I'm about to quit my job at Coles because I got a grown ups job after begging around town (Bartender) so i want to know what the best way to go about it is. Ask for reference and thanks them for the work or big storm out after making baby jesus blush with my language.
Note:They have been pricks to work for.

Just hand in a letter of resignation and say you got another full time job, they will understand.

My cousin quit his job (at Westco or something), by telling them he was "going to the toilet" and just never went back.

Hilarious. :D:thumbsu:

But yeah, it's never pleasant, quitting. One casual job I had.. at a retail place, far out it was the worst shittiest job I've ever had. I just walked in one day, announced it was my last shift that day (I was casual so i didnt need any notice), and then the head manager happened to be in that day. He did EVERYTHING to try and change my mind.

He goes: "Please, just stay working here for one more fortnight"
Me: "No".
Him: "Why not?"
Me: "Cause I dont want to work here for one extra minute." :)

Good luck dude, with your quitting. I'd try and get a reference... if you think you'll need it in the future.

If you want to work like an adult, be treated like an adult, paid like an adult, then damn well act like an adult.

Resign with grace & good manners

I also resigned from Coles in similar circumstances. I asked for refrerences but my bosses knew I was looking for a full time job. If your refrences ask for extra shifts, do them.............they will help you get a good comment. If you turn them down, they won't say anything positive

Do it with a letter - leave with class. Bad mouthing bosses etc as you leave is not good. Even if you hate the place, don't leave on bad terms, it will come back to bite you.

I bet he didn't find it funny missing out on his termination payments by not giving enough notice.

I kept a servo job when I got my current office job. I work 3 hours a week there which gives me a little pocket money each week, a staff discount card and occasional fill ins on weekends when they really need me.

90% of the stresses and BS that comes with working retail go when you're only doing it as a second job.

I had a christmas job at sanity last holidays - my boss was so evil - she made me cry pretty much every shift - so two days before christmas i rocked up - told her i couldnt work there anymore because i was going crazy - she went off at me and made write an email to the area manager which i did happily - explained everything that was wrong with the manager - i didnt care about a reference becuase i was still working at another place where id been for three years. anyway the best part is - about two hours after i quit, another trainee came and did the exact same thing - and she was braver then me - she told the manager exactly why she was quitting and detailed every little thing she'd done wrong.

it was great becuase that week all the staff (there was only about 10 of us) had abotu 30 hours - so two of us leaving really didnt help - i didnt care becuase they were all pretty mean. haha and now everytime ive walked past there ive never seen that manager working - im pretty sure she got fired - haha and apparently the area manager did too!

i know i sound mean and spiteful - but this place was seriously hell to work at
