Ok, so everyone here is analysing our trade week, seeing if we made good moves etc, debating whether travis cloke would be a good option assuming he gives collingwood the flick. However, I believe we should just hold our horses and wait for one year because I could be wrong but I believe a one Brendon Goddard is out of contract at those grand final defeats specialists saint kilda in 12 months time.

Now pretty much all of us know that this guy and his family absolutely bled for the Navy Blue in years gone by and honestly I feel another Saint Kilda failure in 2011 could create a massive invitation for us to chase him hard. He's the one I'd throw the massive bucks at and the draft picks to his club. A forward, a backmen and a quality midfielder who will win the footy all in one! (Not many of those players around is there?)

Hold off Swanny, get in his and his managers ear and really let them know that we want to see Brendon come home :). Maybe we should of kept another Brendan that we recently had, to throw in as part of the package :P.

I personally believe that the current position we are in we can have a real hot crack at him! What do you other posters think?

Unless you think we should tank for a year so we get number 1 pick in the PSD how on earth could we cough up enough to satisfy st. kilda? Give up Gibbs or Murphy maybe? I can't say there'd be a lot of other guys/ picks that would satisfy.

Umm the uncontracted element helps, forces a club to accept a deal at some point or lose them for nothing.... it would take a lot of wheeling and dealing but it could possibly be done.

Think about it we may have a player chased by GWS, if a decent one like Walker for eg (may snag a first rounder) plus another 1st rounder we get naturally means we are in a decent position already. Don't need to take much else out of next year's draft I feel too as we may in fact be using some of our draft selections on promoting our decent quality looking rookies so could use the later picks in drafting plus we are getting dylan buckley in the future!

From this we are effectively still topping up on extra quality outside of this possible attempt and may have two first rounders to throw in front of the saints. Just a possibility, may be tough but you never know....

F**k me, the quality of threads/posts on bigfooty is just getting worse and worse by the day (if it wasn't already at rock bottom).

Shame for those who actually want genuine intelligent debate/analysis...(in no way am I suggesting that I don't contribute to the joke that is bigfooty but seriously just getting tired of this s**t).

We may as well bring back spudchamber.

It's a nice thought but there is not a snow flakes chance in hell that St Kilda would even think of letting him go. He will be their highest paid plyer very soon, and therefore will be untouchable.

Not only is Goddard something of God at the saints, and wont walk for any amount we can offer him, but if he comes out of contract and doesnt renew with the saints, one suspects that GWS will throw crap loads of cash at him (ala gold coast and ablett)

Unless he asks to come to carlton, i wouldnt even bother.

This post is absurd.....

There is simply no-way the club can target an oppositions best player and land them.
It just doesn't happen........

Why would you even think about it.

We have our own B.G

Tracking along ahead or at worst similar at this stage in their careers.

Call me a little ol' fashioned, hell call me a retrobate (as long as you go the trouble of explaining the term to Richmond supporters), but I like seeing one club champions, yep even when that one club is not Carlton. We had our chance with Goddard and well and truly ****ed it up...hope he plays out his years at the Saints.

And I realise there is a little hypocrisy in the embracing of Judd as all things Carlton, but I do reserve a special pedestal for champions of the game who play out a career at one club. Murph, Gibbs and MK I'm looking at you.

I reckon Goddard will have signed a 6 year, $5m extension at the Saints by Rnd 12 next year. Good luck to him, has become a wonderful player.

I'm very much hoping Bryce Gibbs develops in a similar way.

That would be grand, but he'd want to hit the weights pretty damn hard in the not too distant future.

Sure, he doesn't quite have Goddard's size, but Goddard wasn't always the superstar he is now. He was treacle-slow and looked like an undersized KP who didn't have a position.

Now he's a mega star who can play anywhere.

Gibbs is a whole 1 cm shorter and almost 4 years younger than Goddard. These boys were taken at #1 for a reason! Gibbs hasn't YET shown the world everything he can do. But I think he will.

If we are going to throw the cheque book at anyone it should be someone like Brian Lake.

Add Goddard to our side and we are margainly better. Add Lake and we are a genuine contender.

Fat Andrew caused this.

We could've got him back early but he is a Saint for life now.

We need to thank our lucky stars the other player stolen from us Wells turned into a Tambling rather than an Andrew McLeod.
