Firstly I have total faith in the club in what they are doing with the young blokes & their development, but when you see the players close up (senoir players or youngsters), from our club or others, you realise that there is VERY few players who are built like the proverbial brick shithouse, so my question is why is it considered so hard for the young blokes to get amongst the action early in their career?

Of course there are some exceptions, but generally all the players are skinny athletic types so there is really no differance playing for Melb or Casey, except of course for speed of the game & ability to play... If our young blokes are rated so highly they SHOULD be thrown in to show their wares....

I'm not saying fill our side with untried youngsters to our detriment, but a blend of the above could bring out the best in them, together with adding extra enthusiasum to the older blokes....

Have a loot at the size of Rich's body when he started at Brisbane and compare it to Scully and Trengove. Rich had already been playing regular senior footy so its not really comparable, he showed in the NAB cup that there was no point in letting him play in the reserves because he wouldn't learn anything new at that level and he already had the body to play inside mid against anyone from round 1, it was only his fitness that he was lacking. The media said how he was the most ready-made player and he proved he was and I haven't seen in the media how your top 2 picks are ready-made players and will slot into a team in round 1.

Just seems like from what your coach and president have said that they would rather be patient with the players till they're 100% ready then chuck them in the deep end and I just doubt both will play round 1 but we will see in a few months time.
Trengove might not have played the number of senior games as Rich. But he's been best on ground in a SANFL prelim final, and acquitted himself very well in a final. He's ready to go from round 1. His body is solid enough and there are no worries on his fitness. Half forward or half back should be perfect.

Scully runs a better 3km time trial than probably all of our players. And he isn't afraid to throw his body in. He should be perfect running up and down a wing.

As our coach and president have said we should be patient and not expect immediate superstars, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be in round 1. The reason I expect this is because in the last 2 years we've had Cale Morton debut in round 1 (who was built like a stick) and Jamie Bennell and Nev Jetta debut in round 1. We should (touch wood) have a fitter and better side come round 1 this year, but I'm still expecting Trengove and Scully in.

I am not expecting to much from this kid in the first 2-3 years, as he matures into his body.

Yeah, he looks like he'll have a fair lot of physical development ahead, from what I can see.

If Cale "The Stick" Morton can play 40 out a possible 44 games, then others like Scully and Trengove should be right to play seniors too.

It depends on what role we're having them play though. Morton was played as an outside mid on the wings and was given plenty of space to work with.

If we want Scully in and under all the time then it may be best to ease him into it

Agree.
However I think we should always have one of McDonald/Bruce/green in the forward line, midfield and backline at all times.

I think the midfield is pretty right for experienced players leading the way with Moloney, Davey, hell even Jones has been around long enough to lead by example.

It's the forwardline and backline as stated that could use the guidence of our senior blokes. The time for us to be relying on Green and Bruce and Junior are gone (Although I still think a fully fit Green is our most consistant and best player)

Let Bruce play in defence; you only need to look at the job he does on Brad Johnson year in year out to know he can play there. Green forward will automatically add 30-50 goals for the year depending on how long he spends there.

Green forward also takes a bit of pressure off one of Jurrah or Watts in dragging a better defender away from them. I'd love for Green to end his career in the way Brad Johnson has at the Dogs, or Darren Jarmen snagging 6 in a Grand Final. That'd be sweet.
