Super jealous about seeing the Monk.
Herbie Hancock is one of the best gigs I've ever seen. He's one of my idols.

Totally agree about Monk. astrodee I'm very envious of that.
I've also seen Hancock a few times. A true master.

Hot 8 were a lot of fun. Very accessible after the gig, even when some friends went to Hungry Jacks across the road from the gig with one of them to chat further!

Thanks for the earplugs tip. I may grab some of those for the wife.

The Monk, despite the acoustics, was great. Hancock was very good. My favourite concerts were Grappelli, particularly when he toured in his 80's, and the supporting act was the inimitable Blossom Dearie. Was lucky enough to catch the great Miles and Coltrane when i worked in the States.

Anyone want to hear a totally true story that nobody is likely to believe even for a second but is true all the same? I used to be a musician - classical that is - and I studied in New York on this fellowship thingy for a few years though 6 months of that was at Hartford Connecticut. Anyhow long story short I once played at the Villiage Vanguard. Played "Naima" with Jackie McLean. Who of course is sadly dead now, but he wasn't then which was pretty crucial to the story.

Even I'm not certain I believe this but it's true nonetheless

Did you like Connecticut? I spent a bit of time there when I worked in the states. Pepes pizza (the original store in New Haven) was the best pizza I ever ate. Also had white birch beer (just like sarsaparilla)

So it didn't really span the Jazz and Classical world - it was more a one off because I was in a quartet and someone had the bright idea to do some arrangements to incorporate strings.

How do you rate them?

Dem's da ones. Yeah, I like 'em. Dunno how they compare to you ones but certainly a big step up on the foam ones I'm used to. Cuts the sound down but I can still hear quite clearly. And they fit in my ears pretty comfortably which is particularly important inside of a helmet for a few hours.

I did like Connecticut. It's amazing in the fall - but the 6 months or so I was there I was in Hartford which is a bet of a meh city. New Haven is more impressive because of the University campus and the old part of town. Though the good bit for me about Connecticut was that I didn't stay in Hartford because I got to spend the six months house and dog minding for these people who had a nice place 25 minutes away just outside of Danbury (which is one of those cute, old towns that became famous in the last couple of years unfortunately as the place where a lunatic killed dozens of school children with a semi automatic). Also there seem to be a really high number of skunks in Connecticut. I got skunked once. I had to chuck out everything I was wearing because the smell just doesn't go away.

Agree with Sando in Mamasita... only downer is that you have to line up.

I'll put one out for Maha if you like lebanese food. Bistro Vue if you want French.... the tarte tartin is amazing.
