Have rated what he brings very highly for 2-3 years now. The Rance knockers need to have a look at yesterdays game compared to the last few weeks if they ever question his value to the side. H

He is far and away our best defender. He's as courageous as they come, strong defender, offers run and carry and always plays for the jumper. His spoil on Tomahawk that he got pinned for a free was one of the best spoils I've seen for the year and it was a joke it was paid against him as it was brilliant defending.

Yup - I'm on board again.
Actually reminds me a lot of Gasper in his best years.... looks a little unco and stumbles into his opponent a lot but usually not enough to give away a free.

Is there still such thing as a Rance Knocker????? please show me I need a laugh.

He has the ability to read the flight of the ball as good as anyone I have seen.... an he gets his body in the right places.

There are still Rance knockers?

Was almost AA last year, showed why today.

His disposal has improved immensely and he offers an attacking option.

Still falls over a little, but is still one of the better key defenders out there.

Just not making the club broke like Gasper did ;)

He demonstrated yesterday that not only does he strengthen our defense significantly but that he knows how to become an offensive threat with the ball coming out of the back line. He generates the fast running game the Tigers have missed without him. His courage is not only to the ball in flight in defense but also to take the game on and work hard.

He is a role model on field showing the others how to get up and go.

Given the amount of senior games Astbury has had and the intermittent sequence of them (meaning it must be harder to develop at AFL level if you aren't playing at the top for consistent stretches of time) he is coming along really, really well.

Good to have a developing dependable, strong back to lock down the big gun opposition forwards freeing up Rance. Astbury is still developing and he has taken his opportunity this season to show his growing ability.

Don't think there would be many Rance knockers on here. It would surely be from other clubs and not our own.
He still makes the odd blunder here and there but they are becoming less common.

I would like to see him being used as third man up and play looser rather than following a forward all day.

I love the fact that he takes a chance. The turn over don't worry me so much as he gets the ball moving, Astbury and Chaplin might not turn it over chipping it slowly across field but they contribute to the next turnover by moving it so slowly.

He gets the ball moving quickly and takes his chances, he is courageous and helps other defenders and is strong at ground level as well as in the air. A great defensive general on the last line of defence, love the Tross.

Him and Astbury have the chance this year to form a nice little tandem KPD partnership, Astbury's work one-on-one with the gorilla forwards has been sensational this year in a very weak defensive back six.

Astbury and Rance are our future in defence. All we need is for Grimes to get his mojo back which means we can release Morris and Chaplin to the VFL and beyond.

Was great to see Rance out there again and looks like he hasn't missed a beat with his injury (same for Deledio). Has the fanatical dash and rebound to help generate movement further up the ground. Courage personified (the Hawkins' spoil - running back with the flight of the ball with a 100kg bloke running towards you and keeping your eyes on the ball the whole time). Should have got the free just for the courage alone (let alone the legit spoil he ended up making).

Kudos to Astbury as well - that's Hawkins, Cloke and Roughead he's beaten in the last 4 odd weeks. Only Jono Brown perhaps getting the better of him (albeit in his 250th game). People say Astbury needs to rebound more but with Rance back, he can stay deep on the best opposition forward and let Rance push up where his running/rebound game is superb.

He is the modern day defender, no need to stand and wrestle just attack the contest. Like what he brings................ a lot :thumbsu:

For goodness sake, he was taken with an early second round pick! We should expect a player taken with that sort of pick to be okay. Not stunned.

Nah he needs to rebound more, imagine how deadly our back would be if he got this part of his game going, jeeze.

Definitely would be great if Astbury could add that part to his game wart in time but for now, I'm happy with him taking the the competition's best key forwards to the cleaners every week! :D

Considering how our recruiting dept was setup back then,We did a remarkable job considering.;):D
