I've missed a lot of cool chat about school video games. FWIW, Elasto Mania in my early high school years and Icy Tower in the later years were the big games of my time. Football Manager was also quite big at my school, though there were a lot of... people of European decent at my school which was the main group playing it. I could never get into it.
We also had one class that everybody did because it was an absolute bludge. It was in year ten and called "the mini thesis". Literally all we did for the entire semester is research and write a mini thesis. Nobody did anything but play games, and then knocked out their thesis in the last two weeks. One day a mate wasn't quick enough to alt-tab out of his game as the teacher was walking around and got caught. Teacher tore shreds off him and mentioned how disappointed he was because "everybody else is working really hard and here you are just playing games". That bloke was clueless. One of the dumbest teachers I ever had and a big part of why I really struggled in year 11 physics. He didn't think there was a difference between 3.1 and 3.01 in one exercise we did.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned from Primary School is The Incredible Machine. Absolutely loved that game!

I went in for the audition earlier this year. Got the second highest score from the group of about 400-450. But then everyone that got at least 17 were selected to go in front of a camera for the second round. The thing is, I don't like public speaking and do easily screw up in front of a camera. So, therefore I doubt I will get on.
The annoying this about these game shows, is that they look for camera-genic people rather than the smartest people.

I get it, but the first part of the audition showed that I was smart enough to be on the show. But they are more concerned on people that can make the show entertaining. I'd rather be on the other side of the camera, working; rather than in front of the camera.

It's like a job interview. If you show them you're boring, uninteresting and have no personality, why would they pick you?
I originally applied for the chase, got through 2 rounds of auditions and they wanted me to go to Melbourne for a 3rd, however they weren't paying for flights and it was right in the middle of a busy work week, so scratched that.
Yeah my audition was around September/October last year in Adelaide. I got a pretty middle of the road score, think it was about 20 or 21 out of 30. Yeah the camera thing was pretty daunting, but once I started hearing some of the shit the other people were saying in my group it made me feel heaps more confident. I certainly didn't over act for that part, literally just told a story on how my dog ended up in a fashion magazine, which in hindsight was probably a good move as it was a pretty unique story compared to everyone else that talked in front of the camera.
Don't think you need to be camera-genic as much as you just need to be confident and not nervous. You could certainly tell the people that were shitting bricks in the audition stage. Although in saying that when it comes down to being on set I think i'll be in the same boat haha
Damn really? That's so long.
My brother did his when they first brought it to Australia. His was within the first two months of the show airing.
