Well, after being undeafeted all year, Riddel choke in the Grand Final and lose to Macedon by about 2 goals I think it was.

Hmm, Dont know which game you were watching....?

Riddell senior side won easily, Melton Centrals won the 2's by a goal and Riddell Under 18's won by 50....

3 Pretty good games though

yeah i think commerford did a knee, so i think that may be why he has gone a little quiet of late.

Cummo did do a knee earlier in the year, he came back just before finals in the Seniors but struggled, played 2's in the first final, then missed the week after, played seniors in the prelim, and although not fully fit, he looked ok, was dropped from both Seniors and Reserves on the Weekend, not too happy, and nor should he be.... Can you tell me that he wouldn't be fit enough to sit in a pocket or come off the bench in at least the 2's?

Diggers Rest coach Glenn Hopkins last night won the coach of the year award for the Western Region and has now been nominated for the state award. He won coach of the year for the RDFL a couple of weeks back.

Well done to him, the boys did well this year, had a great year, Kane Shaw is a perfect example of the influence the Glenn has on his players, he was fit and playing pretty good footy.
Did you go to the Granny?

Xie or myself can both tell you that the U18's will not be sticking together for the future. I agree with your comments, cause if we stuck together, we would be quiet a decent team. But a lot of us will unfortunately be leaving Rockbank next year.

And Sunbkan.. Jason Welfare won our B&F (U18's) with Henners coming in as runner-up.

Not a bad player Welfare... So where you boys heading if not staying at Rockbank?? Are you all up to Seniors now, or still Under 18's?

Re: Players You Find It Tough Against

What players do we find it hard to play against? Being from Rockbank seniors, we find it hard against everyone.

I have played with Rockbank all my life, enjoy it throughly. Although we lose each week, I find it very enjoyable.

Some of the toughest players to shut down in the comp from my view... Not necessarily the best, just the most difficult.

Riddell - James, M.Allen, Peatling.
Romsey - Connellan, Strack,
Diggers - Heritage, B.Green, Grey
Lancefield - S.Choate, Harrison, S.Clark
Centrals - Battye, Newton
Kilmore - Rowe, Robertson, Ahern
Kangaroos - Niki, L.McInerney, M.McInerney, Donovan
Woodend - Hegarty, Barker
Macedon - Conversano
Rockbank - Saxon, Shirley (If he is played in the right position)

Yeah I did go to the granny.Riddell were the best team all year and probably deserved to win it although they probably are not as tight knit as some of the other clubs.

People might look at the fact that Diggers finished third and ask how he could go so well in those awards but he took over a team that was basically gutted pre season and had probably 25 guys under the age of 23 play senior footy.Woodend went through a similar thing.I was told Diggers lost something like 13 of there best 22 from the previous year so to win 13 straight at one stage is quite remarkable.Be interesting to see if Hopkins will stay and finish the job or look elsewhere as I am sure he will have offers flooding in.

I saw Kane Shaw kick 6 in a quarter on the full back of the year but then he got injured and I didn't see him play again until late in the year. They probably need him to come to continue improving because the one thing that the other top 3 sides had over them was KP forwards.

You obviously follow the league closely. Are you associated with any team in particular?

Yeah, Diggers probably did lack the key forward from other sides, injuries and suspension and unavailability also didnt help them come finals time either.
The loss of Jose for the season and injuries to probably the best key forward in Grey really cost them in the second 2 finals.
But with a full side, it would have been tough for them to beat Riddell, Jamesy was flying, Mick Allen dominated again, they were a great team all over the ground.

Any talk of any movements around the comp yet??? Heard that Lee James was moving to Greenvale, anyone heard of anyone else moving anywhere? Interesting to see if Diggers can hold on to all the guys they picked up this year. As well as whether Romsey can hold on to Meldrum and Morgan, both almost left this year.

Not that I have heard, have heard a rumour that Col Gadsden is going back to the WRFL to Strathmore I think, but apart from that, not really sure.. Most sides should keep the coaches they have, maybe Smitty at Rockbank?? He could be the only other that may give it away, from talking to him. Believe Terry Ahern has already been reappointed at Kilmore, as far as I know he is the only reappointment at the moment.

Strathmore is wrong then isn't it... Cant remember which side it was but pretty sure it was WRFL, from where he lives, wanted to be closer to home.. Dont think he is going to coach though.

and what about Jeremy Jose?

Jeremy is a great player, could be matched up on though and not the first pick to stop in the Diggers team.

Do you think Rockbank Seniors would be a good coaching job to go for ?

It would be a good job depending on the type of coach you are... I think there is some really good young kids coming through the Under 18's at the moment but the junior sides are struggling, Rockbank is the ideal club to start something similar to what the Kangaroos started this year. A 3-5 year plan, you couldn't walk in expecting finals but then again you couldn't walk in and not improve on this year's effort. A couple of years ago Rockbank were very successful, but it cost them a few dollars to do it. No passion for the club. Dont get me wrong, the people at the club had and have a heap of passion for the club, but guys like Smitty, Kenny and Graham Smith can not be expected to keep giving for what they get in return. To go for the job you will need commitment from the younger guys as well as the guys that are going through the tough times, guys like Rob Shirley and Saxon Woodroffe for example have to stay to build them.
It is only then that you will be able to build them from the ground up. Instead of remaining stagnent, it is time to actually build. If you are up for that type of challenge and the challenge of being a teacher and a mentor to the younger kids then yeah, it would be a good job to go for.

Diggers really only picked up Laurie and Heritage and they were not the classic "going for more money" signings. They have a very close group of mates down there that they went to play with so I couldn't see them leaving. They may get a few of the players who left the year before back.Talking guys like Hedges,Saliba,Marshall all of who were in there best 6 or so players.

Wouldn't surprise to see Riddells squad fall apart now as they have quite a few imports in there side but they do have some good 18s to come in.

Woodend will be a riser next season. They have some good kids and if they add a couple of good signings they will be right in contention.

Gadsden has apparently stated that he does not want to coach any more and will go back to the WRFL. Came from Parkside (and brought Peatling with him), logically he may want to go back to Parkside. Watched Parkside get done on the Saturday, in a very ordinary game, mainly because of weather, and with the number of big guys Parkside have, based on what I saw of Gadsden on the Sunday, he would struggle to be in their top 21.

Riddell's Under 18's are all bottom age. Not sure if they will be around to top them up. Think they may keep most of the side together.

Woodend always have a competitive side, they are a young side now and will be interesting in any additions they may get.

From what I hear, Kilmore has started recruiting and have some big names coming back to the club for next year.
Romsey players have attracted some interest from other competitions.
Like to see if Laurie and Heritage stay, as well as Diggers keeping Grey, Ruane, Sims, Jose etc.

Welfs is a tuff nutt. Goes in hard all the time. Though his disposal is shocken. Always kicks it too high. Can't pin-point a target. But a good player.

Most of us are up to seniors yes, nearly all of us bar 4/5. I'd say quiet a few of the 18's won't play on. For the few us that will play on. We want to stick together, though we haven't decided on where we will play yet.

Yeah, I heard its not Parkside that he wants to go back to... It was another side, may have been Sunshine come to think of it.

Not to stop you or anything, but why would you not wait to see who coaches the seniors and give them an opportunity before leaving? Maybe start pre-season and see how it goes. There may actually be an opportunity for you guys to build something there at Rockbank, you guys could possibly be the beginning of the future for the Rockbank FC...
