At the game in between cursing Milera and not sure on what happened to Rankine's ability, my biggest take was why the hell do we 1) pass the ball to ROB so often and 2) whenever he does have the ball why there isn't a player coming in for the handball receive?

He. Cannot. Kick.

I can actually stomach him in our side, barely, if we were smart enough as football club to always, 100% of the time, have a teammate within a few metres whenever ROB has the ball to dish off a handball to.

You didn't notice his bullet pass to Fog for a goal? His ground kicking has improved out of sight lately, apart from kicks off the ground, where he generally trips over the ball.

Oppositions have worked out who some of our least damaging ball users are. Teams used to let Kelly alone in the back pocket knowing once he got it he'd nest it until eventually kicking it down the line.

I'd avoid Laird as an outlet too...Whilst he does look for infield options, he doesn't have enough of a pentrating kick to challenge defenses when he eventually kicks it long.

No need for natural talent or flair - just train it out of them
His stubborn conservative Selections and Game "plan" don't allow for or encourage individual flair.
Just look at who's languishing in the SANFL (Jones, Pedlar to name only two) and have not been brought on to their best potential.
I hate Nicks
Meh; I don't hate the man who seems affable and likable enough as a person.
I do hate what he's done as Coach, though.
The happy-clappers are thrilled to look at a 6-4 start after 10 games.
"HUZZAH!!" they shout "Nicks is a good Coach, after all" they exclaim, ignoring
--- the pain and misery of the last 5 years as if 6-4 has undone all that, and
--- the fact that we have not beaten any of the 5 sides above us nor 7th-placed Geelong (and will not, imo), and
--- the glaring fact that his game style does not suit his squad, nor win close games.
Compare Nicks to Clarko, Chris Scott, Beveridge, Hardwick --- their best, Flag-winning sides have been strongly influenced and driven by their grumpy, aggro and tactically astute Coaches.
Exceptions: McRae and Simpson who are pleasant individuals but have clear and incisive tactics and clever footy brains, proving nice blokes can Coach Flag winners.

Nice-bloke-Nicks and many of his players will be lifelong mates and will have at least 4 catch-up barbies/year, but they won't have what they should all be driven to achieve, above everything --- Premiership(s).

We played into the Pies hands AGAIN. They rope a doped us into the slow down the line stuff that took away any attacking flair, waiting for the eventual lapse in concentration.

Remember in 2023 we came from a long way back in one game playing irresistible attacking football....many neutrals commented how ordinary we made the eventual Premiers look that day.

Genuinely believe McRae fears this in us.

Problem we have is in those types of games we revert to trying not to lose mentality rather than going for the jugular.

I agree. Given Collingwood has been up and about since 2022, our losses other than the one at the G in March 2022 the rest have been very small. We seem to match up well with them.

But again, we get 3-4 goals down and fight back for a small loss. It is infuriating.

The game was lost by Fogarty giving away 50 while 65M out. Allowing Elliot a contested mark 10M out, Rachele missing 35M out with a goal to Mihocek from 55M out 30 seconds later, Curtin missing 30M out, Rankine missing everything twice from 45M out, Worrell fumbling in the goal square (yes it was rough like the Milera "throw") and some awful defensive actions in Q1 resulting in easy goals.

When we went hard and fast it resulted in a turnover at half back, great sides aren't going to allow us to just waltz through them.

There has to be more than 1 way to play/win and that is a work in progress with a middle of the pack list which lacks midfield grunt.
How about Berry not getting a kick away when running towards goal?

10 Josh Daicos (COLL)
7 Jeremy Howe (COLL)
6 Jordan Dawson (ADEL)
5 Darcy Fogarty (ADEL)
2 Ned Long (COLL)

5 - Jaicos/Jaicos
4 - Howe/Dawson
3 - Fogarty/Howe
2 - Dawson/Fogarty
1 - Long/Long

Reckon the right side was Nicks

+8 Inside 50's against the Pies, so for me it was a big midfield tick.

But an absolutely mind-boggingly poor 89 turnovers (+15).....and ground ball gets deplorable
Reckon freo flogged them for I50’s, the don’t care about losing the middle, just launch from halfback.

Nicks can't be held responsible for how the team he's coached for six years plays
+
It's amazing how many people still don't get this.
Nicks (in his most serious voice): "When we play our way, we win and we can beat any side in the Competition,
well, except for the sides we've never beaten under my watch (Collingwood/Sydney).
When we lose it's because the players haven't executed our way, which is my gameplan".

Journo:" What exactly is "our way" ...?".

Nicks (annoyed): "I just told you, it's the way we play when we win. O-U-R way!
When we win it's because the players play our way, which is my gameplan and is the winning way.
When we lose, it's because the players haven't played our way. You're not very bright, are you?".

I know they missed a few, but I suspect we had the easier shots.

Wasnt the reason we lost in any case.
Yep, at the game it was quite apparent that their shots were from much tighter angles and I think we rushed 6 behinds too. I'd say that was a good part of our game in that we were able to force them wide. The 3 ootf's and Rachele's miss exacerbated all of this. Biggest let-down for me was being unable to control the likes of Josh Daicos. Both ANB and Keays were terribly loose, and weren't even able to punish him the other way when we did manage to get the ball back.

Actually, it’s 6 P’s. Prior preparation prevents piss poor performance.
Actually it’s 7 P’s
