Food for thought (Part 1)

Everyone believes the horror stories....some of you would be surprised by the facts...These stats are only till round 11 this year (and only include hammy injuries sustained throughout the season proper). It shows, for all the carry on, that we dont have a soft-tissue crisis at EFC. In fact, we're quite well placed.

Hamstring injuries to round 11 (in season)

Adelaide 13
Brisbane 13
Carlton 4
Collingwood 0
Essendon 4
Fremantle 3
Geelong 2
Hawthorn 7
Melbourne 3
Nth Melb 1
Port Adel 2
Richmond 3
St.Kilda 5
Sydney 8
West Coast 2
W'Bulldogs 3

Where did those stats come from and could you provide a link?

Most of the criticism has been about soft tissue injuries, not just Hamstrings.

A full year, including pre season is required to make a valid assessment.

I have my doubts about those figures.

Me too.

Can think of more then 4... Jetta, Gumby, Lonergan, McVeigh, Myers and Dempsey all did their hammy's before round 11.

On this occasion, the stats do lie.

While our last few years has been ordinary from an injury point of view, we need to give the guy credit for getting Hird up in 2000 when his career was all but over.:thumbsu:

Spot on, whilst its probably a good move his on his way out, i will never forget him for saving Hirdy in 99. Thanks Quinny, best of luck in your new job.:thumbsu:

These stats are from Champion Data - so go ahead an doubt them all you want. I can understand why you wouldn't want to believe it as it doesn't really help your argument to.

There are no links to the champion data stats. They are only available to direct clients. Anyone who works for the HS would be able to see them or anyone who is working for an AFL Club or one of their other clients.
Members of the public dont get acess to them other than what you can read in the HS and what comes out in the prospectus each year.
The stats would not be far off. They don't include pre season injury though. They are only the injury stats recorded during the season .
Pretty sure they do not include groin injuries as soft tissue injuries as well.

With hamstring tightness this is actually one area that the club should be commended on.
All the players listed with hammy tightness have been told to stop training straight away or if it is after a game they are not rushed back into training. The result is we have actually avoided a few more serious injuries in this area becasue players are not being pushed through the little niggles.

Just a little something for you all to ponder. Quinns job is obviously fitness but how do you guys look at his role as the fitness coach ?
In real terms he is basicly like a horse trainer. He is not the doctor or physio. He is in charge of fitness and the programs set up to train the players throughout the year.
Now if he is to be guided by the medical staff, physios and players honesty as to how their program or injury is going how is it his fault it the information he may be given is not 100% correct. ?
I think a few of you seem to have the fitness program and medical issues wound into each other a bit too much ;)
