistent enough for a key forward post (plus he has a bit of opposition there) and not a ruckman's backside. His future seems short.

Out of Thornton and Livingston, who are our most promising talls, Livingston is better at the overhead spoil and is probably a better mark. In general play, Thornton has more poise and better skills. Agree that Thornton has a bit of mongrel and will become an enforcer. Doesn't take a backward step. Livingston has more pace and is capable of pushing forward.

Would favour Livingston over Thornton, but only just. Both have heaps of talent, and should be 150+ game players. I would favour Livingston only becuase he can play at either end of the ground. He is possibly a little more progressed in his development than Thornton, remember that Livingston has had an extra year with the Blues.

With the others, would see Beasy develop as a half forward. Can take a good mark and can kick it out of sight. I'd like to see Merrington develop into a "swingman", a bit like Trent Hotton.

Prendergast would have to develop sooner rather than later. Would like to see him play maybe half back or wing!!

Sporn better on the wing than Prendergast. Eventually it will be Wells and Sporn on the wings IMO.

Prendergast's lack of skills is starting to show.

I hope you don't classify Sporn and Wiggins as talls...then again CFC might well do, given that Manton is a FB (185cm!!!)

Sporn - 188cm
Wiggins - 186cm

Personally I think Livingston shows more than Wiggins. Playing FB is harder than playing HBF or BP.

... i have to admit, i really like the looks of Callan Beasy, potential as a very strong marking forward, though both Livingston and Thornton, look like they could have big futures, yet, Merrington and Prendergast's career are somewhat in limbo, and may be struggle to keep their spot in the squad, if they dont do something special in 2003

I suggested that Prenda could develop as a wingman because of his height and speed. Remember, this guy was a top athlete before switching to football. On the wing, he won't be exposed with his lack of strength, and won't have to be as accountable. Have enough tall options to play back e.g. Kouta, Livingston, Thornton, Manton and Beaumont.

I would love to see Sporn develop as a wingman, has excellent skills and very good overhead.

Prenda's only option is to play on the wing, he hasnt got the essential footy smarts...

Sporn is a great player, shame he had the bone twisted in his ankle, he was coming along nicely

Merrington is alright but slow and turns like an ocean liner, was he injured??

Wiggins has been cursed with no 34, tries hard none the less

Carlton Youngsters

I think Thornton shows the most out of all of them. He is going to be a Carlton champion by the end of his career. Poise, skills and smarts, he is a future champ.

Livingston has big wraps on him, and has done well so far. His skills aren't as good as Thornton, but he has more size/bulk. I really hope that he develops into the FB/CHB that we want him to. Can also play forward, and looks better at that end.

Wiggins, IMO, has been sensational. Plays back pocket and is extremely hard at it. Has tonnes of courage, plenty of speed, great leap and mark and has good skills. I think that over the next 4-5 years, he will develop into a top midfielder.

Beasy has only limited experience, but looks like he will be ok. Huge leap, but too small to play ruck in AFL. Not quite quick or mobile enough to be a key forward, i think that he will become a HFF. Can kick it a mile and take a grab. Will be a difficult match up for opposition.

Sporn also has a heap of talent. Will play wing/HFF/HBF for the next few years until he develops more. Tall enough to create match up problems for opposition midfielders, he will be a dangerous player in 3-4 years time.

Prendagast, while limited with his skills, will be a good player for us. I think his best position is on a wing or HBF. Could possibly play forward due to his height.

Merrington has the height to be a very dangerous forward in the AFL, but just needs to work on his mobility. Can kick goals. If he improves, will be a forward cum ruckmen.

Davies will also become a good midfielder in years to come.
