Don't go counting your chickens just yet mate, if Bucks realizes he can't achieve premiership glory without resorting to rash actions I wouldn't put anything past him. He might not be as truly deluded and full of himself as Hird but he has that same ultra ultra competitive streak that will prevent him from accepting failure. He's exactly the kind of bloke who would resort to desperate measures if he thought it'd give him an edge.

Not saying Bucks is about to make the same mistake Hird did (I have more respect for Nafan than that) but its going to take him a fair bit of willpower to keep himself in check especially at press conferences & such if the Pies don't return to flag contention fast. Nafan does not strike me as a particularly patient man.


As for the other two, well Vossy was a shit coach from the start and was lucky to last as long as he did, I don't think his demise was ego driven more like gross incompetence related. Hird as we know has become the Christopher Skase of coaching and of course it was always about James and what was best for James' coaching career so yeah no argument there.

Bucks knew we weren't in a position for a flag this year

He chose not to play Jolly last week. He made the hard choice. He gave a kid the chance to see what it was like, over Bucks own desire for success.

That's good coaching, period. Grundy isn't Mick's doing, it was Buck's faith that brought him in early and kept him in when he made it. He made more than a few of those calls this year with an eye on the future. Compare that to Voss in his first 2 years, and it's a universe apart.

I like where we are going. It might be a step or two back in the short term... but where we end up is all that matters
