brent purcell should be a handy pick up for riddell

What sort of player is Purcell?

Just having my first look at ther website for clearances and thers a few big ones!

Sammy young, dan sipthorpe and jose probly the biggest departures from out league. good to see ruane back for diggers.
Also sutherland for kangas leaving? looks like the cats lost a few beall a huge one - also pante, taylor and delmastro.
Goodyear leaving woodsy and johnstone which we new before new years. but i think youll see woodsy add a few on that list pretty soon
A few other important ones. Not sure ona few names in the new addtions to the league.

No sign of all them players who are meant to leave riddell on the clearances yet.

What do u think the loss of jose young sippy and a few others wil do to rdfls interleague game? probably 3 of the best 5 or so on ballers there

Massive losses for the interleague game, Jose, Young, Climas, Robbo all walk up starts for the game, now MIA... Going to give the interleague a few headaches. But we do have plenty of talent within the league to cover them.

Purcell won a league B&F playing CHB for Pacco I believe, but has had injury problems the last couple of years, will be a very good player and an excellent pick up for the bombers along with Xavier Codd and of course Cam McCabe.

Just had a quick look at the clearances pal, geez you blokes have lost a few. What are your chances of filling in the gaps & what do you think of your prospects for this season ?

Blade not playing at Sunbury.

Doona,
Just read the article in the Macedon Ranges Telegraph, what load of bollocks!
If I didn't know better, after reading this, one would probably have nightmares before a match with Broadford.

Nice things are printed about you though...so I assume the author is your cousin!

For those who haven't read it, here it is:

No real need for it in my opinion. I've witnessed about a dozen Broadford games in the last couple of years and never seen anything that would define the Roos as "thugs". I could name a few worse clubs in the RDFL, that's for sure.

I understand Broadford have already formally spoken to the manager of the Leader publication and the RDFL have given them a blast. :thumbsu:

EDIT: If you can't read the text, right click pic and click save as and save it to your computer. You can zoom in once you open it.

Appreciate the support fella's :thumbsu: Bit of a shame. Although not generated by the club, this was our first real media appearance in the RDFL heartland so to speak and to have that old picture painted certainly did us no favours. Public perception is important to me and to have that swayed or influenced by some in a position to do so (the sports journo) is very disappointing to say the least. All we can hope is no damage has been done, and that the 11 RDFL senior organisations wait until we meet before casting judgement on us.

The good thing about the RDFL Doona is that I think the clubs are pretty welcoming and everyone gets along.. Your club is one of us now and I am pretty sure that every club as a whole will be nothing but supportive and looking forward to meeting you guys for the first time.. Even just from our praccy match that our club had with your guys we enjoyed the night and can see that your club will fit in well... Cant wait to catch up for a beer after we knock you guys off :p

Yeah, a couple have left, understandable really, there is alot of cash flying about out there... Sutherland and Spud are definitely losses for us, Matty McCubbin leaving is a shame, he has a future.. But most of the others are guys that haven't played for a couple of seasons.. You were at training though mate, think we have the numbers covered.. Your boy looked good on Friday night too.. ;)
Some improvement from the younger guys stepping up and some improved fitness from some will see us up there and competitive again... :thumbsu:

Not sure why Blade would sign at Sunbury before Christmas and then start training at Macedon? If his decison to quit Sunbury and play else where a call to the coach would have been the right thing to do instead of him finding out through players talking.

Shame about what people are saying about Broadford. I went to Game last year and never saw anything that doesnt happen in RDFL. New club in league and the Leader are trying to start stuff that not needed.

Not so sure its the Macedon fc that he will be playing with KA.

Don’t worry Doon,no one reads the Fiction that is passed off as accurate Journalism in that multi-ply, super absorbent disgrace of a Newspaper called the “Telegraph” ! In fact the term Newspaper when referring to it, is really just a massive oxymoron in itself. The Rag is nothing more than a Realestate Weekly at best. And when one of their gophers does actually turn their hand to an informative article piece, you will find it so often riddled with either - hidden agendas, propaganda, self interest or unfathomable “SPIN” !
And if you want a prime example of this look no further than the negative tripe our friend Mr Brent Diamond spews forth under the pretext of Sports Journalism.

What I’de suggest you & all the other Broardford faithful do Doona is, if you are unfortunate enough to have this “Local Gospel” pass your way, is do what I & many others have found as useful & worthwhile purposes for this Turgid Tabloid. & that is - as a weed mat in the garden,or as a bird cage liner, or lay it under the kitty litter to soak up the cats urine, or for picking up the dogs excrement whilst on those long daily road walks……. There is a multitude of uses for it only limited by your imagination.

But if you really want accurate & balanced Local News & Sports reporting, then stick to the Leader or The Free Press mate, more facts, less opinion & spin.

Hi all, first time poster - long time reader. Reading all this tripe about BFNC, though I'd put some more 'positive' articles about the club up.

This is from tomorrow's North Central Review

Blue skies ahead for Roos
By Liam McAleer

BROADFORD Football Club’s pre-season preparations are going to plan according to senior coach Chris Nolan.
“Training has been excellent thus far. Numbers on track have been positive meaning our depth should hopefully return to a level similar to 2007 when we contested finals in all three grades,” Nolan said.
Broadford is seemingly an unknown quantity returning to the Riddell District Football League, with it difficult to predict where the Roos stand and if they are genuine finals contenders.
“Every club aspires to play finals football, but in fairness to last year’s list we’re coming from a fair way back,” said Nolan.
“Some RDFL people who’s opinions I value thought we were around the fifth or sixth mark in comparison but we’ll just have to wait and see as I’ve heard most clubs have strengthened.”
With clearances beginning to filter through, the Roos have announced the signing of four key additions.
Former Yea and Apollo Bay player Tom Butterworth joins Broadford along with 2008 Longwood coach and former Broadford coach Matt Finch.
Seymour premiership player Brett Spargo will return as will key position player Brent Littlewood who played last season with West Meadows in the Essendon District Football League.
Former Carlton key-position player Laurence Angwin and former Heathcote and Kilcunda Bass player Shane Cunningham have been training with the Roos but are yet to commit.
The only departure so far is onballer Dan Freeman who is relocating to Melbourne to study.
Roos land major sponsor

Off-field the Roos are gaining momentum with the club announcing betting agency Sportsbet as their 2009 major sponsor.
Broadford Football Netball Club president Scott McDougall was thankful of the local supporters who were involved in the securing the high profile sponsor, and said that the club was looking forward to what he hopes may become a long term relationship.
Newly elected junior vice president David Green is heading the sponsorship drive and urges any person or business interested in getting involved with the club to contact him on 0439 506 776.
Season launch
Broadford’s season launch will take a different form this season, with a sausage sizzle to kick off the club’s membership drive on Saturday March 14th.
“We thought in light of all that’s happened to perhaps spend a morning on High Street where we can talk with the locals and continue to promote the move to the RDFL,” McDougall said.
“We hope the RDFL move, new alternate strip and reduction in travel is appealing and can result in a lot of former members, along with those new to the town getting on-board and enjoying what should be an exciting season.”
The club – both football and netball branches – have scheduled practice games against Thornton on March 28 and Avenel on April 4. Both games will be played away with the Harley Hammond Reserve undergoing resurfacing once the cricket season concludes.
A sponsor’s function will be held on April 18th (round 1) when the Roos host Romsey with a second sponsor’s function held on round 18 when Broadford play Lancefield.
Netballers on song
Broadford’s successful netball program has been the envy of rival Heathcote District Football League clubs in recent times.
Club officials are hopeful the league change combined with experienced gained from past success will ensure all sides are highly competitive in the RDFL.
Ebony Heers has taken over as club coach (A-grade), with Suzy Boulton (B-grade) and Kylee Scott (C-grade) vital members of the coaching squad.
Strong numbers have attended training sessions so far on Tuesday nights at the Broadford courts.
18’s going solo
The Broadford under 18s will be training alone on Monday evenings from 6pm under the watchful eye of Coach Daniel Cleary.
The move is set to help the young players settle into the club.

More than happy to post any related articles here as i know some of you don't have access to The Review ot The Free Press.

Cheers Liam

On behalf of the Broadford FNC president (Scott McDougall) we just want to thank all you lads on here for your support over the past week, and to Scott at the RDFL for also flying the flag for us over that incorrect interpretation of how we function as a club function.

Below is an email the club received today from the journalist repsonsible, and here's hoping we can all move on and save judgement until meeting and getting to know us some more :thumbsu:

To Scott, Chris, and the Broadford Football Club,

I apologise for the article in the Telegraph (17/2/09).

The article wasn't meant to cause any distress or be of a negative nature towards the football club and the league.

The purpose of the article - although I was unsuccessful in doing so - was to reflect on how far the football club had come as well as introducing it to the league.

But on reflection, I understand that I went the wrong way in doing so.

I pride my writing on giving both sides of the story and failed in doing so in this story.

I would appreciate if the footy club and the league can help the Telegraph write a positive article on the club entering the RDFL; its goals and expectations for season 2009 and beyond and for really what the club stands for.

I would also like to organise a photo opportunity for the team to represent the club.

Once again I apologise for the article and would appreciate if we could move on with a much more positive one in the near future.

Thanks,

Brent Diamond

I think the word you're looking for, and long-time BF posters will know what I mean, is "drivel".

Apologies to HFF for stealing his thunder.
