Our champs were great.
But they might not be there in 2018.
I am not begrudging winning though!

PS thanks for mods fixing up the title and moving posts. I just created the thread between the 2 year finishing the bath and my taking him out of the bath and dressing him.

Effort & Intensity, that's all we want.

Sometimes it'll be just what gets us the win - as it did tonight.

Probably 'played' better games this year, but a win like this does wonders for the group.

Delaney wasn't injured, was getting well and truly beaten and we needed run through the middle.
He was too slow for Hogan, and they didn't have another tall to put him onto. Good call.

I would like to ask what the hell the commentators, in particular Gerard Healy, we're going on about when talking about the Delaney sub?

I like Delaney, but it was clear Hogan was too nimble for him. They were acting like Hogan's goals were in spite of a defensive masterclass rather than a mismatch created by his agility.

I mean, it's a low scoring game, he's kicked FIVE goals out of 11 and they're talking up the sub as it was disastrous for us!

I don't know if he was injured, but personally I thought the sub was pretty spot on as Delaney doesn't give much going forward into attack, and if he's unable to wrestle with another big body and is being beaten then what else can he do?

I though Richo deserved plaudits for the change to be honest. Not easy to take off your true FB in a tight game

Edit: and their other key forward, Pederson, was off so the obvious swap was unavailable!

Great win... but after the initial euphoria I have to say there was some concern regarding the future retirements of rooey, joey and dempster (and fish) which will happen in the next two years :( hope games and wins like these fast track the development of our kids.

More credit/applause needs to go to guys like Reiwoldt, Montagna, Fisher, Ray and even Adam Schneider. They could have all just clung on, going through the motions and cashing their paychecks, looking like shadows of their former selves, having "had their time", but Roo is as active and courageous as ever (would be on pace for a ridiculous 207 mark, 41 goal season across 22 games), Montagna is working immensely hard and playing some of his best footy (despite missing a few games early), Fisher has been as solid as ever (when he has played), Ray has also been solid since returning from injury, and Schnieder has reinvented himself as a winger/half back, and was playing career-best footy before being left out (due to the Rookie List rules, not because of form or fitness) this week.

These guys are proof that you can't and shouldn't just gut the list or pension off your older guys, just because you're not in a "premiership window". If they still love the club and the game, and they're still willing to work and can still "go", then they're probably even more valueable to your club than they were in their mid-20s, in terms of protecting the younger blokes, and leading and showing them the way, as well as ensuring you don't get slaughtered on gameday.

Glad to see the neutrals are starting to respect the way we go about it.

Won't be long until they start complaining when we become a powerhouse again.

I really can't begrudge or hate a team for winning TBH. If they're better on the day or across the year, good on them.

Also don't understand Ray criticism, been amongst our best half dozen in the last two weeks.
+1.

That handball to Roo, which cost us a goal was the only negative IMO.

I thought Shenton improved as the game wore on IMHO. Certainly puts his head over the ball, kudos to him.

One of the best wins I've experienced as a Saints supporter in terms of snatching a win at the death.

We should really have won that game comfortably with the amount of possession, inside 50s etc we produced but as we so often do we made scoring goals painful at times.

Loved our workrate, pressure and spirit though, I thought we'd blown that game when Howe scored that late goal but then Jack Steven stepped up to say "Not on my watch you campaigners" and dragged us over the line with Joey putting the icing on the cake.

I loved Jack Steven before this game but I love him even more now, his workrate, speed off the mark and ability to create some magic is second to none.

The oldies like Rooey and Joey were fantastic, Gilbo had a good return and our youngsters like Lonie, Newnes, Minchington, Longer, Membrey and even Ross all contributed well.

Hate is such a strong word.

Can't stand Carlton though.

Our pressure and tackling was huge all day, especially at the start of the second (and not so much in the last 10 minutes of the second). Having a more experienced line up allows us to maintain pressure for longer but I felt all our young players had nice contributions, especially on the pressure front. All of Longer, Ross, Michington, Newnes and Lonie of our younger brigade had 6 tackles or more which is a huge effort.

I thought Minchi looked handy with the ball, did a nice few things with the ball but drifted out of the game. Like his size and run and I am hoping he can get a good crack at it so he can feel comfortable at AFL level.

Thought Webster was brilliant. His kicking is a weapon going out of defense and absolutely killed Garlett, who is a dangerous small forward (kicked 48 in a season once).

Gilbert started really well and did Gilbert things - intercept marks, dashing runs and also some nice kicks as well as some bad. He faded towards the end of the game but I am glad he is back in the team.

Great to have another win on the board and the bye comes at a good time.

Carn Saints!

Another clutch game win. This team plays with a lot of spirit.
Loving the spirit!

Really gets you up & about when we play like this, so many great signs for our future.

Loved Richo's passion when Joey kicked the sealer!
