with both unable to make the seniors for various reasons i think one of them will be gone next year..

whom is more value to our team going forward?

personally i say raines..

definately raines as he'll have trade value fo gc17 in a couple of years while king isn't good enough to play afl, can't fault the endeavour but he really is the modern version of tim fleming and you can't afford to have that on yr list

Keep King. He'll be perfect for the middle. His only problem is he panicks a bit near the opposition goals when playing as back pocket, but he won't have that problem at centre bounces. His skills, speed, attack, evasive skill is alot better than Raines. People seem to forget very easily what he is capable of

His skills are not that flash and he is very weak against good small forwards. Not a good thing when your a specialist back pocket.

Raines is better at beating a forward. Wallace had so much faith in him he has played him on N Riewoldt. King has been killed this year close to goal. We lost the saints game due to nobody having the ability to shut down the tiprat S Milne. Keep Raines - at least until we can see what the gold coast offer.

Rainesy

Is alot younger and bigger then Jake King. He also has more room for improvement imo not to say that Jake King has been a bad player for the club. He has the potential to be our best small defender because McMohan and Newman have got to the age where they ain't going to improve a whole lot. Rainsy really needs to work on his kicking and awarness though

Who exactly will he replace in the middle?
DOn't know about you but I would prefer Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Tuck, Coughlan when he gets back, Tambling etc to King.
He has no place in the team, to small for the midfield, unaccountable for the back line, not to forget all the goals he leaks and no room in the forward line

I don't think either is overrated. Raines is a very accomplished footballer, might have marginally lost his way, injuries can do that. He reminds me of Cotchin with his skills, and as another post said, he was our man to mind Reiwoldt at one stage. I saw him play with Coburg, and he just stood out at that level with his skills. Good footballer that will come back and be a very good player.
King, like Patto, has got mongrel and enthusiam. I think there is room for two like that on the list, and if you look at Matt White, and Axel, you can see what real pace can do to break up an opposition's defence. Play him on the wing, or if he gets fitter, in the midfield. Nice to have an in and under footballer who can run as well.
There are plenty we should delist before those two. dnquote=bloodiedtiger;11876509]both are overrated and wont be part of our future success[/quote]

Raines can't hold a man FRIGGEN HELL has everyone forgotten? They always try and isolate him alone in the square. Secondly who said he was skilled:eek:

which ever one we can get a good carrot for at trade time goes, unfortunately.

the backline is starting to look settled - so both are really surplus at the moment.

One of them wont be gone, we will have enough delistings with Tiv, Hyde and a few more

Who are the few more though? Now with Pettifer apparently staying there arent that many options. Obviously Tiv and Hyde ar gone, Jackson will be in big trouble, i think they will give Meyer another year, Cas apparently is under contract for one more. We will get rid of atleast 4.

We've turned the ball over plenty this year...I shudder to think how bad it could have been if Raines was still getting a game. King makes a few obvious errors now and again, but if you count the unmarkable sky punts from Raines as errors (as I do and they rightly should be seen that way because we don't retain possession or momentum) then he's in double figures every game.

Raines is just as average in the air as King, not as good at ground level, slower, a far worse kick and decision maker, and not in the same league for rebounding.

The only possible reason we'd keep Raines and ditch King would be a medical issue.

Raines is a gun. Wait until you see him back to his best, if he can just get there. Bad run of late.

I'm with you. Raines IS a really skilled footballer and that sttod out in his early years. He has poise and balance. I'm not suggesting that either he or Kingy play in defence. They are both wingers and midfielders as long as they have the fitness. I wouldn't underestimate Raines as a potential forward either. I'm not going to bag other Richmond players on the list, but there are plenty that don't have the skills of raines and the grunt of King.We should keep them both.

it has to be raines by far he has just been injury plagued thats all...
as much as i love kingy he'll probably be gone but raines is an asset... his run off halfback and he is a few years younger

and this is my 200 post...woot woot

Raines for sure, im still having nightmares over the bags of 7 from the ****wit Stephen Milne and Corey Jones kicked on him this season, hes far too prone to getting goals kicked on him and turns it over alot.
Rainesy will make it.

I'm talking about every game he's ever played Kurtis. Unless he improves significantly along the same sort of curve White has this year - i.e. explosive pace coming from nowhere which he's never displayed before (what King already has) - and a dramatic improvement in his ball use, he's simply not good enough.

Anyone who thinks otherwise takes absolutely no notice of what happens when Raines kicks the footy. He sets his teammates up under his horrible float punts over and over again and the only time he doesn't is when he goes short; which is not good enough from a small who needs to move the ball fast and long - in line with the gameplan we are developing.

He's a good kid, he's got courage, he obviously is a team player, but he's a Newman without the kicking - not fast enough or a good enough ball winner for midfield, not good enough overhead to be a lockdown defender on even select opponents, and not fast enough or a good enough ball user to be a wingman or a rebounding HBF.

Without massive and rapid improvement on his flaws, he has none of the key attributes a player his size needs to hold his position in a good side.

It'd surprise the hell out of me if he was still on the list 2-3 years from now. How on earth anyone could speculate about delisting blokes like Jackson and King ahead of Raines is beyond me. They at least have some of the key physical attributes necessary for success.
