i feel like ive a pretty good starting side with changes to come.. feel free to give advice.

B: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, J Trengove, A Otten, M Watson (Toy, Cripps, Guthrie)

struggled for cash for a 4th ruckman, but i figure ive got the depth there with petrie and also trengove

Don't really see why you would start Trengove as a 5th back at any point in the season. Watson is a KPD and perhaps you could look at someone who may play half back and therefore give you more points as a cash cow. Someone like Heppell maybe? Even starting Toy in Round 2 could be an option. Other than than your other starting defenders are good choices.

Midfield looks a tad expensive. Would recommend downgrading a couple of those and starting a rookie or two there in order to free up cash to improve other areas of your team. A. Krakouer would also be a good option and does give MPP.

Rucks look weak for mine and thats where you can use some of the cash freed up in midfield to upgrade them.

Forwards, as previously said, looks very hit and miss.

Anyway, good luck this year in SC and hope this may help somewhat.

Don't play Judd though, as good as he is he's not a supercoacher. He doesn't get the ball enough to get consistent scores due to being prolific and he doesn't use it well enough to counter that with high efficiency. He's not really a goalkicker either. He'll get huge scores and lowish scores which you don't want from a MID.

His average last year was insane (driving his price up unusually high considering his history) but it was his best by a lot in the last 5 years. I'm quite confident he will decrease in value this year so he might present a quality downgrade option but not a starter.

At the 576, 700 you'll pay for him you're safer to go for other, cheaper options. IMO guys like Montagna, Bartel and Pendlebury present far more value at this stage.

Your team does look pretty solid for this early.. As for the whole too many starting rookies.. I'dpersonally probably look at downrading 1 of your premium midfielders and upgrading one of your rookie forwards.. I'm on the Zaharakis boat.. I think he's duefor a BIG season this year..!!

Your backline is of the biggest concern at this moment.. Toy, Cheney and Heppell all starting is a fair risk.. I'd be probably looking at upgrading AT LEAST 1 on them (most likely Cheney)..

Clarke in the ruck is an interesting pick.. He had a great season a few years back.. And the new interchnge rule cod really help his scores.. Watch him closely during the preseason to see how he's travelling before committing..

Like what you've done in your forward line with Hurley and Knights.. Both mid range players who could explode this season.. Most people will tell you to get rid of one of them.. But SC is all about taking that risk and hoping it pays off - so GO FOR IT..!!

Judd's not a SuperCoacher? Are you kidding me? He's normally around 560-570k. I reckon he's great value. Sure, he's had an interrupted pre-season, but he will still dominate. Not having him last year cost me a few wins I reckon.. I must be seeing things..

You're not serious are you? Judd is one of the best supercoach players going around. I'm a Cats supporter and there is absolutely no way Bartel is better value than Judd, you won't get consistently high scores with Bartel but you will with Judd

You're missing the point.

He has averaged the following during his time at Carlton;

Notice the odd one out?

Even last season he had four sub-100 scores in the last 10 rounds. That is not what you want from a 550000+ dollar premium and that's his best supercoach season while at Carlton by a mile. He'll get huge scores and he'll get poor scores which is fine for a premium forward or a ~ $500,000 mid but not someone pushing up towards 600,000. I'm not knocking him as a player, the guy's a champion and one of the best few in the competition. I'd love him at Collingwood and I'd have him in my Supercoach team but not at that price. I'll get him for less further into the season though and you'll waste money paying overs for him.

I could almost guarantee you he will finish next season cheaper than he starts it but get him in if you want. You're better off keeping 60000 + in the bank and getting someone like Bartel who is traditionally a more consistent scorer than Judd for similar (usually better) averages. He had a horrible last 9 rounds last season for a player who has been bulletproof for years and he is clearly underpriced. You don't want premiums who are almost guaranteed to go down in price and Judd is one.

I'm not saying Bartel will average more over the season but he is much better value for money.

They've virtually averaged the same over the last 4 years but the standard deviation in Bartel's scores is usually much lower.

2009 for instance. Judd averaged 2 points per game more than Bartel but over 22 Rounds had 9 scores under 100 and Bartel only 7

2008: Bartel averaged 3 or 4 more points. Bartel had 6 scores under 100 to Judd's 7.

2007: Bartel averaged 19 more. 4 scores under 100 to Judd's 5 from less games.


Yes in 2010 Judd averaged a lot higher than Bartel but it was clearly his best season in years and clearly Bartel's worst in years. There is not a $60,000 plus value gulf between the two, not close.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bartel goes down in price as usual. I just don't see Bartel getting the scores that you want when you need them.. I prefer a Cross or Marc Murphy.. I get how you say you can get Judd cheaper later (like 95% of premiums) but I expect him to kick off with some big scores and the fact the Blues are almost "supposedly " at the premiership window surely he has to come into calculations early on. Each to their own I guess.. personally If Judd is in I still have over 100k to use elsewhere..

Very very good structure! 14 definite keepers. Quailty rookies, although like most on here...am concerned with Jacobs glandular fever, might be worth sticking in someone else and making jacobs an downgrade target a few weeks into the season.
Might also want to think about utilising your mmp's a little more as well.
You have a lot of Def/Mids and Fwd/mids but no one in the mids to take advantage of it.

Here is my first crack a team for the year.
I am going for a league win thats worth a bit of cash and glory for me so thats the way i've set up.
-No judd because he misses prelim final, however gone with gibbs as he is a stand out in the Def
-No ablett as 5 of the first 9rds he gives me nothing in league matches
-Starting with Goodes and Mumford as Sydney have both byes on multi team bye rds(no league matches played)

Love Hodge but geez, I could have a crack at Brad Sewell.. very cheap.. Rucks? exactly the 4 as mine at the mo..Both have to check Petrie's fitness during the NAB.. Fwds?? I like it, very aggressive with a touch of rookieness. Keep an eye on Didak, still not 100% I believe.. also track smith and see if he features prominently.

Probably move Gibbs to the backline and swap with Hurn, grab a cheaper Mid then (cash permitting) upgrade a rookie in the backline to a undervalue player like a N Krakouer or somone..

Judd is as must. I had Bartel in 2009 and he scored very poorly and while i like him as a footballer i would not be picking him for SC although i think with Ablett gone he will score higher this year.

If we had more than 10 million to play with i would pick Bartell but only after Ablett and Judd had been secured

Are you referring to Jack? If so, then fair enough.

Nick on the other hand is an exception to what your saying because his work rate means he's always going to get plenty of the ball.

Jacobs has glandular fever so you may need to change him. Could be a good trade option mid season.

I think this is a pretty well rounded squad to be honest, I'll just give some thoughts that I have so you get a second opinion:

- Bock is an interesting choice, I haven't seen him in too many squads, interesting to see what type of role he'll play..
- Personally, I'm not sold on Fraser as second ruckman, there are alternatives with better upside I feel.
- Hayes & Goodes are surely in the DT Hall of Fame, however the reason I've stayed away from them is their age - But to be honest I'm not going to be surprised if I end up regretting not picking them come the end of the season. (*Note - I understand Goodes' DPP appeal)
- Starting Hale, A Krak and Day in the forwards may need a bit of tweaking.
