2010 RDFL GRAND FINAL PLAYER PROFILE.

Riddell -

[27] Brayden Allen - Athletic superstar, that can do all. Has all the atributes to play AFL (like his younger brother did) & will be unstoppable as always.

[14] Jason Allen [c] - Captain courageous, that leads from the front & lets his action onfield do the talking for him. Will be the architect for much of Riddells grunt across the halfback line.

[6] Mick Allen - Classy, hard at it, no nonsense forward that makes the
most of every opportunity. WILL kick goals, its just a question of how many.

[9] Nicholas Ash - Hugely under rated defender, that has had an
absolutely stella season. Will give plenty of drive off the full back line & is always dangerous when running of the forwards.

[37] Mathew Baird - Has slotted in down forward as if he was born there. Provides another potent avenue to goals & can take a wonderful grab. One to watch for the high light reel.

[7] Dean Besanko - Evergreen veteran that has earned his shot at another Premiership with determination & hard work. Smart & experienced player, that does all the 1%ers with second nature. Just a great team man.

[33] Aaron Blade - Laughing all the way to the bank since making his much heralded return to the Bomber fold. Will stick it up those ignorant detractors of his, with another valuable & solid perfomance in another Grand Final.

[4] Cameron Casson - Elusive, hard at it running utility type player that gathers plenty of the ball. Can be very damaging when streaming forward. Is able to hurt the opposition by kicking goals also.

[2] Xavier Codd - Another hard at it utility, that can play anywhere. Goes about his business with a minimum of fuss & can bob up & be damaging with a goal or two when the opportunity arises.

[77] Ricky Elliott - Fast, elusive half forward/winger type that has the ability to find space. Good overhead one grab mark & is able to kick the ball long into forward line or through the big sticks for the odd major.

[51] Darcy Grant - Incredibly fast half forward that is a very good mark for his size. Courageous & tenacious ball player that works very hard to keep the pill in Riddells forward half. Can make an impact on the score board as well.

[18] Gerard Liddell - Hard working little man with a huge heart & a big engine. Will be instrumental for Riddell in the mid field & at the stoppages. Will get heaps of the ball & rarely turns it over. A real show to take out Grand Final Medal.

[12] Cameron McCabe - Another versatile quality mid fielder type player that puts his head over the ball & isn’t afraid to run through the lines. Expect to see a lot of damaging run & carry footy from McCabe as he streams forward.

[35] Murray McDougall - Dour no nonsense defender that compliments & fits in beautifully down back. Runs hard & is able to perform a stopping role or go into the mid field if the situation presents.

[3] Grant Puxley - Out & out young champion of the future. Has it all, strong mark, great long kick, courageous, uses the ball well, & has a cool head in the heat of battle that belies his youth. Watch for him to make a significant contribution in the match.

[43] Glen Robertson - A big game lifter in previous Grand Final appearances. Tenacious tall that gives his all & doesn’t take a backwards step. Will make a valued contribution what ever role he plays on Grand Final day.

[19] Haydn Ross - Young gun wingman that is absolutely flying this season. Finds space at will & links up perfectly in Riddells forays forward. Will get plenty of posessions & also is a goal kicker given half a chance.

[44] Matt Sammut - Another quality mid field option that finds plenty of the ball. Works hard, runs all day & provides theb Bombers with plenty of drive from the centre & from the stoppages. Can kick the odd goal as well.

[17] Ben Sonogan - Another under rated young gun that has had an injury interrupted season. Plays tall, takes a lovely one grab mark & is a raking long kick. Is very good below his knees & is not intimidated by the big occasion. Lancefield oval should suit Ben right down to ground & I expect a break out performance from him come game day.

[53] Trevor Towers - Impact utility type whos endeavour cannot be questioned. Will be battling hard. Can play in the mid field or forward & has the capacity to hurt the opposition if given any latitude.

exact score 12.8 (80) to 9.9 (63)

Liddell BOG. atmosphere lacking unfortunately - twos game the crowd got far more into it.

Congratulations to both macedon sides and riddell on their wins today.
Your spot on tp the atmosphere today in the ones game was absolutely shocking, it was non exisistant for any time riddell scored and barely a wimper for any time diggers scored, easily one of the worst grand finals i've been to for that reason.
The two's and 18's had much more crowd participation, perhaps riddell people have become use to winning so many that its just like another home and away game for them now.
Diggers diggers diggers you had the best form in the lead up to the biggest game of the year and you certainly left it all behind today, whilst the scoe board flatters you a little with the final score (easy soft goals in junk time) riddell never looked in any danger of losing control or the lead of the game at any time over the 4 qtrs.
Another wasted opportunity by you diggers rest in a grand final and you should be seriously dissapointed with what you bought to the table today, when once again you had all the momentum and good form leading up to today.
Lets hope some one else can step up to the plate nxt yr and we have have that buzzing feeling around the ground as it should be in a granny because today it was dead

Well done to Demon and the Riddell Football club on another great season.

3 goals - but like the Saints last night Riddell was never worried and switched the game off and allowed some junk time goals.

Congratulations to both macedon sides and riddell on their wins today.

Thank god for Big Footy and the guys texting me scores today. 8pm Grand Final Day (night) and no scores on the official RDFL site . . . . .

RDFL, please try and provide a service to the fans.........!!!!!

Well, another season gone, and despite agreeing with everyone RE: Atmosphere, the day overall was a great day of football for the supporters at the ground.

The Under 18 contest was always going to be one of the clashes of the day and it certainly started off that way. Both sides threw everything they had at the contest. The Blues tried hard, but overall, the Cats had far too much class. Josh Clough and Dan Markworth were just a class above as was Lachlan Plowman and Riley Kindred, both have long futures ahead of them. Finally, how Mark Strickland never got a crack at senior football in 2010 is beyond me, such a talented young footballer. Well done to the Cats on a fantastic victory and congrats to coach Steve Turner, an ex Kangaroos teammate and a quality guy.. Not too sure about his choice of runner though :p

BOG Medal: Lachlan Plowman (Macedon)

The Reserves contest was a beauty too, early stages it looked as though the Bombers had the Cats measure, physically they were too strong and the Cats didn't seem to be able to handle the physical nature of the game that the Bombers were trying to put on. But the game changed half way through the 2nd term as the Cats running players started to find space and make the Bombers chase. Through the middle of the ground, Matty Goodwin, Sean Phillips and Stuart O'Connor started to get on top, while the Cats had a clear standout in Hamish Miles.
The second half saw the Cats slowly get on top. Al Meldrum started to take some crucial contested marks, while "Wee man" Matty Johnstone seemed to be getting involved everywhere. The Cats well and truly had the momentum going into 3 quarter time. The Bombers played their last hand by pushing Mick Sammut forward with immediate effect, the opening goal of the last term giving the Bombers some hope. But the Cats were not going to be denied in 2010. They toughed out the final quarter and drew away for the first Reserve premiership in the clubs history.

BOG Medal: Hamish Miles (Macedon)

The senior game kicked off in surprisingly low key fashion, the crowd was subdued and many at the ground wouldn't have known that the major GF was being played. Within the opening minutes the Bombers had the first major on the board after a terrific chase down tackle and 50m penalty to Matthew Baird. The early stages were a lesson to Diggers Rest of exactly how they didn't want the game to go. The game was wide open and free flowing, a style that was well and truly suited to the Bombers. An interesting match up between Bevan Green and Mick Allen looked like it might have backfired when Allen easily outpointed Green for a mark and another goal to the Bombers. During the middle stages the Burra started to close down a little, turning the game back to the pace and style that suited them. Marchewka looked dangerous early on, he was well on top of Brayden Allen and took 3 beautiful contested marks before finding some space inside forward 50 for the Burra's first goal. When the Burra kicked their 2nd of the quarter, the game opened up once again, the Bombers took total control of the remainder of the term and when Grant Puxley goaled from a 50m penalty late in the term, the Bombers had a commanding 28 point lead at the quarter time break.
Best Players 1st Qtr
Riddell: Matt Sammut, Gerard Liddell, Cam McCabe
Diggers Rest: Shane Marchewka, Stuart Clarke, Craig Marshall
After an early goal from Mick Allen gave Riddell an even greater margin, the Burra worked themselves back into the game. The momentum switched and finally the Burra had control of the game and the pace it was played. Jeff Heritage, Stuart Clarke and Craig Marshall were on top through the midfield, while Marchewka continued to look dangerous up forward and Poynton was dominating around the ground. Matt Sammut continued to rack up possession for the Bombers, while the Heritage and James Climas contest around the middle of the ground was fantastic to watch. The Burra certainly had the game back on their terms heading into the half time break, but they needed more from some of their key players. Cole Laurie, Steve Ruane and Daniel McCabe had little influence on the contest despite McCabe goaling during the quarter. Bevan Green had Mick Allen on a leash, while Baird had gone down with an injury. The Burra were on top but were just unable to fully capitilize.
Best Players 2nd Qtr
Riddell: Matt Sammut, Jason Allen, Nick Ash
Diggers Rest: Stuart Clarke, Jeff Heritage, Daniel Poynton
The half time break was enough to ensure that the crowd would start to lift and the Burra came out much the same way as they had finished the 2nd term. The game was played predominantly between the two 50m arch early. But it was the Burra who seemed to be doing most of the attacking, unfortunately, every time they looked to go forward, Jason Allen seemed to be chopping the ball off. Marshall and Heritage were again in everything, while Poynton continued to get plenty of the ball around the ground. When Shaun Sims found himself in plenty of space inside forward 50 running into an open goal, the Burra looked their moment directly in the face. But unfortunately he sprayed his kick to be chopped off again by Jason Allen. This is where Riddell have made their move in the past and where they would do it again, when an opposition fails to capitilze on their "moment", the Bombers were able to make that moment their own. From that point on the Bombers switched into gear. Matt Sammut continued to rack up possession while Liddell became more and more dangerous all over the ground. Brayden Allen wrestled back control in the ruck and the run and carry from the half back line of Nick Ash and Xavier Codd gave the Bombers forwards too many opportunities, they piled on 5 straight goals to blow the margin out to just under 7 goals when Rick Elliot snapped truly and the Bombers had once again capitilized on a failed "moment" from their opposition to blast them out of the contest.
Best players for 3rd Qtr
Riddell: Jason Allen, Gerard Liddell, Xavier Codd
Diggers Rest: Daniel Poynton, Jeff Heritage, Bevan Green
The last quarter was an arm wrestle early and for the first time in the day, the arm wrestle was suited to Riddell. They ensured that enough time was taken from the clock to ensure that the result was beyond doubt. The crowd hoped for a late Diggers Rest surge, and while it did come, with goals to Sims, Gleeson and Spiteri, it was never going to be enough, when it looked like we were going to see some vintage Cole Laurie, his shot sprayed wide, the game was done and dusted and another premiership to the Bombers.. Who were clearly the best side all year, a big congratulations to Matthew Power and all the Riddell side.
Best Players for 4th Qtr
Riddell: Gerard Liddell, Xavier Codd, Jason Allen
Diggers Rest: Shaun Sims, Brad Sluggett, Jeff Heritage.

Final Score

Riddell 6.1 - 8.1 - 12.4 - 12.8 (80) Diggers Rest 2.3 - 5.4 - 5.5 - 9.9 (63)

Riddell best: Liddell, B. Allen, Ash, Casson, Codd, Climas
Riddell goals: Elliott 2, Baird 2, Sonogan 2, McCabe 2, N. Allen 2, Puxley, B. Allen
Diggers Rest best: Poynton, Green, Heritage, Marshall, Sims, Ryan Diggers Rest goals: Marshall 2, Marchewka 2, Spiteri, Kight, McCabe, Gleeson, Sims
BOG Medal winner: Gerard Liddell (Riddell)

My Votes:
3 - Matt Sammut (Riddell), While he wasn't as flashy as Liddell, he was prolific with his ability to win the ball all over the ground. Not only did he win it but used it more efficiently that anyone else.
2 - Gerard Liddell (Riddell) - Definitely stood out on the day with flashy wins from stoppages and a couple of big marks, along with his "Joel Selwood" style of winning free kicks, had a brilliant day.
1 - Jeff Heritage (Diggers Rest) - Was in the game all day for the Burra and along with Stu Clarke was their standout.

Best Players IMO
Riddell: Sammut, Liddell, J.Allen, Ash, Whittle, Casson
Diggers Rest: Heritage, Clarke, Poynton, Green, Kight, Marshall.

kilmore applications are still open dont think anyone has been offered anything

The word on the street is that the players are all pushing for jacobs to coach kilmore. There is a lot of coaching vacancies in the RDFL at present. Broadford, Romsey, Lancefield, Wallan, Kilmore, Melton, Macedon, Woodend:eek:
