I hear a Macedon person has been named new umpires boss

Brian Collins ??

Yes he is the man appointed to take over from Gilesey. Apparently umpired a number of grand finals. Hopefully a new face can get the best out of our umpires and possibly entice a couple of extras to take it up or move to the RDFL. with Broadford in that is an extra 3 games per week.

Fundraiser at W.C.C

As most would know, last years coach and one of our best performed players over many seasons Adam Johnstone sustained a serious knee injury during the football season. It has come to the clubs attention that Adam has endured a number of out of pocket expenses in his operation and rehabilitation. To help Adam out we are going to conduct a fundraiser on Saturday night 13th of December at the club. The finer details are yet to be organised but there will be a dinner or BBQ, drinks at bar prices and a raffle or two. All profits on the night will go to Adam.

Be there and help the club support Johno.

ANYONE WELCOME!!!!

hey dose anyone know the starting date for the 2009 season??

Any more news on recruits from all clubs, getting a lil bit slow on here, got to do something, otherwise we will have to actully do some proper work which would be a shame.

Also was chatting to someone who was saying that had broadford not been accepted in 09, that there was a good chance that the club was going to fold, was that true??

Having said that i was thinking (this may have been organised already) that the 3 clubs from that area - wallan, kilmore and broady, should all play there there braody games on a sunday, it would generate more people though the gate and help the clubs with some extra cash over the bar!

After speaking to a kilmore player he was saying that the biggest game was when they played wallan, people were everywhere at both games.

I just thought that we dont want this club to not be competeitive, we are a family orientated leauge so i just threw it up.

Im sure if it was broady v wallan on a sunday, alot of the kilmore players, coaches n supporters would go to, and vice versa for th other teams.

Its a success with romsey-lancefield, it dosent have to be every year, maybe just this year to help get the community involved an enbrace the leauge.

This is the proposed start date and round 1 games
Round 1 18/4/2009

Woodend v Rockbank
Riddell v Diggers Rest
Broadford v Romsey
Macedon v Lancefeild
Kilmore v Wallan
Melton Centrals v Sunbury

Things could be thrown around a bit with round 2 being ANZAC day on saturday, some games may need to be played on sunday, i believe the league may still be waiting on approval to play

if the league had any common sence you would just start a week earlier, on April 11 and have Anzac weekend off.

common sense doesn't come into it. who would play easter weekend?
I think it was looked at starting on the 4th but some grounds may not be available then. I think you will find that are looking at all avenues, possibly a couple of games on the sunday.

Another big loss for the RDFL KA with Woodends Joel Goodyear also being lured down to Sunbury (lions). Massive result !

How many players is that now to be making the move to Sunbury.
AFL Vic brought in a rule last year stating that no club cannot recruit more than 5 players from one club. Does that mean only 5 from Riddell.
Maybe AFL Vic will need to look at capping one club taking the cream of a league.:D

Hopefully the league clubs can recruit well to cover the loss's other wise our interleague side may not be the strongest.

Sunbury could have up to 10 ex RDFL players in their round 1 line up. Goodyear has the choice of Gis or Sun but wanted success in 09 and ended up with the Lions.

What do u mean, Massive Result?? Goodyear is overrated no where near as good as his brother was. Very high opinion of himself though so he should fit in with the ex riddell boys

Good bloke and not a bad player Joel but i wouldnt expect him to play senior footy at Sunbury, but if you can get the coin (even in the 2's) why not have a crack.

The 2009 Fixture has been posted on RDFL website.
If you haven't seen it yet check it out.
What are peoples opinions of who may have the hardest draw and the easiest?

http://www.rdfl.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=262&Itemid=85

According to last years final ladder and after some quick and rough calculations I believe the Kangaroos have the easiest draw, whilst Diggers Rest have the hardest.

The Kangaroos only have to play 2 sides in the top 6 twice, whilst they play 4 of the bottom 5 sides twice.

Diggers Rest on the other hand have to play every side in the top 6 twice and only 2 of the bottom 5 sides twice.

This is a pretty big difference considering both teams finished 9-7 in 08.

**Note I left Broadford out of the equation as they're an unknown quantity at this stage.

How is the draw done? completely random? or does it depend on where you finish?

I believe it to be random, some clubs have strong rivalry with each other so they may request to play each other twice.
