i've been rewatching seasons 2 and 3 the last week and the last episode of 3 is fantastic, the april fool's one where bart shakes the duff up and it ends up being a clip show. i like any episodes with krusty in them like his father or his daughter. really, i like every episode up to season 12 where it is noticeably worse. 4-9 are up there with the golden years of seinfeld (4-7) for me.
One of the best references to another movie was when Homer was Flanders' new best friend... Ned takes his family and drives off, Homer's carrying golf clubs and he chases after Ned's car like the T-1000 in "Terminator 2".
