Greatly exceeded my expectations this year. However, he still has a bit to go. Seems to struggle against the top class CHF's, bar Riewoldt. If Rutts was out of the side for one reason or another, I have feeling Bocky would struggle to contain the monster forwards ala Brown, Tredrea, Pav etc. But then again, who knows. My assessment of him at this time last year was way off the mark. I could be wrong again.

Bock, without being an absolute gun, I believe is very important to our team structure going forward. By that I mean forward both in terms of youth development and forward line delivery. I have been excited by the way Bock provides link-run possesions from CHB and then spot a target by foot into the forward lines.

His presence also allows McGregor to play in the forward lines, which this position acrually suits McGregors strengths. Being a strong mark and steady kick. Although not a long kick. Bock flows from CHB, while McGregor stutters from CHB when playing there (McGregor wants to pinpoint passes and often takes too long with his decision making - Bock just hits a target).

I believe Bock's weakness is reading the play. He sometimes gets caught out of position or allows the CHF to dictate the terms. This should improve with more games but he will never be a superstar IMHO.

That all said, I'm very happy he's playing for us - Go Bocky!

Good post, and welcome Tobster.

Covered it all really.

Very good player description ( for kenny and Bock )and welcome. If he can allude serious injury, do you think we have a 5-8 year CHB in Bocky??? I would be interested in your opinion of the following players Trent H, Mattner, Knights, Johncock and Hinge.

I think Nathan Bock has come a long way since last year. I see him as an important player to our side. He's put on more weight and his pace has improved. I enjoyed watching him break through defence and run down the centre corridor occasionaly, might have set up a goal or perhaps kicked one himself :p

He's sort of Peter Caven meets Ken McGregor with a lot of their strengths and a few of their weaknesses. Stronger than Caven but not as quick, and has more rebounding and instinctive play than Ken but not as steady.

A classic case of an ordinary player in 1 position who blooms when the coach finds the right spot to play him. I think that's been Craig's biggest success this year, finding out where to play individuals to get the most out of them. Bock, Rutten and Bassett are the classic examples. Mattner, Burton and Hentshell are getting close to finding their ideal position but not quite there yet.

Fine analysis Tobster.

12-24 months ago who'd have thought he'd be so valuable to our structure that his absence in a Qualifying Final would arguably cost us a Premiership?
